    3. This is a very interesting list because all the names are so familiar, but the ages are slightly off for the Reeves I am researching, and they were mostly in Porter County, not Owen. I am looking at the children of Austin Smith Reeves (1757-1820) and Abigail Mason (1755-1817), especially the seventh child, George (1794-1853) and Elizabeth Brown (1794-1884). If you got this batch sorted out, I'd like to know the details. 1. Re: {not a subscriber} RE: [REEVES] Re: James Reeves, 1790 census, Greenvill...
    2. Hello All, First, those attending the Reeves conference: I wish you a safe and pleasurable trip, and productive conference. Since I'm in California, I cannot attend. I am still searching for any information on my third Great Grandfather below; JAMES REEVES. I would be VERY grateful for any new information. I've been working on him now for thirty years, and have not been able to connect him to anyone's line yet. Thank you so much, Kathy Wilburne San Dimas, CA [email protected] [email protected] Generation No. 1 1. JAMES1 REEVES was born Abt. 1765, possibly near Greenville, S.C.. He met NANCY GOODWIN before 1800, and they moved in Christian & Trigg County, KY at that time. Nancy was the daughter of JESSE GOODWIN and unknown first wife. (Jesse GOODWIN was married twice: second wife was Susannah HOWARD. Children by the first wife: John and Nancy GOODWIN). Nancy was born Bef. 1775, possibly in S. C, and died bef. July 10, 1841 (as proven by her father's will, dated 1841). The GOODWINs appear in Pendleton County, and Old 96, S.C., but move into Trigg County, KY before 1800. James and Nancy Reeves moved from there, into Gallatin, and Saline Co's in Illinois about 1814-1816, then moved into Obion, TN after 1830. Nancy appears on lists for Primitive Baptist congregations in both Illinois and TN. According to family story, James Reeves moved to Fort Smith, ARK with family after about 1850. He disappears at that point. It is unknown where either he, or Nancy Goodwin Reeves are buried. He is half Cherokee according to family Dawes depositions taken in 1896, but the application was rejected by the courts. The ten children listed below for James and Nancy, are verified in the will of Jesse Goodwin, dated 1841 (Nancy is deceased) and proved in 1848. 3. Hi Shelley -- I would suggest that you contact Donia McDonald about your Sarah. [email protected] I believe that Sarah is the daughter of George Reeves and Mary O'Barr. Donia is a descendant of George and Mary's daughter, Dorinda. I also believe that Charles Spencer is the son of Samuel Spencer. George Reeves and Samuel Spencer were close friends and neighbors in Hickman Co. TN in the early 1800's. They both served as Justices of the Peace in Hickman in 1811. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shelley Janiczek Woodson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2005 6:44 AM Subject: [REEVES] Winifred REEVES and Sarah REEVES, 1700s, TN > Hello Everyone, > > The DNA project is exciting! 3. Dear Listers, I am feeling humble today and happy. The fact that my nephew Stephen Reeves DNA was a 25 point match immediately is wonderful. The real bonus is to be a closer cousin to Barry Reeves. He is a fine person and has been helpful to me for several years. If anyone knows anything about William Reeves who married Elizabeth Lawson and a possible second marriage to another lady named Elizabeth who might have been the mother of Thompson Reeves b. 1799 I would appreciate so much hearing. A few years ago someone I was corresponding with sent me copies of handwritten notes concerning the settlement of Williams estate. It would have been after his first wifes death I believe. There was a reference to Widow Reeves several times. The documentation of what each child received from their father at any previous time from bowl and spoon to gray mare was extensive. It told what they were given for their wedding and what they were entitled to now. One statement referred to a son who was deceased and it required a statement from Elizabeth Reeves and Elizabeth Glover the daughter as to what that son had received. My Thompson would have been about 22 at that time. There was no mention of him. I am open to learning what I need to change if I can only find the facts. Thank you. Tommie

    1. Winifred REEVES and Sarah REEVES, 1700s, TN
    2. Shelley Janiczek Woodson
    3. Hello Everyone, The DNA project is exciting! I wish I could participate (no male relative). The list is so active now, I'm hoping someone can help me. My cousin Roy Bingham has done fantastic work researching our Bingham/Reeves line. What I have here is information he discovered. Unfortunately, I've never been able to add much new information to what he found, even though I've tried for years. Can anyone help? I have two direct REEVES ancestors. I can only guess that they are related somehow. First is my 4th Great Grandmother, Sarah REEVES, b. June 18, 1796 in Milledgeville, McNairy Co., TN and d. November 13, 1855, buried in Hardin Co., TN. She was the wife of Charles SPENCER (1791-1856). They married in Hickman, Co., TN. They lived in Hickman and McNairy Co., TN. No information on her parents - only guesses. The second is my 6th Great Grandmother Winifred REEVES, b.? (late 1700s I guess?). She married Alexander BINGHAM, (b. abt. 1777), February 02, 1797 in Davidson Co., TN. In 1799, they were apparently in Sumner Co., TN. No parent information on Winifred either, whose name on marriage record is spelled, "Winefred REEVS." Bondsmen were Alexander BINGHAM and John BOSLEY. The REEVEs, BINGHAMs, and SPENCERs were related families. The SPENCERs were from Burke Co., NC (1700s). Some have related to me that family lore is that Winifred and Sarah were sisters and somehow related to Charolotte REEVES, dau. of George REEVES and Mary JORDAN. I am told that George was b. abt. 1714 in Brunswick, VA and died in Davidson Co., TN. Another bit of family lore is that Winifred and Sarah's father's was named George REEVES and that the women had a brother, George REEVES, Jr. I've never been able to prove any of this. Notably, these are the same folks who swore that my Aunt Ruth BINGHAM died in the Great Chicago fire (she was b. in 1902) and that she had a brother who was also, quite oddly, named "Ruth." Brother and sister, Ruth and Ruth. How odd, they would say. Turned out his name was "Rufe." He-he. There is usually a grain of truth in the family lore :) Other REEVE in family: Cousin John William SPENCER, b. 1869 married Mattie REEVES, b. 1872. No info on her either. ANY hints or tips appreciated! Thanks in advance! Shelley -- Shelley Janiczek Woodson

    1. New DNA Test Results
    2. Barry Reeves
    3. Hi Everyone, I have some very exciting news to report on our Reeves DNA project. We have our second exact 25/25 match. This time it is real personal, because one of the matching results is mine. I received the news last Sunday night that I had a 12/12 match with Stephen Reeves # 28839. Stephen is the nephew of our REEVES-L list member Tommie Smith. Then just this evening the results of the remaining markers were received and we are an exact 25/25 match. This means that we have about a 94% chance of a common ancestor within the last 300 years. My research has indicated that I descend from William Reeves, Sr (1723 NC - 1821 SC) through his son Willis Reeves. Willis was the last son of William's marriage to his wife Elizabeth Lawson. There have been indications that after Elizabeth Lawson Reeves died, William remarried a woman named Elizabeth Thompson and a son named Thompson Reeves resulted from this second marriage. I have corresponded with Tommie Smith for quite a while. She has always suspected that her Great Great Grandfather Thompson Reeves (b. 1799) was this same son from the second marriage of William Reeves, Sr., but had found it difficult to prove. Although much more work will be required and nothing is certain yet, I think we finally have the scientific evidence to support this connection. I can't tell you how exciting this is to me. I'll have to admit that I had my doubts in the beginning that I would ever see any positive results from the DNA testing, but I am totally convinced that this is the most important research tool that is available today. I can only hope that each of you will see similar results of your own in the very near future. Please join us in this extremely valuable project. Please take a look at the latest results. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~reevesdna/ Best Regards, Barry Reeves

    2. There was a Henry Reeves (Balyew's District) on the 1830 Census of Talbot County, GA. listed as having one child under 3 years; two under 5; one of five to 10; one in the household of "30 and under forty"; Does anyone have connections to this Henry Reeves? This Henry is listed on the same census and in the same district as Wiley Buckner, my GG grandfather. Wiley Buckner's daughter, Mary Buckner, married Thomas Jefferson Reeves and they also made their home in Talbot County.
