My great grandmother was Elizabeth Ellan Reeves Quinn. She was born in Omaha, Ne Feb 7, 1857 and died there June 8, 1942. Her father was Preston Reeves of VA and her mother was Pamelia Sterrit either Maryland or North Dakota. I can barely read Pamelia's name on Elizabeth's death certificate and Pamelia's place of birth is a very illegible abreviation of either md or nd. Also Elizabeth's middle name looks like Ellar, but I've assumed that to be Ellan. I plan to look for obits in the newspaper and check out the cemetary record to clarify this and will likely do so over the Christmas break. The family story is that Elizabeth's father was the first postmaster of Omaha. I am fortunate to be located at the state capitol of Nebraska where we have a wonderful historical society. I would be happy to trade research with any folks needing Ne info who are located in some of the other places I am researching and who will return the favor. I currently need help with other family branches in Lee County, West Virginia, several places in MO, and East. St. Louis, Ill. I will not have access to this e-mail account through Jan. 9. If you would like to contact me within the next few weeks, please reach me at Blangdon@aol.com. I will also be subscribing to the list through that address over the break. Wishing all of our Reeves freinds and cousins a happy holiday, Barbara Tracy Langdon Barb Langdon English, Academic Transfer Southeast Community College Lincoln, Ne bslangdo@sccm.cc.ne.us ------------------------------

Cynthia Ellen REEVES, b. 2/6/1820 (TN? NC?) d. 8/19/1891 Howell Mountain, Napa Co., CA. Her brother was Jack Reeves, who stayed in Claiborne Co., TN when Cynthia moved north with husband's family. She married Reuben Rogers HAMPTON, son of Elisha Hampton & Lydia Merritt, February 4, 1842 in Powell Valley, Claiborne Co., TN. He was born April 18, 1822 in Powell Valley, Campbell /Claiborne Co., TN. Died August 14, 1891 in Pope Valley, Napa Co., CA. In the 1860 Census for Overton Co., TN, we find the Reuben Rogers Hampton family living there. Overton Co. lies three counties west of Campbell Co. where he was born and raised. Why did he move there? With the number of Reeves showing up in the same county, one might suspect that Reuben had moved to be near his wife¹s family, or that he and they had moved together westward. Sometime after the census was taken in 1860 and by early 1861 he had moved his family to Danville, IN, where his son, John D. Hampton, enlisted in the Union Army. The reason he chose Danville, was that his uncle William MERRITT had lived there since 1822. Reuben¹s mother¹s parents lived there a few years and were buried there. After the war they moved to Page Co., Iowa, where his sisters Sarah Hampton INGRAM and Amy Hampton WALKER had moved in 1857 with their husbands. The following Reeves were in Overton Co.TN in 1860: p.174 Reeves, H.P. 33 p. 120 Reeves, David 42 p. 643 Reeves, Robert 38 Reeves, Susana 38 p. 787 Reeves, James - Reeves, Salina 26 Has anyone been researching the above REEVES families? Do they know how Cynthia Ellen and Jack fit into these or other families? ------------------------------
Looking for info on William Reeves born in North Carolina, possibly married to Elizbeth ?, born abt. 1807 in VA. His daughter, Jency Reeves, born abt. 1827 in Indiana, is my gggrandmother. Other children may have been Rosa, born 13 Mar 1825 in Indiana; Lucy, born 1830 in TN; Anna, born in 1844 in AR. Info that I know is William left North Carolina and headed West, possible with the Abraham Villines wagon train. All the girls married young men from this wagon train. The wagon train traveled through Alabama and into TN where many of the families settled. In 1830 a William Reeves shows up on the census of Gibson Co., TN. in 1840 a William Reeves shows up on the Carroll Co., AR census. Many members of the wagon train moved to Newton Co., Ark (originally part of Carroll Co.). Is this William the father or the brother of Jency? Supposedly there is a mountain and creek naemd after the William who moved to Ark. After the 1840 census there is no mention of him again. Just the girls and their families show up on census records. Jency's name has never been spelled the same way twice on records that I have found. The family always spelled her name "Jency." I have seen it spelled Jincy, Ginsy, Giney, Ginery. I also ran across another Reeves in another family line: Sandro Jo Reeves, no dates or places; married Jimmie Bartett Bowling whose parents were Jimmie Laverne Bowling and Evelyn Barrett. They had three children: Christopher, Courtney and Weston. This all the info I have on this family. I assume that this family is from TN since that is where my Bowling line is. I have more info on the Reeves girls if anyone ties in. Marlyne rbnatali@inreach.com ------------------------------
In search of connections with Van Vanmeter Reeves, b. 1816 in Ohio. Van Vanmeter married Mary, b.1816 also from Ohio, and had 9 known children. James b. 1840 -IN, Susan b.1841-IN, Richard b. 1843 -IN, Thomas b. 1844 -IN, George b. 1847 -IN, Elias b. 1849 -IN, Sarah b. 1853 -IN, William b. 1857 -IN & Isaac b. 1859 -IN (my mothers GFather). There may have been another son or brother Van b. 1850. The family was born & lived in Indiana. Most moved to Iowa then Kansas in the 1870's where Van & Mary later died. Van Vanmeter Reeves b. 1816 was most likely the son of Van Vanmeter Reeves b. 1796 & Rachel Allerton; This is a link that needs to be proven. Van the younger was from the same area of Ohio that Van the elder married Rachel. The two Van's leap frogged each other to the same areas of Iowa and Illinois in the 1870's, along with the unknown Van b. 1850. I have information on the Reeves that ended up in Kansas to exchange with others searching this line. Jerry Roebke 72072.21@compuserve.com & GJRoebke@aol.com ------------------------------
