There was a John Reed/Reid in Orange Co., NC in 1787 when he married an Eliza Tate. Her brother James Tate was bondsman for this marriage. Later James Tate married and John Reed was his bondsman. I have some information on the Tates but can't find anything on this John Reed, but hope he is my John Clement Reid/Read/Reed, father of Jesse Reid (b.1803 Wake Co., NC)--Jesse Reid lived most of his life in Guilford Co. Betty, Did any of your Reed connections go to MO in the 1800s? I have a John Reed 1840s whose gggrandfather Thomas moved to MO in the early 1800s from TN, family orig from Wales. I don't know where they first settled in the U.S. before going to TN. I noticed in other postings there was a Robert Reed in Rutherford Co TN on a Land Transfer. There are so many named John Reed that maybe if your John Reed is not related, it's one to eliminate, which helps sometimes. Trying to locate where the MO Reeds cam from. Hope you find John Clement.
