    1. Re: [REEVES] Important FamilySearch News
    2. *FamilySearch Unveils Program to Increase Access to World's Genealogical Records* /Tidal Wave of Online Databases Will Result/ SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-FamilySearch announced today its Records Access program to increase public access to massive genealogy collections worldwide. For the first time ever, FamilySearch will provide free services to archives and other records custodians who wish to digitize, index, publish, and preserve their collections. The program expands FamiliySearch's previously announced decision to digitize and provide online access to over 2 million rolls of copyrighted microfilm preserved in the Granite Mountain Records Vault. A key component of the program allows FamilySearch and archives to team with genealogy websites to provide unprecedented access to microfilm in the vault. The combined results ensure a flood of new record indexes and images online at www.FamilySearch.org <http://www.FamilySearch.org> and affiliated websites. The plan combines the assets and experience of the Genealogical Society of Utah with the state-of-the-art technology resources of FamilySearch-all under the single brand name of FamilySearch. The Records Access program allows records custodians to publish their data online by themselves or with the assistance of FamilySearch or affiliate genealogical websites and historical societies. "Records custodians worldwide are experiencing growing pressure to provide access to their records online while maintaining control and ownership. At the same time, websites that provide digitizing and publishing services are struggling with the staggering costs," said Wayne Metcalfe, director of Records Services for FamilySearch. "The new Record Access program takes advantage of FamilySearch's resources and creates an economical and effective forum where record custodians and genealogical websites can work together to accomplish their respective objectives," added Metcalfe. Working with the records custodians, FamilySearch can leverage its extensive microfilm and growing digital image collection to create digital images for affiliate genealogical websites at a fraction of the cost. The affiliate genealogy organization will create indices of the digital images and then publish the images and the indices on its own website, the archive's website, or a jointly published site. A copy of the index will also be made available for free on the popular FamilySearch website, which will help drive traffic to record images on the custodians' or affiliates' sites. Full, free access to both the indices and images will be provided to family history centers, FamilySearch managed facilities, and the archives. If the record custodian seeks revenue to sustain operations, a small fee may be required to access images outside FamilySearch managed facilities or the archive. For archives and heritage societies, the new program benefits include: * Digitally capture, preserve, and publish records online * Increase access to records while maintaining control and ownership * Increase patronage and business viability * Over 100 years of archival and publishing experience For genealogy websites, the new program helps them: · Benefit from the knowledge and relationships of FamilySearch with the archival community worldwide · Significantly lower costs associated with acquiring, preserving, or providing access to data · Increase business viability and website traffic · Leverage an open platform that develops value-added services around FamilySearch, the world's largest repository of genealogical data. Under the program, FamilySearch will also provide tools and assistance to records custodians who want to publish parts of their collection using state-of-the-art digital cameras, software, and web-based applications. The archive can work with an affiliate, historical society, or FamilySearch to index the images or host a website for the records custodian. The index of the record collection will be available for free on FamilySearch, and the records custodian's site will provide access to the images for free or a fee depending on the needs of the archive and those assisting in the digitization. One example of the tools FamilySearch can provide is FamilySearch Indexing, a web-based application that engages tens of thousands of volunteers worldwide to create searchable indexes linked to the digital images created by FamilySearch. "Through mere word-of-mouth promotions, literally tens of thousands of volunteers are already joining this effort to index the world's records by registering at FamilySearchIndexing.org and donating a few minutes a week online to the effort. Over 100,000 volunteers are expected to enlist in the initiative by year end with the numbers increasing as more projects-particularly international projects-are added," said Paul Nauta, manager of Public Affairs for FamilySearch. FamilySearch will announce the first collaborative projects of its new Records Access program during the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Convention in Richmond, Virginia, the week of May 14, 2007. Many more project announcements are expected in the following months. Record custodians and archives that would like additional information regarding the FamilySearch Records Services can contact Wayne Metcalfe (metcalfewj@gensocietyofutah.org) and genealogy web service providers should contact Dave Harding (hardingdp@ldschurch.org). FamilySearch (historically known as the Genealogical Society of Utah) is a nonprofit organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. FamilySearch maintains the world's largest repository of genealogical resources accessed through FamilySearch.org, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and over 4,500 family history centers in 70 countries. 1. [REEVES] Reeves Roll-Call

    3. I have found this Roll-Call most helpful. Whoever started the following format showing the framework of their families, I've found most helpful. This has allowed me to enter these lines into my data base from the point they connect with our ancestors to the person existing today who is involved in the research. This is giving me contact with a specific individual if I am dealing with a question on that lineage. Thank you folk. Here is my list (you will note the last few generations have strayed from the REEVES surname via marriage) Edith Awynne (my wife) Nora Ellen Rountree (b. 1918) Cynthia Jane Reeves (1891 - 1973) Edman Bruin Reeves (1855 - 1905) John Reeves (b. ? - d. abt. 1879) Peter Reeves (b. abt. 1776 - abt. 1848) Isaac Reeves (1720 - 1808) William Reeves (abt. 1680 - 1751) William Ryves (1636 - 1695) Timothy Ryves (1588 - 1643) Richard Ryves (1547 - 1591) John Ryves (1514 - 1549) Robert Ryves (1490 - 1550/51) If any of you have opportunity to visit England, you must plan to include Blandford Forum in your "must visit" sites. We checked in at the local museum and they hunted down an old-timer who was able to share some interesting history on the Ryves and their property that still exists today. Joe Thurstenson

    3. Carole, I'm not sure if he was from Springfield, Illinois, but some of the articles I read indicated that his company may have been in Indiana or Ohio. Apparently, there were three Reeves' brothers who build automobiles and various steam-driven tractors in the early 1900's. They may have been the ones that also built the "Reeves" Tractor that Tommie mentioned in an earlier email. 2. Hi All! I am back after a few years away from researching. Just wanted to inform those of you who have my information in their files that my Father passed away 3 years ago. The information is as follows: Donald Lee Reeves, Died January 7, 2004, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. Interment: Emerald Hills Cemetery, Kennedale, Tarrant County, Texas. My Roll Call Cherie Lynn Reeves Trautwein (myself) Donald Lee Reeves Jesse James Reeves Charles Nelson Reeves Israel Hargett Reeves Austin Smith Reeves Benjamin Reeves Benjamin Reeves George Reeves John Rives Willliam Ryves Sr. Timothy Ryves Richard Ryves John Ryves Robert Ryves At the moment, I am researching branches of my Reeves line with Austin's two sons, Christopher Columbia Reeves and Daniel Hargett Reeves. Both served in the Civil War. Barry, While looking at the One World Tree on Ancestry.com, I found someone had submitted that Robert Ryves was married to a Joan Unk in 1514. She was born in 1490. It also stated that Robert's father was Robert Ryves born 1465 in France. Have you seen this? Does anyone know if it is accurate? 2. A roll call is asking everyone who is subscribed to the list to post their line and who they are working on now so others might be able to make a connection if enough information is posted. It is up to each individual to post how much they want to. You see some long posts and some with just a few names. It is a good way to get to know more about the different lines of the people who are subscribed to the list. I hope you will post and let everyone know who you are working on and maybe others can help. 3. Tommie, I'm not sure which "Reeves" the tractor was named for, but did you know that Dorset, England is the home of "The Great Dorset Steam Fair"? A quick Google search indicated that the Reeves Tractor was a steam tractor. On a similar note, there was a Milton O. Reeves who invented the "Reeves" OctoAuto in 1911. There is a picture of this unusual automobile on page one of Volume 3 Number 5 of the Reeves Registry published in Sep/Oct 1995. You can find it in the downloads section of the Reeves Registry website. To answer the "Roll Call", lately I have been working on the military records of my Great Grandfather Stephen Decatur Reeves (1843 - 1886). Stephen was a Corporal in Company "B" of the 47th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. 3. I have two Reeves families that I am researching. One is Asher Reeves who moved to Greene Co Ohio and the other is Elizabeth Reeves, born 1750 married George Westfall. She would be my direct line. I have never seen any proof that his wife was in fact, Elizabeth Reeves but have seen it online so am testing the theory. She is speculated to be the daughter of Peter Reeves. George Westfall died in Wood Co Va in 1797. Any info on Reeves in that area really appreciated. Vivian Markley
