Hello Reed Listers, This is my first visit to the list. I'm looking for more details of my g g grandfather William REED (or READ as in the 1881 census) b c 1806 in Whitby, his wife Mary and William's father possibly John. According to the 1851 census William and Mary were all together in Shadwell and the family comprised:- Mary (nee ??) b c 1811 Sheffield Anna b c 1830 Sheffield Emma Louise b c 1835 Cranford Northants James b c 1835/6 Cranford Northants Ambrose Jr b c 1838 Windon in the Woods Northants Clara b c 1844 Shadwell Robert b c 1846 Shadwell/Ratcliff The family travelled, as it grew, from Whitby to Northants via Sheffield and then to London. James had a cousin in Northants, Frederick b c 1831 Islip, and his father possibly Richard b c 1801 Islip would have been William's brother. Their father could be a John b c 1771 but I cannot prove it yet. Any assistance on where to look next, including a look-up in the 1841 census for Whitby, would be gratefully appreciated.
