    1. Re: Mary Reeves
    2. We have a Mary Reeves who was in Mercer Co., PA on the 1800 census. She was between the ages of 16-26. We have no other info on her. Her father was William and her mother was Hannah. Her brother, John, was my husband's gr.gr.gr. grandfather and he moved to Belmont Co., OH in 1840. This probably won't help much at this point, but you never know. dorleneh@aol.com. ------------------------------

I sure hope you haven't given up on your desire to post to the REEVES-L mailing list. But I think that I gave you a wrong address yesterday; I was hurrying getting ready for church yesterday... Actual posts (queries) that you want to share w/ the 40+ subsubscribers should be sent to: REEVES-L@rootsweb.com whereas requests for "SUBSCRIBE" and "UNSUBSCRIBE" should be sent to: REEVES-L-request@rootsweb.com Because of the 2 distinct addresses, I recommend that you save this message for future reference (if/when you decide to UNSUBSCRIBE...). I'm sure that others would be interested in your REEVES post/query. Go ahead and post it soon; we're *FINALLY* working properly (I think <grin>). 1. Mary Reeves
    2. The information I have on my Reeves line is embarassing short ... all I know is that my ancestor John H. Hooten (b. 1778 in NC; d. 24 May 1852 in Marshall Co, TN) married one Mary Reeves sometime before 1806. I know not her birth or death vitals. Any information regarding Mary Reeves would be appreciated. ------------------------------

    2. Greg Reeves
    3. A couple of you have asked recently if you need to "re-post" queries sent to me (Greg Reeves) in November in response to my "invitation to subscribe" letter. The answer is "yes," and here's why: I simply asked for those summaries of your individual interests in REEVES family genealogy so that, hopefully, I could identify common interests among groups of you even *BEFORE* our REEVES-L mailing list got going. 'That way, if two or three of you very clearly had a common REEVES ancestor, you 2-3 could share information outside of the normal REEVES-L subscriber pool. Of course, you're still welcome and encouraged to post any and all queries!!! But you'll need to do that yourself by sending your query to: REEVES-L@rootsweb.com The rootsweb.com was apparently "down" from late Thursday through Saturday evening and that's why--despite the fact that it was working earlier on Thursday--there's been so little posted/distributed on the REEVES-L mailing list. Everything seems to be working fine now, so let's get to posting, okay? It's also apparent that some of you are relatively unaquainted w/ just what a mailing list is; and many of you have asked "what the cost is?" There is no cost to any of you; I paid the $24/year fee to Rootsweb so that I was a sponsor-member and could start a mailing list. But it's FREE for all of you... Here too is a better description of what a mailing list is: _________________________________________________ About Mailing Lists Mailing lists are remarkably simple beasties: you send a piece of e-mail to the list's address, and the list retransmits that message to everyone who is subscribed. All Lists Have Two Addresses Every mailing list really has two addresses: the list name, where posts should be sent, and the list name followed by -request, where commands to the listserver software should be sent. For example, posts to REEVES-L should go to REEVES-L@rootsweb.com while "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests should go to REEVES-L-request@rootsweb.com. ______________________________________________________ Savvy? This isn't a "new Email address" for me; think of it as a "community Email address" where a post (message) is sent to one Email address (REEVES-L@rootsweb.com) and is automatically broadcast to all 40+ of us that are subscribed. Hope this clears of some confusion? Greg Reeves REEVES-L Listowner greg@rapidnet.com ------------------------------

    1. Need Info for James REEVES (?-1827)
    2. Greg Reeves
    3. Hi REEVES-L "Rooters" 'Anyone have ANY info on a "James REEVES (?-1827)? In a scientific approach, I'm trying to eliminate the possibility that James REEVES is the father of my own 4th Great Grandfather, John REEVES (b. between 1780-1790 in "eastern VA," d. 1840 in Bartholomew Co., IN). Let me explain... I have a paper, handwritten pedigree chart produced by a Tom Reeves that lists a "James REEVES" (b. 27 DEC 1730 in Prince William Co., VA and d. 24 AUG 1827). He reportedly married a "Sarah" and had at least one son; Van V. REEVES (b. 09 OCT 1795 in Westmoreland Co., PA, d. 25 APR 1872 in Brown Co., OH). A second pedigree chart submitted by a "John G. Fuestel" of Atlanta, GA (obtained from LDS FHC archives) lists a "James REEVES" (b. 1750 in NJ, d. 24 AUG 1827) who married a "Sarah VAN METER" and had a son, "Van Van Meter REEVES (b. 09 OCT 1796 in VA, d. 25 APR 1872 in Rock Island Co., IL). The similarities between names and dates is compelling despite the variances in places. I'm wondering if anyone else knows of other children of "James and Sarah REEVES" or brothers/sisters to "Van V. REEVES?" Greg Reeves REEVES-L Listowner greg@rapidnet.com ------------------------------
