I have a male cousin who is going to do the DNA for "us". Perhaps I will be able to follow my "northerners" better. C
Not familiar with that George but my grandfather, was George Washington Dill, sometimes called George Harrison Dill. I have no idea why. These Dills came through Ohio from Pa and Dele, stayed a while and came on, most of them to Warren Co.,Benton Co.,Lafayette,Ind and Iroquois co. Ill, as well as Vermilion county. Many more places northern midwest. [email protected]
thanks, I will hope for more replies from "northerners". I am trying to track John Reeves (married Mary Dill from Dillsburg), his previous family is very elusive! They had to come from somewhere. I suspect Dele or PA or further north! Meantime, keep my question running please! Thank you, [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])
My Reeve came from NJ. Walter Reeve arrived in Burlington Co, NJ before 1678 from England. My Reeves was in CT a long time ago. I'll send in a query and hope for help. I have a George W. Reeves born c1847 somewhere in Kentucky married to an Elizabeth Campbell born Jan 27, 1845 somewhere in Tennessee. She died Feb 14, 1919 in Richview, Washington Co., IL. Not sure where George died, but presumably same as Elizabeth since their children were born in Washington Co., IL area. Anyone out there know this George and Elizabeth Reeves? thanks, Ed Crabtree - Missouri, USA [email protected] All outgoing messages checked by McAfee VirusScan
I disagree that all of the postings seem to come from the south in that I see several inquires from northern states. If it seems that there are several postings from the south may be it is because we care very deeply about family. Also our records are very old, were not kept for researchers or many were burned during the Civil War and so non existent. If you are looking at the DNA postings the south is only slightly ahead.Out of 19 test taken 6 seem to be from the north, 7 from the south and 6 haves not reported their lines - these I do not understand at all since they are defeating one of the purposes of the research. Please send them in. James P.S. I've taken the DNA test and am actively looking for cousins to do likewise. With the absence of records it is the only way we can piece our lines together, but it will take a lot more test and research. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2005 12:14 PM Subject: [REEVES] posting > All of the Reeves seem to be coming from the south. All of the Reeves seem to be coming from the south. Does anyone have information/family from PA, Ohio, Ind, Ill? I have a William Reeves from Portsmouth, Pike County, Ohio, died Sept 14, 1879 in Milford, ILL. Many other Reeves that never seemed to come from the south. [email protected]
I would like to join the Reeves registry but why is it necessary to give my password? I would like to provide and receive information through this registry, I think. [email protected]

Sue, In the scenario you describe, you are correct. The only way for you to participate at this time is by finding a male Reeves who descends through the most recent male Reeves ancestor that your Reeves female also descends from. Please don't get discouraged. Keep in mind that we are doing a Y-Chromosome test. The Y-Chromosome is only passed from father to son. Since we are all members of this list for the purpose of establishing and researching our REEVES ancestry, the Y-Chromosome test was the most logical place to start. We have discussed other types of DNA tests such as the mtDNA (Mitochondrial DNA) which is passed down through the female line. As a group, we may decide in the future that we want to pursue the female lines by starting a mtDNA test project. There would be no point in undertaking a mtDNA test project until we have established male Reeves lines to connect to. This is only possible by doing the Y-Chromosome test first. Here are a couple of links to pages on the FamilyTreeDNA site that give a more detailed explanation of the Y-Chromosome test versus the mtDNA test. http://www.familytreedna.com/description.html http://www.familytreedna.com/description.html#mtDNA Please understand that we don't want anyone to feel excluded from participating in our Reeves DNA project. We are just now taking our first step in using DNA to support our Reeves research. Once we have established clear Reeves family lines, we'll take a look at what the next step should be. When that time comes, it will be a group decision. I guess I'm out of luck, huh? I'm female and have no male relatives with the name of Reeves and various spellings. All I know is that my g-g-g-grandmother was named Barbara (Barbary) Reeves and married William McElvy, born about 1778-1781. They married in 1799. After that I only have the McElvy name.
