Hello Everyone, The DNA project is exciting! I wish I could participate (no male relative). The list is so active now, I'm hoping someone can help me. My cousin Roy Bingham has done fantastic work researching our Bingham/Reeves line. What I have here is information he discovered. Unfortunately, I've never been able to add much new information to what he found, even though I've tried for years. Can anyone help? I have two direct REEVES ancestors. I can only guess that they are related somehow. First is my 4th Great Grandmother, Sarah REEVES, b. June 18, 1796 in Milledgeville, McNairy Co., TN and d. November 13, 1855, buried in Hardin Co., TN. She was the wife of Charles SPENCER (1791-1856). They married in Hickman, Co., TN. They lived in Hickman and McNairy Co., TN. No information on her parents - only guesses. The second is my 6th Great Grandmother Winifred REEVES, b.? (late 1700s I guess?). She married Alexander BINGHAM, (b. abt. 1777), February 02, 1797 in Davidson Co., TN. In 1799, they were apparently in Sumner Co., TN. No parent information on Winifred either, whose name on marriage record is spelled, "Winefred REEVS." Bondsmen were Alexander BINGHAM and John BOSLEY. The REEVEs, BINGHAMs, and SPENCERs were related families. The SPENCERs were from Burke Co., NC (1700s). Some have related to me that family lore is that Winifred and Sarah were sisters and somehow related to Charolotte REEVES, dau. of George REEVES and Mary JORDAN. I am told that George was b. abt. 1714 in Brunswick, VA and died in Davidson Co., TN. Another bit of family lore is that Winifred and Sarah's father's was named George REEVES and that the women had a brother, George REEVES, Jr. I've never been able to prove any of this. Notably, these are the same folks who swore that my Aunt Ruth BINGHAM died in the Great Chicago fire (she was b. in 1902) and that she had a brother who was also, quite oddly, named "Ruth." Brother and sister, Ruth and Ruth. How odd, they would say. Turned out his name was "Rufe." He-he. There is usually a grain of truth in the family lore :) Other REEVE in family: Cousin John William SPENCER, b. 1869 married Mattie REEVES, b. 1872. No info on her either. ANY hints or tips appreciated! Thanks in advance! Shelley -- Shelley Janiczek Woodson
Hi Shelley -- I would suggest that you contact Donia McDonald about your Sarah. [email protected] I believe that Sarah is the daughter of George Reeves and Mary O'Barr. Donia is a descendant of George and Mary's daughter, Dorinda. I also believe that Charles Spencer is the son of Samuel Spencer. George Reeves and Samuel Spencer were close friends and neighbors in Hickman Co. TN in the early 1800's. They both served as Justices of the Peace in Hickman in 1811. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shelley Janiczek Woodson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2005 6:44 AM Subject: [REEVES] Winifred REEVES and Sarah REEVES, 1700s, TN > Hello Everyone, > > The DNA project is exciting!
