Not a particularly popular piece of legislation, the effort to collect statewide vital records failed. However, there are a few extant birth, marriage, and death records for 1875-1876. Abstracted here are the marriage records for Sumter County. Although few in number they contain a wealth of information -- names of parents, ages, and place of birth (the latter was not included in this abstracting project).
