    3. Sue, In the scenario you describe, you are correct. The only way for you to participate at this time is by finding a male Reeves who descends through the most recent male Reeves ancestor that your Reeves female also descends from. Please don't get discouraged. Keep in mind that we are doing a Y-Chromosome test. The Y-Chromosome is only passed from father to son. Since we are all members of this list for the purpose of establishing and researching our REEVES ancestry, the Y-Chromosome test was the most logical place to start. We have discussed other types of DNA tests such as the mtDNA (Mitochondrial DNA) which is passed down through the female line. As a group, we may decide in the future that we want to pursue the female lines by starting a mtDNA test project. There would be no point in undertaking a mtDNA test project until we have established male Reeves lines to connect to. This is only possible by doing the Y-Chromosome test first. Here are a couple of links to pages on the FamilyTreeDNA site that give a more detailed explanation of the Y-Chromosome test versus the mtDNA test. http://www.familytreedna.com/description.html http://www.familytreedna.com/description.html#mtDNA Please understand that we don't want anyone to feel excluded from participating in our Reeves DNA project. We are just now taking our first step in using DNA to support our Reeves research. Once we have established clear Reeves family lines, we'll take a look at what the next step should be. When that time comes, it will be a group decision. Correct?
