    1. RE: [REEVES] Elizabeth Lawson Reeves
    2. Barry Reeves
    3. Laverne, This is what I have on the William Reeves, Sr that I believe to be my 4th Great Grandfather. William Reeves, Sr. * Born about 1723 in Granville County, North Carolina. * Married Elizabeth Lawson about 1763 in Granville County, North Carolina * Had these children between 1764 and 1780: Mary Ann, Wylie, John Hardy, Elizabeth, Tabitha, William Jr, Lucy and Willis. * Wife Elizabeth Lawson Reeves dies about 1782. * Was listed as a Juror in the Court of Granville County, NC on August 10, 1787. * Moved to York County, South Carolina between 1787 and 1793. * Possible marriage to Elizabeth Thompson about 1793 in York County, SC * Listed in Censuses of 1800, 1810 and 1820 living in York County, SC * Died on July 15, 1821 in York County, South Carolina. I will be the first to admit that there are some discrepancies in the information about William Reeves, Sr. and I would welcome any evidence to prove or disprove what I have. Thanks, Barry Reeves -----Original Message----- From: Laverne Raisch [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2005 2:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [REEVES] Elizabeth Lawson Reeves Please give a time frame for William Sr. I am not sure which Wm you are speaking of. 1. Re: Reeves Genealogy Conference
    2. David, this sounds like a wonderful opportunity for those that can attend. While, I don't think I descend from that line, my hope is that you will post the findings of the conference. It would be of help to others that cannot attend. I am sure the subscribers of the Reeves list would appreciate any information you can post regarding Henry Reeves and/or any other information on how to research or record your information. Beulah Reeves McCain ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello All, Carole and I are looking forward to the upcoming Reeves Genealogy Conference. As you know, this conference is being held in order to bring together those who are either researching or interested in the Reeves line that descends from Henry Reeves, Sr. of Essex County Virginia. The objectives of this conference are: 1) To share and redistribute existing Reeves genealogical research 2) To identify areas needing further research 3) To introduce forms and methods of documentation. 4) To discuss emerging genealogical tools such as DNA testing and the Reeves Surname Project at Family Tree DNA. 5) To get to know others that share an interest in this family line The conference is scheduled to get underway at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday March 5, 2005 in Dunnsville, Virginia. We have not set a specific end time. Our group will consist of between five to ten people depending on who can attend. Please feel free to bring any research in any form to share. We hope this will be an informal but productive opportunity to share different pieces of the Reeves research puzzle. This is your chance to see if anyone else has the answer to those research questions that have puzzled each of us over the years. Please call or e-mail David LeRoux before Thursday, March 3rd if you plan to attend. We hope to see you soon. Warmest Regards, David LeRoux [email protected] Carole Eastridge Waters

    2. I am so pleased for you as I know when a little light shines through it makes everything worth all the hours that you have put into the research. Please keep us inform of your progress. maybe others can tie into your line. Beulah ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last week I received an email from someone who was able to connect through a great great granduncle. He was able to provide the first name of my great great great grandfather, Walter Francis Reeves who went to Michigan and served in the War of 1812. At that point I began looking further back. I believe his father was one Daniel Reeves in Delaware County, New York. He is the only Reeves listed in the 1890 (Ulster County) and 1800 censuses, and the children seem to match in this locale. I've been spending a lot of time trying to decipher the Study of the Reeve Family, and believe that Daniel is the son of Walter Reeve where it is listed "we know nothing more of him." So far the dates are matching, as well as naming patterns. The ancestry seems to go back to Robert Reeve of Caldercote. Thomas Reeve being the emigrant to the American colonies. I have been accessing the books and documents at Heritage Quest, and just located Rev War documents on said Daniel. The copies are pretty bad and are very difficult to read, had to take a nap, so will get back to them with fresh eyes. This is so wonderfully exciting. 3. Hi Tommie, Thanks for the information on Maretta Jane Reeves. Yes, I believe her name was sometimes spelled Marietta and from what my grandmother said, she was from Covington, Georgia--which is in Newton County. Gram said she was born in 1849, so she wasn't one of the two that you mentioned, but I bet they are relatives due to the same geographical area and the same name! Also, I believe that my Maretta Jane may have lived in Alabama--maybe a town named Wedowee after she married Rufus Marion Griffin. Even though the dates don't match, I think you've given me a little more information that could help me in my search. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to me. 3. Someone was asking about Maretta Jane Reeves of Newton Co. Ga. I wondered if her name was not sometimes spelled Marietta Jane Reeves. I could mention a couple that I found. One is Jessie and Cynthia Reeves had a three year old Marietta Reeves when they were listed in Dade Co. Ga. in 1860. My own great uncle Thomas Lofton Reeves and wife Martha had a daughter Marietta age 3 in 1880. They were living in Roanoke Alabama . Not knowing the time frame you were seeking I do not know if they apply. Thomas Lofton's aunt Martha Reeves married David Roberts and lived in Covington during their married life. Martha's father Thompson Reeves was in Newton Co. GA. in 1830. I know his children and he did not have a Marietta/Maretta at all. I can't really help with anything definite. Good luck to you. 3. Tommie, I have corresponded with many other researchers about this line over the years and most seem to think that William Sr. had a second wife named Elizabeth. But to be honest with you, I can't say that I have ever seen any convincing evidence to support it. I believe that someone sent me some copies of their research on William. Sr a long time ago that had some additional information about his "second" family. I'll see if I can locate the information. I think it was one of those things that I wanted to follow up on but didn't have the time when I received it, so I put it in my "ToDo" box. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your nephew's DNA test. Perhaps when we see those results, it will indicate how closely we are related. If there is a close match, that could provide additional evidence of the second wife "Elizabeth".
