Does anyone own this book (or its CD format) and could tell me if Harmon READ and father Aaron READ is listed in the index? Another Read researcher needs a lookup. He may be crossreferenced as a Pendry (his wife's name).. The Reads and Their Relatives, Being an Account of Colonel Clement and Madam Read of Bushy Forest, Lunenburg County, Virginia, their Eight Children, their Descendants, and Allied Families. This book is written by ALICE READ (MRS. SHELLEY ROUSE), 1930, Johnson & Hardin Press, Cincinnati Betty Pace
I keep looking for Electa Reed born 1800 Ct. She married a McMillan but I don't know whether in Ct or NY where they were living in 1850. She named her daughter Lucy Caroline. Could that have been from her Mother? Just a thought. Josiah Reed born 23 July 1753 MA died in Westfield Vermont in 1804, probably the son of Lt John and Lucy Reed of Mendon Worcester County MA. Josiah's son, Rodolophus Reed, also went to Westfield Vermont which is probably why Josiah went there also. Josiah's wife, Elizabeth unknown, remained in Massachusetts and is believed to have died at Uxbridge in 1819. Wanting to clarify that Josiah Reed who died in Westfield Vermont is the son of Lt John and Lucy Reed as I have found conflicting information which suggests that the Josiah Reed born 23 July 1753 son of Lt John and Lucy Reed married a Betsey Taylor and probably died in MA? Any info appreciated, thank you Janice

The Chariton Patriot Chariton, Iowa Thursday, September 8, 1875 On Thursday evening, Sept. 2nd, 1875, at the residence of MR. RICHARD REED the bride's father near Chariton by the Rev. H. H. Oneal, MR. C.L. JAMES, son of DR. L.R. JAMES of Atlanta, Ill., to MISS EMMA E. REED. The above couple left on the midnight train after being married, for the home of the groom, where in a house well filled, on a farm well tilled the twain will take up their abode. May their sojourn together be a pleasant and profitable one. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert May 1, 2006 iggy29@sbcglobal.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm posted at this site with Nancee's permission.
Looking for the parents of Luther Howe born about 1780 probably MA (maybe Worcester Co). Luther went to Westfield Vermont and married Lydia Reed on the 16 Jan 1842. Luther was considerably older than Lydia, in fact he was the same age as her mother, Sally Hill Reed. I am wondering if his family was connected to the Hill family? Thanks for any info Janice
A genealogy journal recently publicized this web site, which offers photos of individuals from various surnames. I haven't found my particular people, but I am still looking--it takes a while to search for all your surnames. http://www.deadfred.com/ You can search for your surnames. You can also contribute. M.E. jsorensen4@cfl.rr.com Perhaps not the same Electa Reed, but there is an Electa Reed buried in Sand Hill Cemetery in Town of Seneca, Ontario County, NY. She apparently was the daughter of John Taft Reed, and the wife of a Wilson Butcher. My notes have her as being born in 1829 and death on 7 Dec 1891. From Geneva Gazette 18 December 1891 Obituary - The death of Mrs. Wilson Butcher at her home near Stanley on the 7th inst., has caused profound sorrow not only to her immediate family surviving, but to a large circle of other relatives and friends. The deceased was a native of the town of Seneca, a daughter of the late Taft Reed, a family known as among the pioneer settlers of this region. About forty years ago she married a worthy neighbor, Mr. Wilson Butcher, with whom her life has been contented and happy. Two children survive the union, a son and daughter, both comfortably circumstanced. She had been an invalid for two or three years but bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude. Her funeral took place on the 9th inst., interment in Sand Hill cemetery. Her age was 62 years.
I believe I have read some of your postings about Electa Reed on the Madison County list as well. Sometimes it is almost impossible to find people in that time frame, as the records may no longer be there. Good luck with your search. Carol Boggs
I too am looking for Reed of Ct. My grgrgrandmother was Electa Reed born 1800 in Ct. But I have not idea who parents were. It's the same time from of yours. James Reed born March 1841 NH the son of Erastus Reed and Betsey Marks. Seems to have left NH between 1860 and 1870, in 1870 living Lee Centre Ill, believe married in Ill about 1871 to Sarah unknown, she born July 1849 in PA. Four children born to this marriage (source census), couple living in Adams Co., Nebraska in 1900. James died between 1900 and 1910, Sarah living Keith Co., Nebraska in 1910 and Dawson Co Nebraska in 1920. Info on children etc appreciated Janice
James E Reed born about 1839/40 probably in Peterborough NH the son of Erastus B Reed and Betsey Marks. Believe that James is living Lee Centre Illinois in 1870, listed along with his step-mother, Mercy, and possible daughter or sibling, "Lizzie" aged 5 years and born MA. Can't find James after 1870 census, I'm sure he went to Illinois because he had Reed cousins who lived in Ogle County Ill - wondering who he married? Was Lizzie his daughter or sibling? James' father, Erastus B Reed was born Vermont 1809 and he was the son of Rodolphus Reed and Sally Hill. Appreciate any info, thanks Janice
