Hello All, I am researching the family of Luther Reed, who bought land in what became Brown County, Ohio. He bought the land in 1804 in both Adams and Clermont Counties, on connecting plots on the line between the counties. When Brown County was formed in 1818 from Adams and Clermont Counties, the land was in the middle of Brown County. Luther died about 1818 and his estate is found in the tax list for 1818. His widow, Hannah and Ezekiel Thorpe were the executors. (I believe Hannah the sister of Ezekiel Thorpe). They had three sons, Luther Jr. (More info after the other two) John T. Reed (1807-1869) married Ann Abbot, no children Charles W. Reed (b. aft 1807) He was a Justice of the peace and is believed to have moved to Kentucky. Luther Jr. mentioned above, (1808-1879) married Minerva (?) from Maine. They had three boys all in Brown County, Ohio. 1. Ezekiel T. Reed (More Later) 2. Luther M. Reed (sometimes called Martin L. Reed) remained in Brown County, Had 9 children by Elizabeth Dunn (1838-1871) who died in childbirth, and 5 more by Pauline Jane McClanahan (1846-1922). 3. Abner Reed (1842-1899) remained in Brown County, and had 7 children with Sarah Ellen Rhodes. Ezekiel T. Reed mentioned above, first married Isabella Rishforth and had 5 children by her. a. Minerva Reed married Jacob Arn and remained in Brown County, having 7 children. b. Clara Belle Reed, died of consumption at the age of 15. c. John Franklin Reed who married Martha Wright (the sister of his father's second wife). They had 5 children in Shelby Co., Missouri, and later moved to Tacoma, Washington. d. Charles M Reed, (only lost Reed of the family). He is said to have moved to Texas and died there while working the fields. e. Jenny Reed died at birth. Ezekiel then married Elvira Wright in 1872 and in 1879 they moved to Shelby Co, Missouri, Elvira's childhood home, and then took a homestead in West Plains, Howell Co. Missouri. Ezekiel who had 5 children, 2 dead, 1 married, took the other 2 to Missouri along with the first part of the eventual 14 more children Elvira gave birth to. That's right, 19 children. (Elvira was one of 13 and her father was one of 22 children.) Wanted to post this to help anyone who has been researching Reed family and Wright family members. Most of the children end up in either Tacoma, Washington, Spokane, Washington or northern, Idaho. Anyone with information on Luther's ancestors, or descendants of others listed above should contact me. Thank you. Ron Mosher.
