Sue, I'm sorry that I can't answer your question, but I'm wondering if your Archibald Reeves is the father of my great great grandmother, Maretta Jane Reeves. She was from Covington, Newton Co., GA (according to my grandmother) and married Rufus M. Griffin. Maretta Jane was born in 1849. I think they moved to Randolph Co., Alabama. I dont have anything to go by except the Name of my Great Grandmother Ellen Reeves, and the name of her husband Frank Colman, who was from Boston Mass., and that she was from Ireland and that her son Paul Colman was born in Yuma Arizona, and Married at 23 in 1919, San Francisco, (which is where I got the info - on a marraige licence) so she might have been born around 1865-70. This is all I have. I cannot access my grandfathers birth certificate so wonder if he was adopted. I cannot find any other info. Would any one be related to an Ellen Reeves? Thank you, Eleanore

For those who are interested and searching their roots in the south this might be of interest. Beulah Jefferson Davis' Biloxi Home Beauvoir Reported "Demolished" by Hurricane Beauvoir, the last home of Jefferson Davis, was reported late Tuesday to be "virtually demolished" by Hurricane Katrina. The Jackson, MS, Clarion Ledger said that the historic building has been "reduced to rubble and a frame of a house." The house was located on the north side of Beach Boulevard, across from a number of "barge style" casinos. One of the closest, the President Casino, was lifted whole from its mooring pillars and transported across the highway where it came to rest crushing a Holiday Inn. The house, constructed in 1854, was dedicated in 1998 as the "Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum." After Davis' death Beauvoir evolved first into the Jefferson Davis Soldiers' Home, serving as a hospital and residence for disabled Confederate veterans and their dependents. The Beauvoir Confederate Cemetery is located at the extreme northwest corner of the estate and contains over 750 graves. One of them is Sam Davis, father of Jefferson Davis, whose body was moved there when the Mississippi River threatened his original gravesite at Hurricane Plantation. The Beauvoir cemetery is also the home of the Grave of the Unknown Confederate Soldier in an above-ground granite shrine. No reports on its condition are available. Another nearby burial ground, Southern Memorial Park, had its mausoleum torn open by the force of the onrushing water, and witnesses told the Clarion-Ledger that numerous caskets were strewn about the grounds. Most "burials" in the area are above-ground entombments due to difficulties with the high water table. The home and grounds have been open to the public since 1957. In 1969 Beauvoir survived Hurricane Camille but the museum, at that time in the basement of the house, was severely flooded. The Library cottage suffered severe damage from that storm. Both had since been rebuilt.

Should have mentioned in earlier email that the girls parents were Thomas Reeves and Rosannah [--?--]. He was born ca 1780 North Carolina died sometime between August 16 and October 6 1838 in Green County, Alabama (court records). Married Rosannah ca 1808. She was born 1780/1790 Ireland. Died 1842/43 (before 17 January 1843 per appraisers records of her personal property) in Greene County, Alabama. There was also another sister (no details beyond the following). Elizabeth Reeves "Betsy" born ca 1809; died unknown. Married September 23, 1826 Greene County, Alabama to James A. Thatch - Marriage Book A page 51. I so agree, The thought of all those who could not get out tears at my heart, Sue
I know we have some of our group that live in the Gulf region where Katrina came ashore. We do hope and pray all are safe and were able to leave the bad areas before the storm hit. As soon as you have power we look forward to having you back. Beulah
So good to hear you can get back....I'm at a standstill with Asa b. approx1794-1802...son: Hiram....Asa in Pickens 1830-50 census; then I can't find him anywhere in 1860....Hiram is there 1850 and then reappears1870.... Both died in the 1880 (1881 & 1887) in Pickens, SC. Just info in case you cross the names. You do an outstanding job! There would be quite a few family trees to trace and that is our eventual goal to go as far back as we can. All of it depends on which line you are a descendant. There are quite a few Reeves lines. I go only so far with my line and am working on each generation really before I jump too far ahead of myself. I know what has been printed but I have to do it to my satisfaction. Beulah
Hi I wonder if there is a family tree dating back to the first known Reeves either in England or Ireland? that would be so helpful
I wish we could have a report on the progress made at the conference. It would be very helpful to our list subscribers. It might be too far for most to travel I am sure. All of the subscribers would be most appreciative of any concepts and information that is made available. Beulah
Descendants of Henry Reeves, Sr. (the immigrant) c 1630-1686, mark your calendars... There will be a conference held on October 2nd and 3rd, 2005, in Essex County, VA. Anyone interested in this line of the Reeves family is welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be several longtime Reeves researchers in attendance and we are very excited about getting together to compare data and consider theories... Any questions or interest in attending please contact Carole Waters [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) 703.527.6030 or David LeRoux [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) 804.550.0523

Tommie and others, I checked out the unit that my Rufus Marion Griffin fought with during the Civil War and found Archibald Reeves and Thomas Reeves in the same "unit"--the 1st Alabama Cavalry, which, as a Northerner, I'm happy to say was on the Union side. I think Archibald may be the brother of Tommie's "Thompson". What do you think, Tommie? Also, do you know which unit Archibald and Thompson fought in?
