    2. Don't forget every possible alternate spelling. We always knew my grandfather as John Garland and I suspected his name was really Joshua Garland but his WWI draft registration card is "Garlin Josaway." He could not read or write, so he didn't know it was spelled wrong (made is mark "X" next to "G.J.Reeves" on the sign-here line. 2. Hi ! Connie, In response to your posting of Ferry operators of Pomeroy, Just a tidbit about a Reeves Ferry operator in Burlington County, New Jersey who was an ancestor relative of the Reeves that came to Meigs County in 1803. John Reeves b. 1674, son of 1652 Walter Reeves of Burlington County, New Jersey was granted in 1704 "The right to keep a ferry from Burlington to Philadelphia." This was one of the most valuable franchises of that day. The grant was made by Governor Cornbury. If you know any Reeve/Reeves from this line, we someone else to take the DNA test. My brother did the DNA but so far no one else has matched. 3. All, Here are the latest updates to the Reeves DNA project. 1. Robert Franklin Reeves (66690) - has upgraded his test from 12 to 25 markers. He is a member of Group #10 and is an exact 25 marker match with Loren Reeves (21487) and a 23/25 match with William Paris Reeves, Jr (59203). 2. The test kit for John Burton Reeves (87479) has been received by FTDNA. Results should be available in several weeks. 1. [REEVES] Thomas Jefferson Reeves
    2. I can not get beyond my great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Reeves (1825-1875), born in Georgia, lived in Talbot and Taylor Counties. Married Mary Buckner. Mary Buckner ( born1826 & died after 1900) was the daughter of Wiley and Judith Buckner. They are all buried in the Buckner Cemetery near Junction City, GA. I have not found the marriage license between Thomas Jefferson Reeves and Mary Buckner but I have found a marriage license in Talbot County between Thomas Jefferson Reeves and a Mary Harrell/Harral dated 2/15/1848 in Talbot County. Thomas apparently was married before or Mary Buckner had been married before. I don't have the answer. There were five children born to Thomas J. Reeves: 1. John Reeves - ca. 1852 2. Elizabeth Reeves (Melvin) - 1855 - 1949 (buried Juliette, GA.) 3. Wiley B. Reeves (1858 - died ca. 1917) - buried Salem Cemetery, Houston Co., Texas. 4. Martha Dranny Reeves (Byers) - (1860 - 1897) buried Buckner Cemetery, Talbot Co., GA. 5. Edward Lafayette Thomas Reeves - (1863 - 1923) Married (1st) Lou Lawrence (a cousin). Lou is buried in the Buckner Cemetery, Talbot Co., GA. Edward married (2nd) Linnie Vann in Taylor County, GA. 7/17/1898. Edward and Linnie came to Houston County, Texas and are buried in the Antioch Cemetery near Lovelady, Texas. Edward and Linnie are my grandparents. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    2. It seems these are the Reeves that I have found in the Buncome, Madison County areas. This area was first Rowan then Surry then divided again. They are in land and court records. I have also found a reference to an Abner Reeves in the court records in Sumner Tenn A great many people left NC in the early 1800's for Tenn and Ky.
