Beulah, I would love to participate in the DNA testing, but I don't know any of my male Reeves cousins--if any exist. I can trace my line back to my great great great (I think that is the right number of greats) grandfather, Archibald T. Reeves/Reaves. According to the 1860 census of Rockdale, Randolph Co., AL, he was born in ca. 1816 in Georgia. Archibald may have been the son of Burgess Reeves/Reaves who was also living about 15 miles away in Randolph Co., AL in 1860. Do you know of anyone who has tested in this line? Thanks, Diane Blodgett --- Bgr520@aol.com wrote: > > > This is wonderful news. It proves that testing with > the DNA program can make > a big difference in finding your family. This is wonderful news. It proves that testing with the DNA program can make a big difference in finding your family. I hope we will have more working together as time goes by as we have more matches in our DNA project. I know we have the ability to achieve great results. Just remember the more Reeves that join our DNA program the more positive results we will have. So I am again asking everyone that has someone in their family that is a direct male descendant to consider joining our project. We are still in the position to help two Reeves with 50% of the 25 marker test. Hoping someday my group can make plans to meet in Guilford Co., NC. Wouldn't that be great. But the greatest thing would be if all our DNA participants could have a match with others in the program. I think it is true that none of us really knew about the others in our group before we had the DNA testing. I did know of Barry but not that we descended from the same family line. If any other group has been working and planning on meeting we would like to hear from you. Beulah In a message dated 9/17/2007 9:24:03 A.M. I subscribe to lists with the different spellings of Reeves and thought it might be helpful to post them to our list. It may or may not ring a bell for some of our subscribers. Most lists at the moment are quiet so not much coming through. If most subscribers subscribe to these lists I don't want to crowd anyone mail boxes. That is most interesting as my Reeves in group three was my first cousin and was willing to help me out. He was 93 when he died about 2 years. He only lived about two or three months after he sent in his DNA vial. I was so grateful he was willing to do this for me.. Good infoon one of our DNA donors Tommie. Hello out there. Anyone around? I know it has been hot and in some cases rainy and in other cases bad situations and I sincerely hope none of you are in the last category. School has started in most places and hopefully we can now get down to researching our ancestors and see if we can find more facts about them. Our DNA project is moving forward and am hopefully we will start making more matches. This is a good time for all of us to post something on our line to remind the others who we are researching or who is our brick wall. If we don't post occasionally no one will remember who you posted 6 months ago, especially after the summer slowdown. I am still hoping for more information on Joel Avery Reeves and his father Jeremiah. My proof is slim but I believe it is correct but would love to have more to go with it. All the facts I have seem to fit like a glove but the problem lies in the use of names. Jeremiah and the family evidently called Joel Avery just Avery but after he married and moved to Jasper Co. Quite a few people have said this wasn't unusual as there could have been someone in the area or kin that had the same name or one of the names and to avoid confusion he used both names. It is pretty well established from Jeremiah on back to William of Guilford Co., NC but have to work on William and find proof from him to his father....... I know everyone has some problems. His name is James Reeve (no "s") And yes I do know that the "s" comes and goes. My own great grandfather added and left off at will. Just for your info My Walter Sr & Jr, Micajah and Thomas were born in Burlington Co. Thomas died in Salem Co. We don't know for sure where Asa was born and died. He married in Salem Co, buried in Salem Co. Anthony W. Reeve was born and married in Salem Co, NJ. About 1852 he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife died and he married Martha Godley who became my great grandmother. They moved to MN then to Des Moines Co, IA. My grandfather was born there. About 1880 they moved to Buffalo Co, NE. Where Anthony had planned to Homestead but he died before he could do anything. His wife completed the homestead. She died in 1901. My Reeves were from Burlington County, NJ. descending from; 1652-Walter, 1686-William, 1703-William, 1730-Solomon, 1759-Richard, 1803-Joseph, 1842-Della Mariah (Reeves) Irwin. All but Joseph & Della M. were born in Burlington Co. NJ. - Joseph was born at Athens Co. Ohio and Della M. was born at Meigs Co. Ohio. The descendents moved on to Fremont County, Iowa in 1856. A couple of weeks ago a gentleman posted a message about his Reeves ancestors from Burlington County NJ. I have lost his address and would like to contact him. I would appreciate his response to this inquiry. Thank you. Chuck Reeves
Hi ! Sally, I also did the DNA test, but it was for my Chandler line. So far it has been zilch for finding a trace of my father's family. My brother did the DNA but so far no one has connected to this line. Hi ! Beulah, I am a two times removed descendant from what I consider the Northern Reeves lines. My line came from Burlington County, New Jersey in the mid 1650's to Fayette County, Pennsylvania in the late 1700's to Athens & Meigs County, Ohio in 1802 and to Fremont County, Iowa in 1852. My question is; Has any DNA test so far turned up a connection between the Northern & Southern Reeves families ? Reading your southern postings, I see a lot of similar given names.
