    3. All, I'm sorry if some of you are confused about all the references to FaceBook on the list. Hopefully, I can explain what's going on. A few days ago I sent an email to all the members of the Reeves Registry website. The purpose of the email was to get everyone more involved in our site and encourage them to become more active by posting a query on the forums as well as this Reeves list. I also asked each member to register on FaceBook and join a new group that I created there also called the Reeves Registry. In return for doing these things, I would give them a PDF copy of the book "Reliques of the Rives" published in 1929 and written by James Rives Childs. Many members have already done these things and received their copy of the book. If you are not familiar with FaceBook, it is one of the many "Social Networking" sites that have been created on the Internet in the last couple of years. It is similar in nature to MySpace, ClassMates, YouTube and other sites. The primary purpose for these sites is to create an environment where people from all over the world can network with other people with similar interests. Those interests can be Sports, Movies, Books, Famous People, Woodworking, Genealogy or thousands of other things. Once you register, you can join any group you want to and invite anyone else to be your "friend". Your "friends" can be family, friends, co-workers or people with a similar interest. It can be a great way to make friends and find other people that share a common interest. This is a good thing. I understand that some of you may have reservations about joining a site like FaceBook and I can understand that. There have been numerous stories in the news about people falling victim to identify theft and other crimes. You should always use caution when providing information about yourself on any website. Never give personal information about yourself or your family to anyone unless you know and trust them. The thing to keep in mind about the Internet is that it is an electronic version of the world. There are many good things on the Internet, but there are also the bad things as well. Just like in the "real" world. The best advise I could give is that if a particular website doesn't feel right to you, then stay away from it. As someone who has worked in the computer field for nearly 35 years and been on the Internet since it's early days, I feel very comfortable using FaceBook. I created the Reeves Registry group on FaceBook because of the features it has to offer. Each group has a photo album that is very easy to use. The group also has a built in message forum and a place for posting links to other websites. We already have over sixty photos that have been uploaded by the members. I think this will be just another tool that we can use to help with our family research. I believe it will complement both the Reeves Registry website and the Reeves mailing list. Everyone on the list is welcome to join if you want to. It's your choice. If you're interested in a copy of "Reliques of the Rives", the offer is still available. If you need help getting on FaceBook or have other questions about it, you can contact me at my email below. Thanks, Barry Reeves Email: barry_reeves@bellsouth.net
