To all in Group 6.- Hello Cousins?? I am Charles Mercer Reeves. We apparently have a high probability of connecting lines . And through the Henry Reeves lineage. Family tradition has us coming from the William Ryves line. I know very little about Henry Reeves b 1630 d 1710. Please provide me with any documentation you may have regarding your line and it's connection to Henry Reeves. My ggggrandfather is John D(Dourdan) Reeves b abt 1759 in Halifax Co NC d 1840 in Surry Co NC. Micajah Rawls in will dated 29th Jan 1778 in Halifax Co mentions his brothers John and Jesse Reves(probably half brothers). In his Rev War Pension testimony taking place in 1833 John D indicates that he was born in Halifax NC. He also testifies he enlisted and reenlisted twice in Halifax NC substituting for William? Brantley and Nathan Spees presumably of Halifax Co . He married about 1788 in Cumberland Co NC Sallie Locke Elwell. His first son Richard Elwell Reeves probably the line that Billy Fred Reeves descends from was born in Cumberland . He witnesses documents for his in-laws in Cumberland with his X. Billy Fred Reeves is also participating in the Reeves DNA project matching almost perfectly with me . John D further mentions in his testimony a Bible at home which has been lost. John D moved to Surry County from Cumberland abt 1792 buying a farm in 1804. A Polly Reeves witnessed a document for him in Surry Co. She does not show up in the family tree as Polly so possibly she could be a sister. I have found no other documentation of John D Reeves ancestry. However I am excited with the current developments in Reeves DNA project. We are having a Reeves gathering in Siloam, Surry Co, NC in the fall and I will recruit more DNA participants.
