    1. [REEVES] Brewer Reeves Ancestry

    3. I am researching my Reeves ancestry; it's solid to Brewer Reeves, my GGGgrandfather. I am trying to prove/connect him to his ancestors. Below is what I have - it's from a hodge podge of info, nothing concrete. I'll be happy to provide amplifying info if you want it. Can/will you provide me info? Thanks in advance. 1. [REEVES] NJ Reeves
    2. Susan Cassidy
    3. I'm looking for info on Wiliam Reeves (1860-1902) born and died in NJ. He married Mary J. Cooper (1859-1916) and had two sons George Buckman Reeves and William Freeman Reeves. They are all buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Burlington, NJ. His parents may (or may not) have been Carles and Rebecca. Any info on either William or Mary would be greatly appreciated. 1. [REEVES] GA Death Certificates
    2. Georgia Death Certificates from 1919 through 1927. The collection also includes a number of certificates from 1914-1918, with the bulk dating from 1917 and 1918. This site also includes some pensions and other records I think. I am in hopes they will keep adding more documents to it in time. 3. The death certificates in Georgia's "Virtual Vault" have much more information than the transcriptions I've seen before. The names of the deceased's father and mother (maiden name) is particularly helpful. I picked up the maiden name of one of my great-grandmothers from my grandmother's certificate, who died in 1925. Do you know the ranges of dates for death certificates on file in the Georgia archives if one visits there? Also, do you know the first year they were issued? 2. Thanks for answering. I have no idea who this James M. Reeves but it caught my interest when it stated Jeremiah Reeves was his father. I was hoping someone on the list would could identify. Below is the site that I researching. The death certificates only cover a few years. I will have to try to find a true list of the descendants of the children in this family. There are other things that you can research on this site. _http://content.sos.state.ga.us/index.php_ (http://content.sos.state.ga.us/index.php) If you just type in Reeves you have quite a few and I found this one No. 382. It seems this James lived in Atlanta at the time of his death. He was buried in Cold Springs I know there are quite a few errors in the Reeves Review. Beulah If the info about James Milton Reeves being the son of Jeremiah Reeves, Jr. came from Reeves Review II, it is in error. 3. Dave, That's great. All you need to do is send me the following: 1. Your full name 2. your mailing address where you want the kit delivered 3. your phone number 4. the email address you want Family tree DNA to contact you with Please don't reply to this email with your personal information. Send it to my personal email address (you should already have that). Also you can go ahead and prepare your Reeves family line and send that along so it can be posted to the project website. 1. [REEVES] Reeves DNA Project - Gift Certificate
    2. Barry Reeves
    3. All, We have had one person to take advantage of the holiday gift certificate from Family Tree DNA so far. Douglas Reeves (107298) has signed up for the 37 marker Y-DNA test and made use of one of the $30 gift certificates. That means we only have one $30 for a 37 marker test and two $15 gift certificates for a 25 marker test remaining. Just keep in mind that if you are considering ordering the test and using one of these gift certificates, the order has to be be placed and paid for by Dec. 31, 2007. You should also be aware that because of how the test has to be placed in order to use the gift certificate, I have to place the order for you and the remaining balance after the gift certificate has been applied will be billed to you by invoice when the test kit arrives. This means the process will be slowed down by the postal service. My best guess is that the order must be placed by December 15th in order to assure that the gift certificate credit will be applied. I just don't want someone that is planning to take the test wait until the last week in December and be disappointed when the gift certificates have expired before their order can be completed. I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. Barry Reeves

    1. Re: [REEVES] Men named James M. Reeves
    2. Paul Reeves
    3. Tommie, Thanks for the message. I have also found others named James or J.M. Reeves, but none whose name is shown as "James Milton Reeves," and the JMR linked to Jeremiah in RRII is definitely in error, as it shows my g-gf's family, whose father was William b.1794. Incidentally, I recently found an interesting document in Georgia's "Virtual Vault" for a "J.M. Reaves." It was a recommendation for discharge due to a medical problem. I have no way of knowing whether it was my guy or not, although my g-grandfather was in the cavalry, and the nature of the problem would have made sitting on a horse a painful affair! I'm trying to find the names of the signers in a roster of my ggf's unit to see if it's the same one. <http://content.sos.state.ga.us/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/confed&CISOPTR=609&REC=1> I agree that the DNA marker test would be helpful - I just haven't been able to convince myself I would find out enough to justify the cost, even after a $30 gift certificate. I'll put it on my Christmas list, as that's the time other people buy us what we want that we are reluctant to buy for ourselves! I have found several documents which prove that William Reeves b.1794 is the father of my g-gf James Milton Reeves b.1824. I also know my lineage leads to JMR because I have my gf's family bible that has JMR in it, plus my father took me to JMR's family cemetery when I was a child. I have also documented that Wiley(Wylie) Reeves b.1769 (subject of Ray Rowland's book) is the father of William b.1794. I haven't been able to document Wiley's father, however, so what I have beyond that point is conjecture based on someone else's work. I found that the son of my g-gf who went to the Cave Springs School for the Deaf was John T. Reeves, born 1850, so he wasn't the guy named James Reeves that Beulah mentioned. It was nice hearing from you. I know you are as careful and thorough a researcher as I try to be, and I value anything you have to say. 3. Another scrap on information I have on James Milton Reeves' family may have some relevance to this discussion. One of JMR's male children was born deaf and was eventually sent to a school for the deaf located at Cave Springs, GA. I have his name buried somewhere in my files, but it would take some searching to find it. I wonder if this could be the James Reeves who died in Cave Springs in 1920? Can someone point me to an online source that has his death certificate? I've wondered whatever happened to this child. 3. If the info about James Milton Reeves being the son of Jeremiah Reeves, Jr. came from Reeves Review II, it is in error. 2. Tommie Smith
    3. Hi Paul, It is good to hear your viewpoint. I had a great grandfather named James Marion Reeves b. 1823 in Gwinnett Co. Ga. to Thompson and Cinderella Reeves. Thompson had a brother Lofton who had a son James M. Reeves b. 1824-1826 nearby. I have never know the middle name for this one. Besides these there were a number of males in the same time period who were named names that come out with the J.M Reeves initials. I have learned this by trying to find the Cival War muster roll for my James Marion. I have had no luck because I do not know where he signed up. I personally remember my father saying that James Marion " got on a train" to leave for the Cival War Service. I know the date when he left home but not where he sighned up.But this is not today's discussion. I just can verify there are numbers of men named J.M. Reeves who were born in the 1823-1830 period. The father of your James Milton would likely be in the age range for my Thompson. I have long felt that if either of our J.M.'s parents could be found the other might learn something about theirs. If you ever see a window where you would choose to run your DNA it might open some doors for you. My line is in the # 3 group under Stephen Gregory Reeves my direct line male. You might just look it over. My best to you. Tommie

    1. Re: [REEVES] Jeremiah Descendants
    2. I have read the same articles but believe that is in error. That is what first was believed years ago. Now I think the majority feel Jeremiah is a son of James who is the son of William Rives of Guilford Co., NC. Jeremiah was b in NC and I don't know if James (father of jeremiah) was living in Chowan district at that time. They could have moved or it was later divided into different counties, Guilford Co.,NC was one of them. Orange Co is also close in that area and I believe James did live there at some point and time. Don't quote me on this as I would have to go back and look for my info to be sure. James left Wilkes Co., GA and went to Jasper Co., and then on to several areas in GA opening churches. John Reeves also preached some but was never as well known as the other. Malachi was also well known. My ancestor Joel Avery was not listed as a preacher. The book gives a long paragraph of Rev. James Reeves , who married lst Miss Sarah McElroy and then 2nd to Nancy (Harper) Phillips, dau of John Nairn & Elizabeth Mickelborough Harper. It also gives a long paragraph page 248, 249, 250 about Jeremiah Reeves, Jr. (second son of Jeremiah who married Jane Brazile ), but there is no information about the John Reeves. Jeremiah Jr. married Mary Echols in the year 1794. There is a asterisk on the name A.E. Reeves, as his son. I do not have the book I mentioned, but several pages zeroxed from the book . 3. Beulah I believe that the James you are talking about here is the one who first married Sarah McElroy and then Nancy (Harper) Phillips, although I have his death date as April 6th, 1858 in the seventy-fourth year of his age (History of Georgia Baptist page 319,320,321,322)The Nancy Harper Phillips is the sister to my gg grandfather William A. Reeves (living at 78 Josephine, Atlanta, GA ) that named his father as Jeremiah Reeves. Mother's name was marked unknown. Jeremiah Reeves m to Jane Brazil had a son named Jeremiah Jr. In looking at his descendants ( listed below) he named a son Jeremiah M. Louise Reeves gave the information ( probably a daughter of James) so that may be the reason Jeremiah M. mother's name was not known. She was listed as living at 127 Alexander, I assume this was in Atlanta, GA. Can anyone connect to this family???? I sure hope so as so many of my father family settled in or around Atlanta, GA. Please get in touch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > QUERY Sent: Sunday, November 18, 2007 5:36 pm Several of us would be interested in the younger Archibald Reeves. Is he a descendant of Archibald T. Reeves? If you don't mind to share we would be interested Tommie Reeves Smith -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > REPLY Certainly I'll be pleased to share. I found Squirrelgirl's query while trawling the net for my own geneaology research. She asked: "I am looking for information about Archibald Reeves, Jr. born approximately 2/17/1867 but possibly as late as 1877 (I have conflicting info from marriage certificate and ship manifest). He married Annie Gwillym and had 3 boys, Frank Archibald (b. 1905); Alfred (b. 1907); and Clyde (b. 1909). His father was also Archibald (b. ~1846) and his mother was probably Jane. "Archibald Jr. and Sr. worked on the Panama Canal and returned from the zone in 1913-14. They were from Lansford, Carbon County, PA but may have branched off into Plainfield, NJ when they returned. "Unfortunately, county records weren't kept that far back so I can't get any other info from them. Hope someone can help!" The information I have includes a reference to a JANE REEVES, nee BROWN, who I think is almost certainly the mother mentioned above. I had collated all the info into a single text, attached here (the text is colour coded to indicate sources but is easier to read in a black-and-white print-out). I would caution, however, that it is mostly derived from typewritten notes compiled by long-dead relatives, so I can't vouch for the accuracy or reliability of their sources. If anyone's able to add to or confirm any facts on the American side I'd welcome that! Stephen (great grandson of John and Catherine Brown, brother and sister-in-law of Jane Reeves nee Brown)

    2. That looks like a real nice place. The springs remind me of when I was growing up in Atlanta. My father would go out from Atlanta to a springs and fill two 5 gallons bottles with the spring water and bring them home. He didn't go as far as Cave Springs but there were places just outside of Atlanta. Brings back old memories. Thanks for sending. Beulah In a message dated 11/17/2007 9:15:04 P.M.
