By any chance does this book show an Elizabeth Reed, daughter of Jeremiah Reed? Jeremiah Reed was married twice and his first wife was a Wade, and his second was Frances (Fanny) Hafley. They had severall children and Jeremiah and his first wife had 3 or 4. Thanks wrakj

Frances "Fannie" Hafley, wife of Jeremiah Reed, was the daughter of Conrad Cornelius Hafley and Mary Elizabeth Miser. She was of German descent, not Native American. I descend from Frances' brother, David Hafley, who was apparently the first of the family born in Washington County, Tennessee in 1788. Their older siblings were born in Pennsylvania. Jerry W. Does anyone have access to any kind of an index of the Northumberland 1841 Census? I think there are 2 Robert REED families, and both may be married to a Dorothy. One may be in North Shields, and the other may be in Newcastle. The father would be a seaman or mariner. There would be a son also named Robert aged about 10. There seems to be a birth in 1830 for a Robert REED, son of Robert REED and Dorothy STOREY, in North Shields, and a christening in 1831 in Newcastle for a Robert REED, son of Robert REED and Dorothy (probably HEAVISIDE maiden name). Thanks to anyone who can help. Ed Scriven

Astraford, (Anna), Jeremiah and Fanny Hafley Reed are my GG Grandparents also. I believe their home place to be in McMinn Co Tn. However I do have some proof they had a hom e there and raised their children there. How is James B. related to you? I also have his military papers and do believe John came to Texas with him after his wife died in McMinn Co.(James B.'s wife) I also have pictures of all the stones, also found a Jeremian Reed in Tx. at one time but do not believe it to be our Jeremiah, due to the papers I found on them. Have you been to Nashville, Tn. and looked at the records there? You will find much information on them on the Bible Records. From there we drove on to McMinn Co. and found the papers that were there. That is a georgeous place and those mountains, trees, and all the different colors were just mind boggling. The people were so friendly and helpful also. After we visited the cemetery and saw how unkept just that section was where they were buried, and the trees were grown up in the center and had knocked so many stones over, and broken. I was just overwhelmed with anxiety. Huge heavy bushes had been allowed to grow up in the front of the stones and it just made me angry. When I got home I wrote an email to find out why their names were not in the record of the cemetery book. They answered my email and told me it would be take care of as I had just written just in time for them to add an addendum for them to be in the new reprint of the one they were beginning to reprint. After it was reprinted they contacted me and I did order the cemetery record book and they were listed. The man couldn't understand why they were not in there as all of them were in plain sight. They are there now in case you do not have a new one, order it and you will have it. I really do not remember corresponding with you but if you say I did then I am sure I did. Hopefully we will be able to do more this time. We have had so many deaths in our families and cousins and more cousins. It seems they are all dying out. We have been up there, (Athens) several times since then. That place is just beautiful and I would love to live there if we were younger. We have a daughter in Tn. and they have 2 pieces of land and they want us to move up there, but I haven't talked my husband into it yet. They have Tn. walkers and go riding with a group from time to time. We are too old for that but we visit almost every year and love it. Sometimes twice a year. It is hard for them to get away to come here but they do from time to time. We sure do enjoy them. Her husband can do and does do almost anything. If she wants something done he will do it. They bought an old old house and have and still are redoing it from time to time. It looks so much different than it did. It is a 2 story and was built in the late 1800's I think or early 1900's. They love it and continue doing things to it from time to time. They now have 4 bedrooms, 3 bath rooms and a beautiful kitchen, LR and DR laundry room computer office room and all kinds of closets and storage spaces, a huge pantry and the roominess is just wonderful. (We don't have that much space and I wish we did. We are just too old to have to begin on another one right now anyway.) We just continue having something done when we need it. Didn't mean to get carried away. Are you on Mary Francis Banks side of the family? We have also been down there to see where the graves were at their homeplace but so far have never found it. Maybe some other day. lw
Hello, I know that three of this John Reed's sons--Thomas, Nathan and Edward--migrated from Pennsylvania to Bement, Illinois and then to Cook County, Illinois between 1870 and 1880. Does that seem familiar? I have never seen a reference to NC or VA.
