Hello List, Several Reeves lists have this Austin Smith Reeves married to Abigail Wright with dates and children. It appears that child number 7 was George (no middle name that I have found), born 9 March 1794 in Mason County KY. George was my 2g-grandfather. He married Elizabeth Brown (Mt. Holly, NJ 18 Aug 1794, d. 18 Apr 1884, Valparaiso, IN) from a family active in the New Jersey militias during the Revolution. They had 8 children: Emaline (1824-1825), Austin Smith (yeah, another one: 1826-1886), George Haywood (1827-1877), Mary Elizabeth (1829-1834), Sarah Caroline (1831-?), John Brown (1833-1870), Mary Ellen (1835-1889), Arabella Therza (1838-prob 1913). I have improving links and documentation for the children, although have not as yet found any living descendents except for those coming through my great grandfather, Austin Smith Reeves. He married Catherine Celelia Childs and they had 10 children of their own plus adopting two of Catherine's nieces. Just for completeness, those children are John (1849-1911), Annie Childs (1851-1930), George Nathaniel (1853-1930, father of Melville A, who led a lurid career in Chicago as the 'Skyscraper Burglar' until he jumped bail in 1933), Mary Adelaide (1855-1927), Elizabeth Brown (1857-1937), Jeanette Fisk (1858-1859), Theodore Edward (1861-1868), Austin Albert (1862-1906), Katherine Childs (1864-1935), Samuel Fosdick (1866-1915). My current interests are: 1. Documentation for Samuel Fosdick Reeves' likely participation in the Alaska Gold Rush. 2. Additional living descendents of any of the above. 3. Documentation for the links backwards from George, that is, to HIS father (likely Austin Smith Reeves, 12 Nov 1757 - 1820 Mason County KY) and mother (Abigail Mason, 1 Aug 1755, VA - Aug 1817), married 1782. And to George's grandfather (likely Benjamin 1720/21 Northumberland VA) and grandmother (Sarah Wright, perhaps 1730 VA). This Reeves branch appears not to be connected to the many Reeves in the deep south; even the DNA test reveals many dissimilarities. But I appreciate the occasional nugget that comes my way and hope that all of you find your way through the brick wall to Diagon Alley (a Harry Potter reference for those whose children might have neglected an introduction to the hero). Bob Reeves, Los Angeles,
My reeves come out of VA to NC to Wayne Co. TN to Searcy/Vanburen Counties in Arkansas. Father Peter, son of Isaac Reeves and Margarey of Granville and later Wilkes Co, NC, married there, then moved west around 1810.. then moved with his kids about 1830. I suspect they were following the Indian relocations as land opened, although there is the traditional rumor he married into the Cherokee/Chickasaw (doesnt every family have at least one?).. The family was quite prolific in the new lands, marrying into the Baker and Grinder families who came west with them. Several of the clan were arrested as part of the "Peace Societies" (a.k.a. "the chain gang" or "yellow rag boys") who attempted to tell both sides to go away in "the late unpleasantness" of the 1860s) A fuller line is available at http://gen.texsteve.com His family was (pardon the crowding) Descendants of Peter Reeves 1 Peter Reeves 1780 - 1845 b: 1780 in Wilkes Co., NC d: Abt. 1845 in Searcy Co., AR. . +Sarah Redden aka: Sally 1785 - 1860 b: 1785 in VA d: Abt. 1860 in Searcy County, AR ... 2 Hiram Reeves 1802 - 1850 b: Abt. 1802 in Wilkes, NC d: Abt. 1850 in Perry Co., TN ....... +Morning Newton aka: Maurner Newton 1805 - 1860 b: 1805 in North Carolina d: Aft. 1860 in Searcy County, Arkansas ... 2 Redden Fain Reeves aka: Redding Reeves 1807 - 1878 b: 08 Feb 1807 in Wilkes Co.
