Hi All I am sharing this information just recieved from someone else researching the Reeves line in North Carolina, Hi Hello Sue - You may have not seen Childs’ “Reliques of the Rives / Ryves”, but in case, I am copying some of pp. 703-704 which have the info shown: pg. 703 “4197 William Rieves [Rives?] made his will in Granville county, N. C., in 1751 naming wife Margaret and issue as follows" [among 11 others]: “4199. James Reeves [Rives] made his will about 1775 in Guilford Co. NC (formed in 1770 from Rowan and Orange Cos.) --- naming his wife Millicent and issue” ---------- pg. 704 “4223. George Reves [Rives?] purchased 200 acres of land in Orange Co., N.C. in 1760 which he deeded to James Howell on 2 May 1765 at which time he appeared a ‘George Reaves’ ” [no wife mentioned] --------------- “4224. William Reeves [Rives?] purchased 600 acres of land in the same county in 1761; and as ‘William Reaves’, 368 acres in 1764. On 2 May 1765 he deeded, as 'Williams Reaves', 200 acres in Orange Co., N. C., to ‘William Reaves’ “ ------------ “There is a power of attorney recorded in Madison county, Tenn., under date of 1842 from the heirs of John Rieves [Rives?], Jr., of Orange co., N. C., to Chesley Moore, described as son-in-law, and to John Andrews. described as “grandson” of John Rieves, Jr., to sue and recover from Christopher Barbie and John S. Robins, administrators of the estate of George Rieves such part of the estate as may be due the parties to the power of attorney. 4224a John Rieves, Jr., had issue: 4225. i. George, d.s.p. 4226. ii. Mary, m. Archibald Andrews 4227. iii. Tabitha, m. Thomas Kirk 4228. iv. Priscilla 4229. v. Martha 4230. vi. Delilah 4231. vii. Synia m. Chesley Moore "Included in the Federal census from North Carolina for 1790 are the following individuals - not elsewhere identified - who would appear to have belonged to the Rives family: ---- ; 4238. Hardy Rives, 4239. William Rives, 4240. Jonathan Rives, 4241. William Rives, Jr., of Wake county; 4242. John Rives, 4243. Rev. George Reeves, of orange county; --------" There are more Rives, etc., in other counties but these seemed to be those that may be of most interest to you. I hope this is of some help to you, perhaps with clues where to look elsewhere. Let me know if you do not have Childs book. I wonder if your aunt had access to a copy. Are you aware that the clerk of Chatham Co. has scanned all the deeds and grants for the county, which can be downloaded? I have downloaded most of the ones to or from Rives men. Good hunting.
