All, I hope everyone in the U.S. had a GREAT July 4th. I just wanted to give you an update on our DNA project. We have received new results for John Reeves (87479) and he has matched with group 6. We also had one new person to join our group - James Revis (93346). I also wanted to make you aware of a significant change that I made to the groups. Based upon their close similarities, I have combined Groups 6, 10 and 11 into one group (Group 6). This is primarily based upon FTDNA identifying them as close matches (off by one or two markers). If you look at the differences within the first 25 markers, you will see that most are different only in the markers that normally mutate over time anyway. There are a couple of exceptions to this and I am looking at those closer. I realize that some of the people in that group have submitted family lines that at first glance don't appear to support what the DNA results show. However, there are several people in Group 6 that have not submitted their family line information at all yet. This makes it very difficult to see how the members may be related. I highly encourage those members that have not yet submitted your family line information to do so as soon as possible. I realize that by combining these groups, a few people may feel that the family line information they submitted may be in question if it doesn't seem to fit in with the others. This is not my intent at all and hopefully nobody will get upset if it may appear that their family line is out-of-sync with the rest. That doesn't mean your line is wrong. It just means that we may have some more work to do to understand why there are differences and what those differences could mean. I encourage everyone in Group 6 to take a close look at their information and compare it to the others in their group. You may be surprised at the new connections that it may suggest. Another change that I made is to identify markers 26 through 37 by highlighting them in grey. I did this primarily to visually separate them from the first 25 markers since that will be as far as most people will ever take their test. As always, I want to thank everyone for their support of the Reeves DNA Project. Although we have discovered many things so far, we still have a long way to go. I know all are having a wonderful time on the beautiful fourth of July. My thoughts went back as to how our ancestors lived and wondered how many were already in America at that time. I know my Reeves were. There are papers where James was in the Militia and also worked on guns and was paid for it by our military. A lot of them made bullets for the soldiers. Some of those records are available at different state archives. I Our ancestors sacrificed a great deal that was are enjoying today. Everyone that knows or thinks they have an ancestor in America at that time email and tell us about that person. Do you know something about him or her? Some I know sold horses to the army; some sold food to the Army. They didn't always fight on the front line. Let us hear from you. Sorry I sent that last one before I was able to reread it. Hit the wrong button. But it is done so can't change anything. The main thought was to be on the look out for the smallest clue as it might mean something later. I know there has been some activity with the DNA project. Several results have come in and we have a new participant. I know Barry will have things posted as soon as he can. Also this is the time to try to find someone in you family to participate in the DNA program when you are visiting family. You might see that long lost cousin or uncle that you practically forgot about. Good luck. I know there are a lot of people out there hoping and waiting to find a male relative that is a direct descendant. Don't forget to post items that you have found, it might help someone else. For the new subscribers let us hear from you and who you are researching so maybe someone can connect to your line. Happy searching.. I know this is the time that everyone wants to be outside enjoying their favorite activities. But don't forget your genealogy as you make your way to family home comings or taking part of your vacation to do a little research along the way. Take a tape recorder along when you visit the older generations and record things they tell you and you can sort it out at a later time. Because some of them can ramble but that is the fun of it as lots of hints can be picked up at that time. Example: All I knew about my father father was he die when my father was only 6 years. I knew the family had moved to Whitfield Co., GA from Atlanta and he died there. Some years later fter the sons were older and able to hold down jobs their mother moved them back to Atlanta. That about sums it up. But years later after my father was living with us and we were on vacation in a small town in GA, I remember we were having lunch in this small town on our way south he said, "My father grew up close to here". I finally remember that one little statment when I got a death certificate for a half-uncle. Hi, Still trying to find Reeves relatives descended from a line which originated in Ireland. William Reeves emigrated to USA in 1880, married to Elizabeth Daly, had seven children all born in Cook County, Chicago: William, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Ivy, Christopher, Thomas, and Ellen. Kathleen (b1901) married (Ed) Martin and had 6 children one of whom was Jane. Thomas married a woman called Lill. Ivy married Norm (?) Christopher married Mary and had 8 children. Ellen died about 1904. All of the above I have gleaned from a few family letters and some research on Ancestry. There are no other Reeves on this side (Ireland) to check any more facts from ... and living people seem much harder to track down than going back the generations ... so any suggestions, help, ideas gratefully appreciated. thanks, Sue Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
