    3. Barry, What a surprise yesterday when I got an email from Family Tree DNA and they let me know I was a 25/25 match with Johnie Reeves. I sent him an email immediately to introduce myself and some of my family history. I want to thank you for all the work you have done for the family at large. I know how much effort it takes to run and add all the changes to the web site. This is only the beginning, I am sure that your work will bring a lot of people together. The family history is fun to discover and makes you realize that someday, some distant relative in the future will be looking back at what we are doing today. Have a wonderful day and thanks again for all of your work on the Reeves project. Lee Reeves 18952 -----Original Message----- From: Barry Reeves [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, May 22, 2005 8:56 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [REEVES] Immigrant Ancestors All, I haven't seen much activity lately so I thought I would throw something out for discussion. One of the primary goals of the Reeves DNA project is to form groups based upon matches of the DNA test results. The test results along with the combined documentation of the participants of each group would then be used to make the best determination as to the most recent common ancestor. A possible next step would be to connect to the immigrant ancestor for each group assuming that the most recent common ancestor wasn't the immigrant ancestor. From there we would try to make the jump to England, Ireland or wherever the immigrant ancestor came from. As a point of reference, I did a search through my database in an attempt to identify any individuals with one of our surnames that appeared to be an immigrant to America. Here are a few names that I found. Edward REAVIS (b. 1680 England - d. 1751 North Carolina) married Hannah Alley. Arrived in America prior to 1713. Thomas REEVE (b. 1624 England - d. 1682 Long Island, New York) married Mary Purrier. Arrived in America prior to 1645. Walter REEVES (b. 1650 England - d. 1697 New Jersey) married Ann E. Howell. Arrived in America about 1680. William RYVES (b. 1636 England - d. 1695 Virginia) married Elizabeth (Unknown). Arrived in America about 1652. Does anyone know of any others? Does your research indicate that you descend from one of these individuals? More DNA test results are on the way. Let's keep the momentum going. 3. Lee, I understand your excitement. I am still excited about my own matches with Beulah McCain and Tommie Smith. I hope this encourages the other folks that have been undecided about joining the project to go ahead and get involved. I have updated the DNA website to reflect your match with Johnie and look forward to receiving his family line information so that it can be posted as well. Congratulations to both of you. 3. Barry, Beulah, et.al., I have spent the morning reading the material announcing and discussing the findings from my DNA sample submission. Pretty heddy stuff for me-- particularly considering the disappointing years I have spent in searching for another line having a firm connection to mine. Thanks to all of you involved in this DNA effort. Don't be confused by the two Lee REEVES addressed on this msg.. One is the address of my son, Perry Lee, who lives in Plano, TX, the other is that of Melvin Lee No.18952, who descends in a line upon which I had no previous reason to focus. The opportunity to delve into the junction of these branches should keep our researchers busy for a while. Here's a summary of my paternal line (and that of my son, "Lee"). It might assist in charting the Family Line for # 33958: Perry Lee REEVES b. Aug 3, 1949, Austin, Travis Co., TX Living Johnie Lee REEVES b. Aug 14, 1925, Austin, Travis Co., TX Living John Thomas REEVES b. Jul 4, 1903, Austin, Travis Co., TX d. Feb 6, 1925, Austin, Travis Co., TX Jason Albert REEVES b.
