Hello Listers, Can anyone tell me please where I might find details of a Christening for a James REED on 23 May 1841 at St Leonard's Shoreditch. His parents were William and Elizabeth REED but I cannot find any of them in the 1841 census and I'm hoping the Christening details might give me an address. Hello Listers, I have been looking for James REED in the 1841 census and some new details from IGI have been found which might just help. Although James was born in Cranford, Northamptonshire c 1835/6 there is a Christening for a James REED on 23 May 1841 at St Leonard's Shoreditch. He can be found with his parents and siblings in the 1851 census at 10 High Street Shadwell, details below. The family moved from Yorkshire to London via Northamptonshire and searches of the 1841 for Sheffield and Northants have drawn a blank. If this is the same James REED as in the 1851 census and as he was Christened in May 1841 there is a very strong likelihood that the family had arrived in London by the time of the 1841 census, in June, and I would appreciate some help please on finding James REED and hopefully all of family with four children in the 1841 census. In the 1851 census on (HO107/1550) the REEDs are at 10 High Street Shadwell:- William b c 1806 in Whitby Yorkshire - Occupation "Master of Dining Rooms"? Elizabeth (nee BUNTING) b c 1811 Sheffield married 3 March 1828 Rotherham Ann b c 1830 Sheffield Emma Louise b c 1835 Cranford, Northamptonshire James b c 1836 Cranford, Northamptonshire Ambrose Jnr b c 1838 Windon in the Woods, Northamptonshire Clara b c 1844 Shadwell, Middlesex Robert W b c 1847 Shadwell, Middlesex plus three lodgers and a servant. Hello Listers, I would appreciate some help please on finding my REED family in the 1861 and 1871 censuses. They appear in the 1851 and 1881 as below but try as I may on Ancestry I cannot find any trace of them in between. Where might they be? James appears as below in 1851, 1881, 191 and 1901 censuses and he definitely is not the James Read b c 1834 Islip, Northants appearing in 1871 (RG9/959). In the 1851 census on (HO107/1550) they are at 10 High Street Shadwell:- William b c 1806 in Whitby Yorkshire - Occupation "Master of Dining Rooms"? Elizabeth (nee BUNTING) b c 1811 Sheffield married 3 March 1828 Rotherham Ann b c 1830 Sheffield Emma Louise b c 1835 Cranford, Northamptonshire James b c 1836 Cranford, Northamptonshire Ambrose Jnr b c 1838 Windon in the Woods, Northamptonshire Clara b c 1844 Shadwell, Middlesex Robert W b c 1847 Shadwell, Middlesex plus three lodgers and a servant. Two of the boys are in 1881 (RG11/1721) at 45 Trevelyan Road (Stratford/Forest Gate) West Ham as:- James b c 1836 Cranford, Northamptonshire - Occupation Stonemason Robert W b c 1847 Shadwell, Middlesex - Occupation Stonemason James appears to have married late in life and appears in 1891 (RG12/287) census at 96 Lucas Road St George in the East as:- Jas Read b c 1836 Cranford, Northamptonshire - Stonemason, with wife Mary Ann and stepson William Thurston. James appears again in 1901 (RG13/238) as (Stonemason) an Inmate at St Giles in the Fields and St George Bloomsbury Workhouse. Dear Listers, I am trying to sort out my Yorkshire ancestors and would appreciate a bit of help please. The tree so far:- The 1851 census gives my gg grandfather as William REED b c 1806 Whitby and wife Elizabeth (nee BUNTING from son's birth cert) b c 1811 Sheffield. Pallot's Marriage Registry gives William REED married Elizabeth BUNTING 1828 Rotherham and IGI gives date as 3 Mar 1828. IGI also gives me:- William READ b 8 August 1807 christened 31 Aug 1807 Silver Street Independant Whitby and also gives William READ's parents as Robert READ and Hannah. I also found a marriage on IGI for Robert REED = Hannah HICKMAN 18 May 1800 Whitby. Looking for other REED's I came across:- John REED b 20 Oct 1804 and christened 31 Aug 1807 also at Silver Street Independant Whitby. This is where I need your help please, a general search of IGI for only surname REED but with father Robert REED and mother Hannah gives 40 hits, some are children of Robert and Ann but the others for Robert & Hannah are listed below. Am I looking at several separate families here or could they be related in some way:- Mary READ christened (c) 17 Jul 1785 Scarborough Bts? John REED b 8 Mar 1801 c 12 Apr 1801 Whitby, (brother of John and William above?) Hannah REID c 5 May 1811 Cliff Lane Presbyterian Whitby, Hannah REED c 27 July 1812 Whitby Mary REID c 24 April 1814 Cliff Lane Presbyterian Whitby, Vincent REED c 18 April 1819 Wibsey (could this be Whitby?), Sarah REED c 22 Dec 1822 Wibsey Robert REED c 25 DEC 1824 Wibsey, Thomas READ c 16 Sep 1827 Bradford Elizabeth READ c 5 Dec 1830 Bradford, Ann READ c 6 Feb 1839 Kirkby Moorside and Robinson REED c 13 May 1851 Kirkby Moorside. Hello Listers, Is there any chance please of a look-up in the 1841 census for my gg grand father William REED and his family. When Robert was borne in 1846 they were living at 10 High Street Shadwell. Can anyone help find who was living at this address in 1851 please. Some recent assistatnce from Gay, for which I am grateful, says:- "The index tells me that they are on discs H0107/703 eds 1-9 and 10-14 and H0107/715/4. (This is Wapping) The bad news is that H0107/703 eds 10-14 are not on my cds so Im guessing they must be on the Middlesex census. I have looked through all the pages (226 of them) from 703 1-9 (High street seems to be recorded in parts) and found a number of Reeds but not your guys. There may also be parts of High street on 703 10-14 that I don't have." The two youngest children were born in Shadwell and the family may have moved from Northamptonshire before 1841. They appear in the 1851 census on HO 107 1550 as:- William b c 1806 in Whitby Yorkshire Elizabeth b c 1811 Sheffield Ann b c 1830 Sheffield Emma Louise b c 1835 Northamptonshire James b c 1836 Northamptonshire Ambrose b c 1838 Northamptonshire Clara b c 1844 Shadwell Robert W b c 1847 Shadwell Any help, information or advice will be gratefully appreciated and my thanks are sent in advance. In my Reed research I have an ancestor, James Reed, who was born in Delaware County, Ohio, in July, 1839. He married Anna Sanford and they eventually moved to St. Louis. There were 10 children in this family, probably most of them born in St. Louis-names were: Arthur, Homer, Fanny, Leon, Charles, Grace, May, Clarence, George and William. If anyone has a connection to any of these Reed family members, I'd very much like to hear from you. Census records for St. Louis have been hard to search since I know nothing about the areas where they lived. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Doris Reed Forsyth

I was on the coast of Oregon recently checking out the old cemetery at Gardiner, Douglas County, Oregon, when the word "Hopewell" caught my eye. I found that there was a REED family plot there, with the following burials: Mary A. REED born at Hopewell, New Brunswick 26 Feb 1821, died at Gardiner, Oregon, 11 January 1908 - age 86 years 10 months 16 days W. A. REED, born in Albert, New Brunswick, 14 April 1821, died at Gardiner, Oregon 20 June 1894 Warren P. REED, son of William and Mary A. REED, born at Lubec, Maine 26 October 1857; died at Gardiner, Oregon, 9 October 1874. Elsewhere in the cemetery is another stone for REED (no indication of relationship to those above; no places noted): Ellen REED 18 February 1842 - 25 May 1928 James Wesley REED 9 July 1848 - 31 January 1927 I have a full listing of burials in the Gardiner Cemetery. None others mention New Brunswick or relation to the REEDs, but if you think other relatives might be there, ask me and I'll check. Hello Reed Listers, This is my first visit to the list. I'm looking for more details of my g g grandfather William REED (or READ as in the 1881 census) b c 1806 in Whitby, his wife Mary and William's father possibly John. According to the 1851 census William and Mary were all together in Shadwell and the family comprised:- Mary (nee ??) b c 1811 Sheffield Anna b c 1830 Sheffield Emma Louise b c 1835 Cranford Northants James b c 1835/6 Cranford Northants Ambrose Jr b c 1838 Windon in the Woods Northants Clara b c 1844 Shadwell Robert b c 1846 Shadwell/Ratcliff The family travelled, as it grew, from Whitby to Northants via Sheffield and then to London. James had a cousin in Northants, Frederick b c 1831 Islip, and his father possibly Richard b c 1801 Islip would have been William's brother. Their father could be a John b c 1771 but I cannot prove it yet. Any assistance on where to look next, including a look-up in the 1841 census for Whitby, would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Alan Guildford
