    1. Reeves DNA Project
    2. Barry Reeves
    3. All, I have received a few emails lately with questions about the DNA project. From some of the questions that are being asked, I think there is still a little confusion about the requirements for taking the test. Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, here are the requirements and steps for participation in the Reeves DNA Project. REQUIREMENTS: * You must be MALE * Your last name must be: REAVES, REEVE, REEVES, RIEVES, RIVE, RIVES, RYVES, etc. (We are including all spellings of the Reeves surname because spellings can change over time within the same family line) NOTE: If you are FEMALE and would like to include your Reeves line in the testing, you can always get a close male relative such as a: Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, etc. to take the test for you as long as their last name is one of the surnames shown above. STEPS: * Order the "Y-DNA25 - Male 25 marker paternal test" from FamilyTreeDNA (Group rate price $169) * When your kit arrives, you will receive two cotton swabs, two small vials containing a preservative and a release form. * Swab the inside of your mouth (cheek) with one of the swabs and then place the swab in one of the vials. * Repeat the process with the other swab on the other side of your mouth (cheek). * Fill out the release form. This gives FamilyTreeDNA permission to release your results to our project administrator and also to notify any other participant with matching results. * Put everything in the postage-paid envelope and return to FamilyTreeDNA. You will generally receive a notification of your results by email in about 5 to 8 weeks although some have taken longer. You will also receive the results by mail. Don't forget that during the time you are waiting for the results would be the perfect time to send me your Reeves family line so it can be posted to our website. I hope this answers any questions you may have. Best Regards. Barry Reeves Email: [email protected]

    1. Reeves DNA Project Website update
    2. Barry Reeves
    3. All, The Reeves DNA Project website has been updated with the results of our latest matches. Here is the link again for your convenience. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~reevesdna/ As you can see, we are beginning to see the formation of groups. I am very excited and pleased to have found matches with Tommie Smith and our List owner Beulah McCain. I am looking forward to working with them. By combining our research efforts, we will hopefully be able to prove or disprove our independent findings. The results of this effort will not only benefit us, but it will help anyone who descends through the same lines. If you have been undecided about participating in the DNA testing, please give it serious consideration. The more people that participate, the more solid our research conclusions will become. I know the cost of the testing has been prohibitive for some people, but perhaps you can get several members of your family to contribute toward the test for someone in your family line. This project is extremely important, not just for those taking the test now, but for our children, grandchildren and the generations to follow. I hope Beulah will allow me to use her experience as an example. Since we are doing the Y-Chromosome DNA test, Beulah had to locate a male relative of the Reeves surname to take the test for her family line. After months of searching, she was able to get her cousin Antone Reeves to take the test for her. Sadly, Antone Reeves passed away just weeks after taking the test. If he had not taken the test, we would have never known that our DNA matched. Just something to think about. My sympathies go out to Beulah and the immediate family of Antone Augustus Reeves for their loss. Regards, Barry Reeves

    3. Thanks to all who responded to my recent post. Carol Waters, I especially thank you for sending me the line for the Jesse b. 1760 that you will be doing the Cemetery Cleanup for the 16th of April. No, I do not go back to that line, but since they were both born the same year with the same name in N C they may be cousins. If you could get one of the male cousins at the clean up to agree to do a DNA Test it would be great, and I would be glad to pay for it if I need to. It is just a simple cheek scrape. Getting all to take the test is very important since we are not getting any younger. Please get everyone there to fill out family group sheets since you may not be able to get them together again. Again Thank, James

    2. If in your research you have trouble finding your family. There are many counties that were absorbed by other counties. Then they no longer exist. This is s ite that might help you find if your ancestors resided in on of these counties. Hope it will help. Beulah http://barusa.tripod.com/ghostcounties/

    1. RE: [REEVES] DNA for Austin B Reeves 1829-1887
    2. Robert Reeves
    3. Hi Jan, Austin B Reeves is probably a close branch from my line. If various web-posted sites are to be believed, they came from Virginia to northern Kentucky and southern Ohio. They seem not to be connected to the many Reeves lines in the deep south. I am reasonably documented to my 2nd great grandfather George Reeves ((KY 1794 - OH 1853) and his son Austin Smith Reeves (OH 1826- KY 1886). George appears to be the seventh child of Austin Smith Reeves (1757 - KY 1820) and Abigail Mason (VA 1755 - 1817). From another researcher, Cheri Reeves Trautwein currently in Seattle, I have the first child of Austin and Abigail as Benjamin (VA 1783 - 1847 IN), who married Nancy ?? (KY abt. 1785 - abt 1839) and whose son was Austin B. I see Tommie Smith has some input as well. I took the DNA test but the matches to the others in the Reeves project are poor. I have a second cousin who I have urged to take the test as a check on whether the lab work for mine is correct. If you look at the results, you will see me listed with oldest known ancestor as George. Bob Reeves, Los Angeles I was sent an email containing the following obit for Austin B: "Austin B. REEVES, farmer and stock-raiser, is a son of Benjamin and Nancy Reeves, the former a native of Virginia, the latter of Kentucky. Austin S. REEVES, grandfather of our subject, as a Revolutionary soldier, and Benjamin REEVES was a hero of the war of 1812. In 1820, he came to this county, passing down the Ohio in a flat-boat he had built. As a result of his industry, he acquired 160 acres, and made a good home from the virgin land. He was a Whig, and died February, 1846, aged sixty-six; his wife passed away seven years previous, aged fifty-four years. They were the parents of nine daughters and two sons. Austin B. REEVES was born in Van Buren Township August 27, 1829, and the eldest son of the family. He was brought up to industry and to farming. When seventeen years old, was left an orphan, and became an apprentice to blacksmithing; served nearly four years, and received only board and clothes. Later, he purchased the homestead farm, and devoted his time to agriculture. In 1882, he sold this farm and purchased his present home. August 5, 1854, he married Arabelle I. PAULEY, of this county, and to this union seven children came to bless it, six of whom are living - Garrison P., Flora B., Mary H., John Mc., B. Colfax and Austin M. Mr. REEVES is a liberal and worthy citizen, a Republican, and a member of the Patrons of Husbandry. Mrs. REEVES is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. 3. Jan, My answer has nothing to do with DNA. In previous communiction with another reseacher, I am told there is an Austin Smith Reeves who was born in 1757 who married Abigail, His proposed parents are Benjamin b. 1721 and Sarah. Benjamin's proposed father is George an immigrant who married Ann Doggett. Could Austin B. be the son of Austin Smith Reeves? The source given for the information was " Daughters of the American Colonists in Missouri History and Lineage Book" pp 310-311 The author was not given to me. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Tommie

    3. Laverne, I am probably a descendant of the William Reeves who you name. I have a first cousin, Reeves, who is not interested in paying for the DNA test and I do not have that much money right now and have no children who would be interested in this information. 1. DNA Match 25/25
    2. The most amazing thing has happened, my cousins DNA results has just come through and it is a 25/25 match with Barry and Tommie. This is the most exciting news to come out. We can just about form a group and will begin to work together some. We will post anything we find so all can share, especially those that can't take the test. It is so important for others to continue to join. The more we have subscribing to the DNA program the better the results will be. I am sure Barry will post the results soon, if he hasn't already done so. I do believe this group is the ones descending from William in Guilford Co., NC different lines but going back to William. It has be proven with a little more time I am sure it will. We need those who descend from other sons of William to take the test. So far it is pretty amazing to have these three match so perfectly so quickly. So come on and join the fun of finding your extended family. 3. James, Have you ever heard of a Merrieta?Marrieta Reeves from Georgia. She probably would have been born in the 1840's or so. She married Rufus Marion Griffin from Cherokee County, NC. Thanks, Diane Blodgett --- James Reeves <[email protected]> wrote: > I thought I was trying to tie back to this Jesse b. > 1760 through his son Coleman that is listed in > several trees. 3. James - please let me know if you find a Reuben Reeves marrying c 1808 a Nancy [unk] who said she was b GA on 1850 census.. Also his brother Jonathon married a Delilah [also from GA] who MIGHT be a sister to my Nancy. Probably married about the same time and probably the same place. Thanks for any help.
