Hello, I am searching for a connection to my great grandfather, Thomas "Tom" Jefferson Reeves, born in Georgia June 15, 1825. He married Mary Buckner (born 7/29/1826 in Jones Co., GA.), daughter of Wiley (1779-1866) and Judith Tapley Buckner (1782-1855) who eventually settled in Talbot County, Georgia. Thomas Jefferson Reeves died 7/18/1875 and is buried in the Buckner Cemetery near Junction City, Georgia in Talbot County. Mary Buckner Reeves died after 1900 and is buried adjacent to Thomas in the Buckner Cemetery. They had five children: 1. John Leonard Reeves, born ca. 1852, listed on the 1860 census of Talbot County. I can find no further information on John. 2. Elizabeth "Bettie" Reeves, born 4/5/1855 in Talbot Co., GA. She married Charles Melvin 11/15/1883 in Taylor County. Elizabeth died 9/20/1949 in Milledgeville, GA., Baldwin County, and was buried in the Juliette Cemetery in Jones County. We do not know where Charles Melvin is buried. 3. Wiley B. Reeves, born 4/22/1858. Married Martha "Mattie" Byers in Buena Vista, Marion County, GA. Wiley died ca. 1917 in Houston County, Texas and is buried in the Salem Cemetery near Weldon, Texas. Mattie Byers Reeves (1856 - 1935) is buried in the Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Hilliard, Florida. 4. Martha Dranny Reeves, was born 11/30/1860. She married Samuel J. Byers 11/22/1877 in Taylor County, GA. Martha died 11/20/1897 and is buried in the Buckner Cemetery, Talbot Co., GA. near Junction City. Samuel J. Byers (1858-1936) is buried adjacent to Martha in the Buckner Cemetery. 5. Edward "Ed" Lafayette Thomas Reeves, born 9/6/1863. Married (1st) Lou Lawrence ca. 1885/86. Lou passed away 3/4/1897 and is buried with an infant child in the Buckner Cemetery, Talbot County. Edward Reeves married (2nd) Linnie Vann 7/17/1898 in Taylor County. They came to Houston County, Texas. Edward died 3/6/1923 and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery located between Lovelady & Weldon in Houston County, Texas. Linnie Vann Reeves (3/15/1877 - 11/17/1962) is buried adjacent to Edward in the Antioch Cemetery. There is a marriage record in the Talbot County Marriage Records of a marriage between Thomas Jefferson Reaves/Reeves and Mary Ann Harral dated 2/15/1848. I do not know if this is my Thomas Jefferson Reeves and he was married to a Mary Harral prior to his marriage to Mary Buckner. I have never been able to find the marriage certificate between my Thomas Jefferson Reeves and Mary Buckner. I don't know if Mary Ann Harral's name was listed in error and it should have been Mary Ann Buckner. Mistakes did happen. Would love to hear from anyone who has information on T.J. Reeves of Talbot and Taylor County, GA. I would love to know who his parents were.
