    2. Thanks to all that helped me out with the location of Cave Springs. I am just looking around trying to find a person that might be connected to Jeremiah Reeves family of Wilkes Co father of my Joel Avery. Hopefully If I can find a person willin to take the DNA test to see how close our lines show. I think most of us in our group descend from William of Guilford Co. but from different children. It would be nice to have at least two descendants that are closer to each other from each line. 1. [REEVES] Jeremiah Line.
    2. Tommie Smith
    3. Beulah, I could not agree with you more. Having several from each line as much as possible would help so much. It would allow some cross referencing and new sources to check. That is the reason I have tried to encorage new friends like Diane who responded to you. She is surrounded by female ancestors but I have been convinced that she her next male Reeves is Archibald T. That was her position too.If we can find some male descendants that would help a lot and I do think it is possible. Archibald would be a brother to Thompson who was the the ancestor of Robert Reeves of Oklahoma who donated his DNA and wound up in group #3. I feel strongly that Diane would find herself in group #3 as well. Both Archibald and Thompson ( Not mine) would be sons of Burgess Reeves b. 1794. It has been several years since I made some notes on this group in Floyd Co. and my purpose was different. My research was limited to Ancestry.com and some census records. This should not be cut in cement as my dad might say but what research I did although limited led me to believe the following is proably accurate. 1. Jeremiah Reeves who married Jane Brazile began the Jeremiahs as I know them. 2. Jeremiah and Jane had a son named Jeremiah Reeves b. 1772 in Halifax Co. N.C. 3, Jeremiah b. 1772 and Mary Echols had a son named Jeremiah B. b. March 9, 1809 in Pike Co. GA. He died in Jan. 1865. I do not know the location. He was however in Floyd Co. Ga. in 1860 He may have had more than one wife. The wife who was with in 1860 was named Hannah R.L. Reeves. She may have been his only one.I am not sure why I said that she might be second perhaps because she was younger. He is referred to as Jerry B. in the census. It is easy to find on census for Ancestry.com. and lists his children. I can't attach it to the Reeves list though. This was something good to think about. Tommie

    2. Seems I also type in Jeremiah when it should be James M. as on the death certificate. Corrected version is below. You know some days are just like this <BG> Jeremiah Reeves m to Jane Brazil had a son named Jeremiah Jr. In looking at his descendants ( listed below) he named a son James M. Louise Reeves gave the information ( probably a daughter of James) so that may be the reason James M. mother's name was not known. 3. Beulah, You may have found Cave Springs by now, but if you haven't here is some info. Cave Springs is in Floyd County just about 15 miles outside of Rome, GA. The town is five miles from the Alabama state line. It is a small community (less than 1000). The city has a nice historic summary at http://www.cityofcavespring.com/history.asp. There are some nice photographs of the old town at http://www.cavespringgeorgia.com/. I no longer live in Georgia, but I use to drive through Rome and near Cave Springs frequently when I lived in Huntsville, Alabama on my way to visit my parents in Roswell, GA. 2. At times trying to figure out the relationship between you and another person can be difficult. The following site explains things and has a charts giving you several ways to arrive at a decision as how you might be related to another person. _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin) I heard that 2nd cousins is the same thing as twice removed. It is just the way different people refer to the relationship. I hope this will give us an idea of how we might be related to someone else on the list or in the DNA program. 1. Re: [REEVES] 2007 DNA Gift Certificates
    2. It is a good time to post this notice again as we should take advantage of it. It isn't offered every year. The time limit is Dec 31. We have to have it ordered by that time or we lose it the money. The holidays are coming up and it is a excellent time to talk to your family about joining the DNA program. Maybe everyone would be able to chip in a few dollars to help pay for the test. 25 markers is good but 37 markers helps show how closely related you may be to others. You can't go wrong with either test. If you choose the 25 markers you can always upgrade to the 37 at a later time. Remember everyday they are finding out more about DNA. Remember your DNA is stored for 25 years if you need to upgrade during that time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In order to take advantage of this contact Barry as if you use a credit card it won't show the discount. So please go through Barry to take advantage of this offer. FTDNA is again offering Gift Certificates to 6 people, it is listed below. This is a wonderful opportunity for 6 people to join the Reeves DNA project. We have made excellent progress but we still need more to help make matches. 3. >From the Meriwether Vendicator" Asa Reeves from Wilkes County settled a plantation near Greenville. He was an energetic, sensible and substantial pioneer, and had a fine property at the time of his deceased in middle life. He belonged to the best class of citizenry, possessing the old time charcteristics of manhood - unimpeachable veracity, honesty and honor. He was one of the kind without envy or covetousness who would rather have a good neighbor than to own his land who had pleasure in the well-being of his fellows. He was a gentleman of firm convictions through liberal in his views and tolerant toward those who intelligently differed with him. Mr. Reeves attended diligently to his personal affairs and took interest in such matters as affected the public weal. He was loved and respected by his household and slaves and highly esteemed by his fellow-citizens. We believe he was not a churchman but moral and upright in his general deportment. He was an old line Whig favoring the preservation of the American nation and a strictly impartial and constitutional administration of government. Like most of the independent country patriots of his time he had no itching for official distinction. In early life Mr. Reeves was married to Miss Barnes a lady of attractive personal, bright intellect and parity of character. Mrs. Reeves was a sister to the Hon. William Barnes of Senoia, Coweta County. William Reeves resident of Alabama, Judge Thom. A. Reeves of Florida and Hon. Madison reeves of LaGrange, all deceased, were sons of Asa Reeves. His brother were the late HON TRYE REEVES - MY ANCESTOR-LEA) and William Reeves, of this county, and Abner Reeves of Mississippi, also deceased. Note from Lea: I believe Abner b ca 1775 and wife Sarah (Wright) are the parents of Tyre and Asa, but so far cannot definitely put this down as true. Can you help me? 3. Thank you so very much, Lea. This is most probably a first cousin to my Asa. My Asa's spouse was "Clarinda" "Clara" in all census reports and he died in Pickens, SC in 1881. Please keep your eye out for this Asa also. 3. Interesting. !!! My grandmother was also Ida Belle Reeves, b 1870 Scott Co Mo, daughter of Thomas N. Reeves and Mary Frances Chapman. She married Walter Berry Dillingham . However, I don't know of any connection to James T. Reeves who married Elizabeth Holtzhouser. Ida Belle did have a brother James who died age 2 in 1875. Dunklin Co is one county southwest of Scott Co and there were Reeves' there in that vicinity. I am also interested in those families. James T. Reeves married Elizabeth Holtzhouser. They had a daughter Ida Belle Reeves born in 1880. Ida Belle Reeves married James Hodges and that is where the family came from. What I'm interested in is James Reeves' parents. I found James and Elizabeth (Holtzhouser) Reeves living side by side with his brother and wife Samuel and Sarah Reeves in the 1870 census of Dunklin County, MO. Both Samuel and Sarah Reeves died sometime between 1870 and 1880 and their two youngest sons Henry and William Reeves are living with James and Elizabeth Reeves as nephews in the 1880 census of Dunklin County, MO.
