    2. David Reeves
    3. Hi All, I'm new to genealogy, but am getting places fast! I was born in the UK, but I'm now in NYC, and have been doing research on the Net/GRO. I've managed to go as far back as Thomas Reeves, whom I have found in the 1851 UK Census onwards. He was born 1806/7 in Arle/Swindon, Gloucestershire, and lived in Arle for all of his life as an agricultural labourer. Beyond that, I'm going to have to go back to England and sort through parish registers I think, unless someone here knows any better ;) As a molecular biologist, I'm fascinated by the DNA project too - I might have to try that sometime! Best wishes, David Christopher Reeves (b. 1976, Birmingham, UK)

    3. David, Welcome to the list. As a molecular biologist, you may be able to bring a new perspective to the results of our DNA project. I would also encourage you to take part in the test. We have been trying to find someone in the UK or who has recent ancestors in the UK to take part in the testing. If we could get a match with someone from the UK that would provide a lot of encouragement for those of us who believe our roots are there. Have you taken a look at our DNA project site? Here is the link. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~reevesdna/ Thanks, Barry Reeves Reeves DNA Project Coordinator -----Original Message----- From: David Reeves [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, April 30, 2005 12:43 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [REEVES] Earliest Known Reeves Ancestor Hi All, I'm new to genealogy, but am getting places fast! 1. Earliest Known Reeves Ancestor
    2. Barry Reeves
    3. All, My earliest known Reeves ancestor was Robert Ryves born about 1490 in England and died Feb 11, 1551 in Blandford, Dorsetshire, England. His wife was Joan (Unknown) and they were married about 1512. Robert was thought to be the second generation of his line to be in England. Prior to the mid to late 1400's, his family is thought to have migrated from France. My current research project is trying to make a connection between the Ryves of Dorset, England and the Rives family in France. A few months ago, I came across a book titled "The Yellow Cross - The Story of the Last Cathars' Rebellion against the Inquisition (1290 - 1329)" by Rene Weis. In this book are many references to the Rives family who were prominent players thoughout the book. It mentions a Bernard Rives and his wife Alazais who lived in the town of Montaillou, France. Next door to them was Bernard's brother Raymond Rives. Bernard and Alazais Rives were married adults with children during the 1290 to 1300 time frame. The interesting thing mentioned in the book is that Bernard and his brother Raymond Rives make their living in the textile trade. Coincidentally, this is the same business in which the Ryves of Dorset, England made their living. I haven't made a direct connection yet, but it seems possible the Ryves of Dorset could be descendants of this Rives family in Monaillou, France. Regards, Barry Reeves

    1. MY first and only known Reeves
    2. Barbara & George Grenier
    3. Hi all Mary Reeves married Jonathan Squire, Weston, Fairfield CT 19 Nov 1775 at the Congregational Church. I originally came across her in Donald Lines Jacobus' book The History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield [CT]. He didn't have a clue to who she was. She was the third wife of Jonathan and they proceeded to have four children in Weston and baptized there. Darius bapt 6 Oct 1776 Mary bapt 10 Jan 1779 (??died young) Phineas-Reeves bapt 27 Aug 1780 Sarah bapt 14 Apr 1782 Then Jacobus says Jonathan resided in Fredericksburgh district Dutchess Co NY. 1783-1784. That's where my 3rd great grandfather, Bradley Squire was born Oct 1783. This area is now in Putnam Co NY to the best of my research. I have not found a baptism for Bradley and am still looking. Jonathan is dead by Dec 1784 and there is an almost 7 year gap where I can't find Mary and the kids. An older son by the first marriage stayed in NY Mary married Caleb Hendee Sr. (a big fish in a small pond:-) in Pittsford, Rutland, VT 30 June 1791. They had a son, Abner, born on 8 Aug 1792. There is no record of her death or burial that I have found so far. Caleb married her about six weeks after his first wife died (in childbirth I suspect) and his children of this marriage were extremely unhappy about it. Caleb Hendee was town clerk and a deacon in the Baptist church and thus this line of the Squire family became Baptists. Local histories of Pittsford state that both Mary Reeves Squire Hendee and Bradley Squire were from Manchester, [VT?]. Mary must have gone to some relative with her young children. Reeves?? Squire?? or?? A local genealogy guru told me there were REEVES on Long Island. This is just across the water from Fairfield. Haven't found any links. One thought is that Mary's father might be a Phineas, haven't found anything so far and haven't had time to look for some time. 1. Reeves DNA : Next Step
    2. DAVID LEROUX
    3. Hello to All, I wanted to inform everyone of the next step in the development of the Reeves DNA project. We are hoping to formulate a list of all known immigrant Reeves ancestors. We generally consider the Reeves surname to be English with perhaps an earlier origin in France. However, we do not have a good working list of first known Reeves throughout the world. We know that Reeves have emigrated from England to Virginia, New Jersey, Australia, Canada and perhaps Canada. We are asking all on the list to notify us of their earliest known Reeves ancestor. We also need the date and place where that ancestor was first documented. By documented, I mean when they show up as a land owner or on a census or tax list. We are looking for all first known Reeves throughout the world. We will hopefully be able to use this information to build a framework to form groups within the Reeves DNA study. I will ask that everyone email their response to the Reeves list. I appreciate everyone's help with this project. We now have 23 participants and have had several very close matches which have allowed us to form our first groups. This next step will hopefully allow us to involve more people in the Reeves DNA project and find the connections between us. Thanks for your help. David LeRoux

    3. Listers, Barry mentioned our new Family line # 34977. When I looked it up it concerned the family of Leroy Reeves of Cobb, Co. I was very excited because I had spent some time over the years trying to learn more about the family. In the Cobb Co. Ga. 1850 three Reeves families are in consecutive order in the census. First is Littleton Reeves who is 33 , next is Leroy Reeves who is 47 and a third who is John Reeves age in the 40's. they each have wives and large families. In the 1840 census Malakiah Reeves age 70 is next door to Leroy. Two doors away is Littleton. I am not sure which Malakiah this is but his birth must have been about 1770. The reason for my interest is that my Great Grandfather, James Marion Reeves b. 1823 was in Gwinnett Co. G. in 1850 with a first young son named Littleton. This a very rarely used name to my finding. James Marion's father was Thompson Reeves b. 1799 in either S.C. Or Ga. I am eager to see any relationship in the DNA with that of Barry, Beulah and I. I will look forward to the possibility of communicating with this family. My best, Tommie Reeves Smith

Several people have said that it would be easier if the test results and family lines were on the same page. I have uploaded a draft for a new design (see link below). I would appreciate any and all comments, suggestions and yes even criticisms. I am also working on a database to store the information so that searches and comparisons can be run against the test results. Your thoughts are always welcomed. Barry, the new page is neat, but I'm concerned that a single large page will be less useful with even more scrolling up and down, particulary as more individuals are added Have you considered making each name on the results page a link to the corresponding data on the separate family lines page? If the Family Lines were ordered in the same sequence as the results page, it would then be possible to view the family lines of individuals who share similar DNA profiles much more easily..... Just a thought Keep up the good work Martin (from Kent, England)

    2. Barb, My lines descend from James Reeves (b, abt, 1765) who is listed in the Greenville, SC, Census of 1790. He married Nancy Goodwin, of Pendleton County area. Her family moved into Trigg and Christian Counties in Kentucky. James and Nancy moved to Christian County, KY, between 1790 and 1800. He appears on land records for both Sinking Fork and Piney Fork Treadwaters. Later this family moved to Gallatin Co. Illinois and then into Obion,TN area. Descendents moved into southwestern Arkansas and the I.T. by 1850. Nancy Goodwin Reeves was deceased by 1841, as proven by her father's will. There were ten children born to this line: Susan, Jesse Goodwin, William, Samuel, Urias, Elizabeth, Leah, Lettie, Nancy, Bethel Chester. Does this line sound familiar? The 1790 Greenwood Census shows both James and John Reeves. Are these folks related to your line? John may have been a brother who remained in S. Carolina. I would love to connect them and find out their ancestry. 3. I received a couple good suggestions on my last query about Luther Reeves and his employer. I also copied the Registration form into my photo program and played with it. It appears the employer was MidWest Refining Co., and the location was somewhere in Natrona, WY. Makes sense, did a Google search on MidWest Refinning Co., and it did have oil camps in Natrona County, WY. Apparently had a headquarters there, among many other places. Also, Standard Oil of Indiana purchased MidWest Refining Co. in Illinois, not sure where the Illinois location was, yet. Guess, I have a lot of researching to do. Kind of exciting. Now, I wonder what kind of engineer he was. For the railroad in transporting of oil/gas or more in the scientific research field of locating the oil fields??? Questions bring answers and the answers bring many more questions. Thought I would relate this in case someone else came across a reference to the Midwest Refining Co. in their family search. Anyone know how I can find out who the employer would have been? Thanks. Ed Crabtree - Missouri, USA [email protected] All outgoing messages checked by McAfee VirusScan
