Richard, I am only answering this to the list as you seem to want it that way. I try to keep unpleasant things off the list. I hope this reply will end it, if not please do so by emailing me personally. You could become a good resource for your line by posting verified information and back it up with proven documents or where you can find the documents. You have to be willing to share your information, not with just a few, but with the masses, to help correct the untruths. This is for everyone on the list. We all have sat back waiting for someone else to post information to help us. But more will be accomplished if we all post information. Tell the source. Then they can look it up for themselves. Then if you disagree do so in a polite manner, If the source isn't given, ask where it was found. It is unfortunate, but true, there is a lot of false information floating around, not only online but in books, any source that is out there can be false and everyone has to prove their line with documents as best they can. Not just what others have written but legal documents. Land deeds, wills, etc., and use books as a starting place. But you will find some errors in documents. Not everyone could write in years past and someone else did it for them and they might be the best in spelling etc. Also human errors (we all make them). That is one reason for a DNA program. That is something that doesn't lie. It should help in some way to correct a multitude of errors that have been out there for years in almost every surname. DNA has really broken down many old myths about some surnames. So, my answer is lets all help each other to find the truth. <Being old isn't an excuse. I am not old as I am only 81 years young> Beulah One other thing, I have asked several times for everyone to post their documents online in the state it was found where it will be free for everyone. You can do so on rootsweb pages for each state and county in the USA. Then they are in the state that the event occur and those that can not travel to other states it would help so very, very much. Also it is so costly to travel to other states and to have them sent to you is also costly. Thanks. I will get off the soapbox now. Beulah: I would have preferred that you chastise me in the list, rather than privately. The rest of the group has a right to know that you are unhappy with my message. I know that I am often blunt in my emails, but I do not consider my message to be in an way out of order. Carol Suny has taken the message as a personal attack, which it was not and was not meant to be (for this I apologize). Carol unfortunately has identified too closely with this list, and therefore is understandably angry. I just hope she is angry enough to follow through on verifying the data. My beef is not with Carol, it is with the originator of the list, C. Clay. I for one am just about fed up with the constant bombardment of irresponsible information that is circulated on the Internet. I will be happy to reserve any further comments I may have for the few serious researchers with whom I have had the pleasure of making contact. I am too old and too much of an arrogant SOB to change my ways or soften my dialogue . Do you still want me to participate on your DNA project? Richard

Walter I Reeves, if the son of the cited Thomas Reeve, would have to have been born at some other time than 1654, unless we put Mary Purrier's marriage as early as 1643, making her 14 or 15 at the time. The 1654 (or thereabouts) date also conflicts with the proposed dates of Thomas's sons, Thomas and James. Also, there is no evidence of a Walter Reeves in Southold in the middle 1650s when records existed. I tried to send a return e mail concerning the message you had taken care of this matter (the strongly worded disagreement about my input) and it came back undeliverable, so I am trying to send it again with my appreciation for helping me. I am in the process of e mailing submitters with latest dates on each person and so far they bear out that all is true as they know it. It makes me feel that I cannot trust ancestry or the input people after this rude response. I have information, from the Mormons, mainly at their library here in Mesa, that traces the Reeves back to the Plantagenets. Someday I will get around to working that through. Carol [email protected]

Ancestry.com, World Family Tree. It was very, very easy to trace. Did not furnish the first 4 Reeves birth or deaths. But it is a start. Carol

I am interested in what documentation you have that Walter Reeve was born in NY. I have found this stated before but have never found any proof. I descend from Walter also but through his son, Walter Jr. My family has kept the spelling, Reeve, with out the s although I find that for one general it was used. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that is able to document Walter Reeve's ancestors. Hello, I am searching for a connection to my great grandfather, Thomas "Tom" Jefferson Reeves, born in Georgia June 15, 1825. He married Mary Buckner (born 7/29/1826 in Jones Co., GA.), daughter of Wiley (1779-1866) and Judith Tapley Buckner (1782-1855) who eventually settled in Talbot County, Georgia. Thomas Jefferson Reeves died 7/18/1875 and is buried in the Buckner Cemetery near Junction City, Georgia in Talbot County. Mary Buckner Reeves died after 1900 and is buried adjacent to Thomas in the Buckner Cemetery. They had five children: 1. John Leonard Reeves, born ca. 1852, listed on the 1860 census of Talbot County. I can find no further information on John. 2. Elizabeth "Bettie" Reeves, born 4/5/1855 in Talbot Co., GA. She married Charles Melvin 11/15/1883 in Taylor County. Elizabeth died 9/20/1949 in Milledgeville, GA., Baldwin County, and was buried in the Juliette Cemetery in Jones County. We do not know where Charles Melvin is buried. 3. Wiley B. Reeves, born 4/22/1858. Married Martha "Mattie" Byers in Buena Vista, Marion County, GA. Wiley died ca. 1917 in Houston County, Texas and is buried in the Salem Cemetery near Weldon, Texas. Mattie Byers Reeves (1856 - 1935) is buried in the Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Hilliard, Florida. 4. Martha Dranny Reeves, was born 11/30/1860. She married Samuel J. Byers 11/22/1877 in Taylor County, GA. Martha died 11/20/1897 and is buried in the Buckner Cemetery, Talbot Co., GA. near Junction City. Samuel J. Byers (1858-1936) is buried adjacent to Martha in the Buckner Cemetery. 5. Edward "Ed" Lafayette Thomas Reeves, born 9/6/1863. Married (1st) Lou Lawrence ca. 1885/86. Lou passed away 3/4/1897 and is buried with an infant child in the Buckner Cemetery, Talbot County. Edward Reeves married (2nd) Linnie Vann 7/17/1898 in Taylor County. They came to Houston County, Texas. Edward died 3/6/1923 and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery located between Lovelady & Weldon in Houston County, Texas. Linnie Vann Reeves (3/15/1877 - 11/17/1962) is buried adjacent to Edward in the Antioch Cemetery. There is a marriage record in the Talbot County Marriage Records of a marriage between Thomas Jefferson Reaves/Reeves and Mary Ann Harral dated 2/15/1848. I do not know if this is my Thomas Jefferson Reeves and he was married to a Mary Harral prior to his marriage to Mary Buckner. I have never been able to find the marriage certificate between my Thomas Jefferson Reeves and Mary Buckner. I don't know if Mary Ann Harral's name was listed in error and it should have been Mary Ann Buckner. Mistakes did happen. Would love to hear from anyone who has information on T.J. Reeves of Talbot and Taylor County, GA. I would love to know who his parents were.
Hello List, While researching Sacramento, California, ancestors I happened to come across this Reeves article and it's very interesting. Hope someone out there may belong to this branch. Mine is a Georgia branch............. This is a very exciting read...........And very informative....Hope someone out there can use this! "Between the dates of October 2, 1955 and March 27, 1956, all of the human remains were removed from the old Helvetia Cemetery, formerly known as the New Helvetia Cemetery to various other cemeteries. In two instances, remains were interred in crypts at East Lawn Cemetery. When the REEVES Vault (underground) at New Helvetia Cemetery was opened, on March 5, 1956, it was found to contain remains of two adults and six small children and according to old records, one small infant placed in case with the mother. Two of the caskets were iron and they carried the names of the father: JOHN WESLEY REEVES, and 18 month old, ELLA T. REEVES. Old records in these books show the following: John Wesley Reeves age 40 yrs, died September 5, 1867; REBECCA JANE REEVES, (1st wife) age 30 yrs., died Feb. 18, 1863; Ella T. Reeves, age 18 mos., dtr. of J.W. and LIZZIE, died Feb. 18, 1866; Charlie Reeves, age 9 mo 2 days died Oct. 13, 1857; Frank L.
