Paul, Have you ever heard of a Maretta (I'm not sure of the exact spelling) Reeves who was born ca. 1865 to 1870 in Georgia? I don't know anything about her parents or siblings. She married Rufus M. Griffin, born in North Carolina ca. 1865. I'm not sure who all their children were, but they had a daughter named Martha Jane who married Albert Douglas Crow and a son named Charles Warner Griffin. Maretta and Rufus moved to Arkansas, then maybe Texas and I think ended up in Beaumont, California. If you have any information, I'd greatly appreciate it. Maretta was my gggrandmother. Dianne, You were right on target with the spelling. Her full name was Maretta J. Reeves. A site which names her and Rufus Griffin, and gives the names of their children in the 1860 and later censuses, is at http://jhg60.tripod.com/Rufus.html. If you Google "Maretta J. Reeves" (include the quotes), you will come up with two more sites with info about her. Although I didn't try it, you might also go to www.rootsweb.com, click on "World Connect Project," and enter her name. You will probably find some family trees that have been submitted with her name in it. So far as I know, Maretta is not in my lineage, but I could be mistaken. Hi Paul, Thanks so much for the information! I had Maretta and Rufus' dates of birth wrong by 20 years--math is not my strength! I tried the web address you gave me and I feel like I've won the lottery! Every little bit of information that I gain makes me so happy. I'm pretty new to genealogy, but I'm learning. Everyone that I've "met" in my search of family has been so kind. I haven't tried the google search yet or checked out rootsweb, but I'll do that.
