For all of those that would like to know more about DNA can subscribe to their publications at no cost. It offers many links to other site with more information. Link to subscribe to Facts & Genes: _http://www.familytreeDNA.com/fgregister.asp_ (http://www.familytreeDNA.com/fgregister.asp) I hope everyone will subscribe and try to learn more about this very interesting subject and some of the things that are going on. Strides are being made every day to discover new and different information to help the genealogist. Please look at this and hope you will subscribe and then join our project. We need everyone we can get to help prove our different lines. We need several from each line to have more solid proof of the line. There has been an upset in my husbands line. It has long been rumor about this one family that lived practically on the NC/SC line. Many people thought they descended from this line. Even thought he was in PA and then migrated from that area to NC. he may have migrated but it looks like now the ones in that line now have to rearrange their thoughts on where the line started in the new country. It also means many who thought they were from that line aren't... Even the men that handle the results thought they knew this line would be a part of the Marsh Creek settlements in PA but it doesn't look like that now. Maybe distantly related. So DNA does play a big roll in helping to find the correct line. But as I said we need more from each line to be tested. Please consider it and join. Beulah
Anne, Thanks for taking the time to check on this. I did a little research on my lunch break today as well, but didn't really find anything new. Since he died in 1936 and the Knox Reeves Advertising Company was bought out several years ago by a bigger company, there are probably not too many people around that know much about him first hand. I am the last male in Sherman's line and he was the only male to survive long enough to have a family. So it would appear the direct Reeves line stops with me. We live outside Cincinnati OH having moved here about eight years ago from New Jersey. Great to hear from you. Thanks for your response, Paul! I appreciate you checking for me. I'm really stumped with Maretta Reeves because I don't know her father's name. I'm hoping someday somebody can give me that information. Diane, I've never run across a Maretta Reeves or a Rufus Griffin in my searching for my family's lineage. I tried a few sites such as Rootsweb and LDS, but didn't get any hits on that combination of names. About the only thing I found on the internet was what you probably already know - a list of their children at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/AFHA/2000-10/0971940899 I'll stay alert for Maretta, and if I do see that name I think it will ring a bell with me, as that's an unusual spelling. Sorry I can't be of any help. Paul, Do you know anything about Maretta J. Reeves? She was from Georgia and was probably born in the 1850's. I don't know her parents' names. All I know is she married Rufus Marion Griffin from NC and then her offspring up to my generation. I'd appreciate any information, if you have it. Thanks, Diane Blodgett --- Paul Reeves <[email protected]> wrote: > My lineage goes back to Robert Ryves, b. 1490 in > England, but linkage to all > ancestors born prior to 1769 was documented by other > researchers, and not me > personally. Listers, Tommie Smith posted a message on April 28 about my joining the Reeves DNA Project (Family Line # 34977) and the possibility of a common ancestor. I am looking forward to the results of my DNA test to determine if there are any links to the current database. Tommie stated that she has been trying to unravel the relationships of Malakiah, Leroy, Littleton, Thompson and John Reeves for some time (Tommie - I believe you and I exchanged emails on this topic a few years ago). I have spent years on this same relationship but not made much progress. I know a fair amount about Leroy Reeves after 1832, but have not been able to establish his parents. Regarding Littleton, a few years ago I exchanged information with a person from Oklahoma who descended from Littleton. He stated that his branch of the family migrated to Arkansas County, Arkansas where Littleton's daughter, Cynthia, married his Great Grandfather. This correspondent, however, was stuck trying to establish the parents of Littleton. I am pleased to communicate with anyone interested in this line and will share all information that I possess. Regards, Richard Reeves
Jan: We may be in the same line.. This is undocumented, but I have a Benjamin Reeves, b 23 June 1783, the eldest child of Austin Smith Reeves (1757-1820) and Abigail Mason (1755-1817). The seventh child was George Reeves (b 9 Mar 1794 Mason Cty KY, d 1853 Cincinnati), who was my 2great grandfather. I was sent an obit an obituary for Austin B. Reeves.. Austin B. REEVES, farmer and stock-raiser, is a son of Benjamin and Nancy Reeves, the former a native of Virginia, the latter of Kentucky. Austin S. REEVES, grandfather of our subject, as a Revolutionary soldier, and Benjamin REEVES was a hero of the war of 1812. In 1820, he came to this county, passing down the Ohio in a flat-boat he had built. As a result of his industry, he acquired 160 acres, and made a good home from the virgin land. He was a Whig, and died February, 1846, aged sixty-six; his wife passed away seven years previous, aged fifty-four years. They were the parents of nine daughters and two sons. Austin B. REEVES was born in Van Buren Township August 27, 1829, and the eldest son of the family. He was brought up to industry and to farming. When seventeen years old, was left an orphan, and became an apprentice to blacksmithing; served nearly four years, and received only board and clothes. Later, he purchased the homestead farm, and devoted his time to agriculture. In 1882, he sold this farm and purchased his present home. August 5, 1854, he married Arabelle I. PAULEY, of this county, and to this union seven children came to bless it, six of whom are living - Garrison P., Flora B., Mary H., John Mc., B. Colfax and Austin M. Mr. REEVES is a liberal and worthy citizen, a Republican, and a member of the Patrons of Husbandry. Mrs. REEVES is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
