I am still searching for any information on my third Great Grandfather below; JAMES REEVES. I would be VERY grateful for any new information. I've been working on him now for thirty years, and have not been able to connect him to anyone's line yet. Thank you so much, Kathy Wilburne San Dimas, CA [email protected] [email protected] Generation No. 1 1. JAMES1 REEVES was born Abt. 1765, possibly near Greenville, S.C.. He met NANCY GOODWIN before 1800, and they moved in Christian & Trigg County, KY at that time. Nancy was the daughter of JESSE GOODWIN and unknown first wife. (Jesse GOODWIN was married twice: second wife was Susannah HOWARD. Children by the first wife: John and Nancy GOODWIN). Nancy was born Bef. 1775, possibly in S. C, and died bef. July 10, 1841 (as proven by her father's will, dated 1841). The GOODWINs appear in Pendleton County, and Old 96, S.C., but move into Trigg County, KY before 1800. James and Nancy Reeves moved from there, into Gallatin, and Saline Co's in Illinois about 1814-1816, then moved into Obion, TN after 1830. Nancy appears on lists for Primitive Baptist congregations in both Illinois and TN. According to family story, James Reeves moved to Fort Smith, ARK with family after about 1850. He disappears at that point. It is unknown where either he, or Nancy Goodwin Reeves are buried. He is half Cherokee according to family Dawes depositions taken in 1896, but the application was rejected by the courts. The ten children listed below for James and Nancy, are verified in the will of Jesse Goodwin, dated 1841 (Nancy is deceased) and proved in 1848.
