    2. Hello again... I am so sorry... I guess I get way too caught up in my own research area sometimes. Yes, it is North Carolina. 3. I thought I was trying to tie back to this Jesse b. 1760 through his son Coleman that is listed in several trees. I've even taken the DNA test. But if this Jesse b. 1760 died in Ashe Co. N. C. in 1833 and not Jasper Co. Ga. in 1815, then who are these descendents who are getting married in and around Jasper Co. in the early 1800's. I will soon post to the list a long list of early Ga. marriages by Co. and date as soon as I get it typed up. Can any one furnish me with the correct names of the ancestor and descendents of this Jesse and is he the son of Malachi b. 1737 the son of James b. abt. 1703? Good luck with the clean up. 1. Re: Burwell Irwin
    2. Hi ! Tommy, Great to hear from you again. Your theory's make a lot of sense and may have been the cause of both Burwell and young Issac's death. The way the family story goes is that Burwell had been working in the field (Aug being probably the hottest month) and when he arrived home, he started to "romp" with the kids.He apparently over exerted himself and was soon gasping for breath. Burwell is thought to have had a heart attack. The son Issac was supposedly well enough to attend the burial the next day and was whittling on a stick causing the flakes to fall into the grave. When he was asked by his mother (Della Mariah (Reeves) Irwin to stop, he replied, "Don't worry, papa won't feel a thing and I will soon be with him". Sometime later he laid down on a bed and his mother covered him with his special blanket. According to family lore he never awoke. It seems strange that all this could happen in two days, but the death dates are recorded in a family bible. The story comes from Ora May De Ford, a grand-daughter of Burwell's. If the story is true, I would assume that young Issac may have died of heart-break. Dave Chandler - [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) In a message dated 3/31/2005 3:30:51 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Hi Dave, I read your note on the Reeves List. I had no reason to know but a couple of things popped in my mind. If the young Isaac Curtis was working with his father in Aug 23 in the field he could have had like a heat stroke and just lived one more day. I suppose he could have been desolate or felt he could have prevented his father's death and been led to take his own life. But they must both have been working in very hot weather. Maybe Walter can clear it up for you. I just felt I needed to speak up. My best, Tommie Smith

    1. Re: [IAFREMONT] Elizabeth Reeves married Winfield Long
    2. Dear Walter, Glad to see you back on the FREMONT board. You have so much history it amazes me to no end. Thank you so much for all your postings. I am related to the IRWIN, REEVES & HANING families of Fremont County. I believe Burwell Irwin, (my G-Grandfather) lived in Ross Twp., Fremont Co. He married Della Mariah Reeves, daughter of 1808 Joseph Reeves, born Alexander Twp., Athens Co. Ohio. Mariah & Burwell were originally born in Meigs County, Ohio. Burwell is said to have died of heart failure, after a day of labor in the fields. Aug.23,1878. Burwell's oldest son, Isaac Curtis Irwin, who was 16 at the time, died just 1 day after his father, Aug.24th,1878 cause unknown. This seems strange to me that both died so close together unless it was some type of sickness, such as Yellow Fever or ?? My question to you Walter, do you have any paper articles from that time period that might explain these strange deaths ? Dave Chandler - [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])

    1. DNA question
    2. DAVID LEROUX
    3. Sue, I think I understand your question. Your grandmother's maiden name is Reeves. She is your closest direct Reeves relative. I believe you wanted to know if there is any chance of getting a match by testing a female. The answer is none (not any chance at all). That is because women cannot have this test performed. We are testing the DNA sequence of the Y chromosome because it is the only chromosome that is passed down over the generations without alteration. All other chromosomes are unpredictable mixture from both parents. Only males have y chromosomes in their DNA which is passed down from father to son (exactly like the surname). In order for your family line to participate in the Reeves project, you would have to find your closest living male Reeves and have them tested. Lets assume that you grandmother was born a Reeves. The possible men that you could get to be tested (if any ever existed and are currently living) are: 1) Your grandmother's brother (your Reeves great uncle) 2) Your grandmother's bother's son (your Reeves uncle) 3) Your grandmother's brother's grandson (your male Reeves second cousin) Your next option, if none of the above exists, is to go one generation back from your grandmother. Find out if your great grandfather Reeves had any brothers, and then trace his descendents to find a living male Reeves that descends from your great great uncle Reeves. If no luck there, then keep going back on your Reeves line to trace for other branches that have produced living male Reeves. I hope this helps. If I misunderstood your question, try me again. David

    2. I have a question. I have three generations before I get to a male REEVES in my direct line, myself, my Mother and my Grand Mother. What are the chances of getting a match in DNA for the female. I am thinking not many markers. Sue C. 1. DNA Test, where to go from here.
    2. DAVID LEROUX
    3. Sue, Good job on finding a male Reeves from your line to join the project! The cost of the test is $169 for the 25 marker and $99 for the 12 marker test. There is also a small shipping charge. The 25 marker test will better show how close two participants match. In order to have a kit sent out you can go directly to the Reeves Surname join page at the following link: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=S73785 <http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=S73785&special=true> &special=true Once on the page, fill out the information as requested and select the Y-DNA25 or Y-DNA12 as the type of test. You can enter a credit card number with the online order or request that an invoice be sent along with the test kit. You can choose to have the test kit sent to you, and then you can take it to your relative; or you can have it mailed directly to your relative. I hope you will inspire others to find someone in their family to be tested. If you have any further questions, feel free to email directly at [email protected] Sincerely, David LeRoux

    1. DNA Project
    2. Several weeks ago I very excitedly posted I had found my cousin to take the DNA test for me. He was 92 and in poor health. I hate to announce that he passed away last Friday. I am sorry he didn't live long enough to see any results but I think of the legacy he left is so important. I hope it will help me and others to know their Reeves Line. Already they have increased the markers from 25 to 37. I know they will be able to do more with it in the future. I am posting this for those that have been holding back. Don't hold back too long or it could be too late. It takes time and effort to find someone in your family to take the test but in the long run it will be worth it to you and others later. I was lucky that a subscriber on this list helped me out and looked in the phone book and found he was still listed. I was fortunate and I am very thankful. Please think about it. I know some can't take the test but see if a family member can take it or search for extended family. Some of you know others from your line. Get together and all chip in to pay for one test. Think about it. Beulah
