All, I hope everyone in the U.S. had a GREAT July 4th. I just wanted to give you an update on our DNA project. We have received new results for John Reeves (87479) and he has matched with group 6. We also had one new person to join our group - James Revis (93346). I also wanted to make you aware of a significant change that I made to the groups. Based upon their close similarities, I have combined Groups 6, 10 and 11 into one group (Group 6). This is primarily based upon FTDNA identifying them as close matches (off by one or two markers). If you look at the differences within the first 25 markers, you will see that most are different only in the markers that normally mutate over time anyway. There are a couple of exceptions to this and I am looking at those closer. I realize that some of the people in that group have submitted family lines that at first glance don't appear to support what the DNA results show. However, there are several people in Group 6 that have not submitted their family line information at all yet. This makes it very difficult to see how the members may be related. I highly encourage those members that have not yet submitted your family line information to do so as soon as possible. I realize that by combining these groups, a few people may feel that the family line information they submitted may be in question if it doesn't seem to fit in with the others. This is not my intent at all and hopefully nobody will get upset if it may appear that their family line is out-of-sync with the rest. That doesn't mean your line is wrong. It just means that we may have some more work to do to understand why there are differences and what those differences could mean. I encourage everyone in Group 6 to take a close look at their information and compare it to the others in their group. You may be surprised at the new connections that it may suggest. Another change that I made is to identify markers 26 through 37 by highlighting them in grey. I did this primarily to visually separate them from the first 25 markers since that will be as far as most people will ever take their test. As always, I want to thank everyone for their support of the Reeves DNA Project. Although we have discovered many things so far, we still have a long way to go.
