Hi Tommie, Thanks for the information on Maretta Jane Reeves. Yes, I believe her name was sometimes spelled Marietta and from what my grandmother said, she was from Covington, Georgia--which is in Newton County. Gram said she was born in 1849, so she wasn't one of the two that you mentioned, but I bet they are relatives due to the same geographical area and the same name! Also, I believe that my Maretta Jane may have lived in Alabama--maybe a town named Wedowee after she married Rufus Marion Griffin. Even though the dates don't match, I think you've given me a little more information that could help me in my search. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to me.
