    3. Tommie, Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. We both were pleasantly surprised by the match. I contacted my cousin Melba Reeves Mitchell (our family historian) and discussed the match with her. She has spent over 20 years researching our family lines and gathering information all that time with anything that any family member would share with her. As you can imagine, she saved a ton of material, never throwing anything away. Now she is busy going back over the material to see what she can find that will help us work with Johnie to fill in the missing pieces. We are off on a never ending adventure. Just about the time you are ready give up something comes together for us. I will enjoy watching Barry,Beulah and yourself discover your missing pieces as well, good hunting ;) Lee Reeves -----Original Message----- From: Tommie Smith [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, May 24, 2005 12:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [REEVES] Immigrant Ancestors Lee I am very happy for you and Johnie Reeves. Hi Frank, Yes, the Davis DNA Project can be found at the link below. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=V89457&special=True&proje cttype=S Oh and by the way Frank, if you have a male Reeves cousin or uncle, etc, you can still participate in the Reeves DNA Project through them. Just a thought. Good luck in your research. 1. no one to DNA test, I am from Wm Reeves B. 1802, Ross County, Ohio
    2. I have one cousin in my area who is not interested in the DNA listing so I am hoping someone will spot a relative in my e mails and contact me that there is a match in the DNA tests. Richard Reeves of PA, son John D. Reeves B. 1780 married Mary Dill , B. 1780 in Belfast,Ireland (parents were Mathew Dill, B. Ireland and Mary ? B. Ireland)Mathew and Mary had James,Thomas, Matthew, Mary, John, Ann (Nancy) and Sarah. James married Jean Armstrong in 1743. James and Jean had Matthew, Mary, Margaret, Thomas, James,jr.,William, Rebecca, Jean, Armstrong, John and Robert. Thomas married Rebecca Hamilton when he returned to Ireland. They had two children in Ireland, James and Mary, the rest born in PA, near Harrisburg, probably Dillsburg. Rest of children were Eleanor, Margaret, Robert, John, Nancy, Thomas, Rebecca, Jane Isabelle, Andrew, Hamilton and Charlotte. Mary, married John D. Reeves, B. 1780 in PA.,son of Richard Reeves. Mary and John D. Reeves migrated to Ohio. Then later to Indiana, Lafayette. Children of Mary and John D. Reeves were Phoebe who married Richard Shanks, Stephen, William who married Rebecca Wells, Thomas married Nancy Jane Lloyd, Rebecca who married Thomas Andrews. My line then comes from William who married Rebecca Wells, their marriage was in Ross County, Ohio 5 Jan 1832. their Children were Nathan Teter Reeves, Mary Ellen, Susannah, John, James Levi Reeves, Pheby, Nancy J., Rose Ellen, Malinda, Gerve (Jarvis), Rebecca and William Jr.. 2. While looking at the postings concerning the DNA matches, I was very surprised to see that you are descended from Green REEVES. My husband is also a descendant of his. He is from the line of Green REEVES son, Alexander Marion REEVES (the "Blue Belly"). I recently sent you a letter wondering if you had further information on the REEVES line. I didn't know you had an e-mail address. I have not had any luck following the line of Green REEVES, and wondered if you had any further information on him or his wife, Sarah Jane Johnson. I do know that one of Sarah's grandaughters (Matilda FRIEND) was the one that was scalped by Indians in Legion Valley. It would be wonderful to correspond with you concerning the REEVES line. 2. All of us are so pleased to see these matches come through. It is an exciting experience. I hope more will join our project soon. Right now we have 281 subscribed to the Reeves list and Digest. I am sure there are many lines but also many matches just waiting to be discovered. DNA is a tool of finding those matches and you know it is correct. With that many subscribe to the list and digest I am hoping there will soon be many more joining our project. Good luck and hope both of you make a lot progress on your lines. Be sure to keep us up to date. There may others that can pick up on your family line and be a part of group. I hope so. Lee Reeves 18952 -----Original Message----- From: Barry Reeves [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, May 22, 2005 8:56 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [REEVES] Immigrant Ancestors All, I haven't seen much activity lately so I thought I would throw something out for discussion. One of the primary goals of the Reeves DNA project is to form groups based upon matches of the DNA test results. The test results along with the combined documentation of the participants of each group would then be used to make the best determination as to the most recent common ancestor. A possible next step would be to connect to the immigrant ancestor for each group assuming that the most recent common ancestor wasn't the immigrant ancestor. From there we would try to make the jump to England, Ireland or wherever the immigrant ancestor came from. As a point of reference, I did a search through my database in an attempt to identify any individuals with one of our surnames that appeared to be an immigrant to America. Here are a few names that I found. Edward REAVIS (b. 1680 England - d. 1751 North Carolina) married Hannah Alley. Arrived in America prior to 1713. Thomas REEVE (b. 1624 England - d. 1682 Long Island, New York) married Mary Purrier. Arrived in America prior to 1645. Walter REEVES (b. 1650 England - d. 1697 New Jersey) married Ann E. Howell. Arrived in America about 1680. William RYVES (b. 1636 England - d. 1695 Virginia) married Elizabeth (Unknown). Arrived in America about 1652. Does anyone know of any others? Does your research indicate that you descend from one of these individuals? More DNA test results are on the way. Let's keep the momentum going. 3. Anne, That's great. You really did some digging for that. I looked at the census records and both 1920 and 1930 were pretty obvious mistakes in how they were indexed. They looked a lot more like Reeves than Reever or Resner, but I can also see how someone could mistakenly interpret the hand writing. I really appreciate you taking the time to find this information. I will pass it along to the researcher. Best Regards, Barry Reeves -----Original Message----- From: Anne Leggett McDonald [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2005 8:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [REEVES] re: O. The death certificate may contain information that is not in the index (this was the case for a 1933 certificate that I ordered). Also, I found him in the 1930 census by searching on the first name Knox (there are a surprising number of people named Knox across the country that year, but not too many in Minnesota!), and his last name was mistranscribed as Reever. The entry is: 87 N. Prior Ave, St. Paul: Reeves Knox head $40 45 M 30 MN MN MN advertising man refrigerators, Elizabeth wife 36 saleslady retail book, Jane dau 10 After that heady success ;>) I found him in 1920 indexed as Resner.... 775 Fairmont Ave, St. Paul, St. Paul: Reeves Knox head 26 IA IA IA asst. mgr paper, Elizabeth wife 24 MN NY NY, Jane dau 9/12 MN IA MN, Dolezal Francis J brother-in-law 30 im 1904 nat 1917 Austria Bohemia Bohemia accountant, Jeannette sister-in-law MN NY NY I'm guessing that Iowa is correct, rather than Minnesota. Birth records there, and marriage records in St. Paul should be helpful. Can't be many people named Dolezal getting married, so should be possible to track down Elizabeth's birth name that way.... --Anne ==== REEVES Mailing List ==== To UNSUBSCRIBE: email <[email protected]> and write only the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message - nothing is needed in the subject line.
