    3. Donna, Not to my knowledge. My folks originally came through NC to SC to GA, and the whereabouts of my recent lineage since then is well known to me. Of course, some of the branches undoubtedly settled in other places, but I have not run across Tennessee in any of the accounts I've seen. Thanks for inquiring, Paul Reeves ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 11:38 AM Subject: Re: [REEVES] Wiley Reeves b 4/27/1869 Granville Co., NC, d bef 1850 Fayette C... > Hi, > > Did any of your Reeves settle in Rutherford Co TN? > > Donna > > > ==== REEVES Mailing List ==== > To UNSUBSCRIBE: email <[email protected]> and write only the > word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message - nothing is needed in the > subject line. 3. Hi Paul, Thanks so much for the information! I had Maretta and Rufus' dates of birth wrong by 20 years--math is not my strength! I tried the web address you gave me and I feel like I've won the lottery! Every little bit of information that I gain makes me so happy. I'm pretty new to genealogy, but I'm learning. Everyone that I've "met" in my search of family has been so kind. I haven't tried the google search yet or checked out rootsweb, but I'll do that. I've used the rootsweb site before, but if I run into problems, I'll certainly contact you again. Thanks again! 3. This is an e-mail that I received about Austin B Reeves. The information may be helpful because it mentions Benjamin and his father Austin Smith R., but it mentions nothing about Eliza. Subject: Re: Austin S. Reeves born 12-12-1804, Mason Co. KY Author: sadiie Date: 05 Oct 2002 10:00 PM GMT Email: found an obituary for Austin B. Reeves.. Austin B. REEVES, farmer and stock-raiser, is a son of Benjamin and Nancy Reeves, the former a native of Virginia, the latter of Kentucky. Austin S. REEVES, grandfather of our subject, as a Revolutionary soldier, and Benjamin REEVES was a hero of the war of 1812. In 1820, he came to this county, passing down the Ohio in a flat-boat he had built. As a result of his industry, he acquired 160 acres, and made a good home from the virgin land. He was a Whig, and died February, 1846, aged sixty-six; his wife passed away seven years previous, aged fifty-four years. They were the parents of nine daughters and two sons. Austin B. REEVES was born in Van Buren Township August 27, 1829, and the eldest son of the family. He was brought up to industry and to farming. When seventeen years old, was left an orphan, and became an apprentice to blacksmithing; served nearly four years, and received only board and clothes. Later, he purchased the homestead farm, and devoted his time to agriculture. In 1882, he sold this farm and purchased his present home. August 5, 1854, he married Arabelle I. PAULEY, of this county, and to this union seven children came to bless it, six of whom are living - Garrison P., Flora B., Mary H., John Mc., B. Colfax and Austin M. Mr. REEVES is a liberal and worthy citizen, a Republican, and a member of the Patrons of Husbandry. Mrs. REEVES is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. <http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/ky+index+823510303991 5+F> this is where I found this information on the web hope it helps End of email I received. (I have some details if interested). Amelia (my direct ancestor) dies as does her husband James COBB leaving orphaned son William Reeves Cobb. The child is taken in by brother David Reeves (also minister) who moves north to Tarrytown NY. I am looking for any information about what brought James H Cobb (a Conn yankee) to Alabama around civil war time, and more on family in general. Especially wife Casander (sometimes spelled Capandra) and minister David Reeves

    3. Paul, Have you ever heard of a Maretta (I'm not sure of the exact spelling) Reeves who was born ca. 1865 to 1870 in Georgia? I don't know anything about her parents or siblings. She married Rufus M. Griffin, born in North Carolina ca. 1865. I'm not sure who all their children were, but they had a daughter named Martha Jane who married Albert Douglas Crow and a son named Charles Warner Griffin. Maretta and Rufus moved to Arkansas, then maybe Texas and I think ended up in Beaumont, California. If you have any information, I'd greatly appreciate it. Maretta was my gggrandmother. 1. RE: Posting your line.
    2. We have had a lot of posts so far and hope some of you are finding a connection. I have found one and hope we can correspond and find more about the family. We need everyone to post their line so all can see. Don't sit back and wait and see if someone else will post something you might tie into. If we can make enough matches we can search and compare our notes on each line. Between the DNA program and the paper trail we can make progress in finding those very elusive ancestors. Happy Hunting, Beulah

    1. Israel REEVES in HAM, England & William A Reeves, SC->Pickens Co, GA
    2. Greetings from the UK Firstly the corresponding UK list is [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) I've been sitting quietly on this list for a while. My primary interest is with my maternal Reeves family whose roots are in the New Forest area of Hampshire. My earliest record is for Israel REEVES born circa 1747 and buried 19 Sept 1828 at Fawley, Hampshire. If anybody is interested in a fuller list, please e-mail me or come join the REEVES-UK list. And sorry folks, I have no surviving direct male line kinsfolk I can volunteer for the DNA testing :-( My sister moved to the US some 20+ years ago and married into a family who included in their roots the REEVES name - pure coincidence - we have no proven or even suspected connections. The earliest name I have on the US REEVES family is William A REEVES who I understand was born 26 Nov 1828 in SC and married Rovanna MOSS (1841-1915) on 8 Jul 1858 in Jasper, GA. and died 8 Mar 1902 in Pickens Co, GA Their son was William Davis Reeves (b 19 Sept 1861, Picken Co, GA) who married Elizabeth B. (aka Sis) Mosley (1864-1948) on 6 Feb 1881, Jasper Co, GA I was given some documentation a few years back, but have done very little to help my nephew and niece progress the US Reeves line. They have to make do with their uncle droning on about the UK Reeves family. Who knows, when all the brick walls eventually stop my researches in the UK, I'll turn my attention further west. Could I also make one suggestion (no, its really a plea). Please remember there are those of us not so familiar with US geography, so if you would kindly always clearly indicate county AND state that would be a great help. Kindest regards, Martin Barker from Kent, England

    1. REEVES - Roll Call
    2. Gerry Taylor
    3. G'day everyone A roll call is a good idea but may I please request some clarification before posting details and, possibly, wasting everybody's time. Have just recently subscribed to this list because my wife's maiden name is REEVES. However, all e-mail traffic is from, and about, families in the USA with nothing seen from the UK. Have I joined the wrong list? Regards, Gerry Taylor Chesham, Buckinghamshire, UK

    1. Re: [REEVES] Roll Call Peter Reeves and Sally Redden
    2. As with Steve (and many other Reeves), I descend from Peter but through his son John who was perhaps the result of Peter straying from the reservation, so to speak, since there is opinion that John was the son of Peter and an Indian woman. Any information on John & Minerva and their son Paris/Parish (my GGF) and his siblings is appreciated. Best Regards, Bill Reeves 1. 3. Rootsweb.com lists two REEVES lists - this one and REEVES-UK. I belong to both, but have seen little activity from the one in the UK. Both groups are listed at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/r/reeves.html. I think there are advantages to belonging to both lists, since most Reeves in the US had ancestors who emigrated from the UK, and as Beulah says, the DNA project presents great opportunities to verify lineages way back.
