I am trying to help another person find more about their family history. A Lorraine Alice Byers Reed of Englwood, Fl. submitted some info on the Minor/Miner line. I would to see if she would exchange some more info on this line with a lady friend. She may or may-not been on this list. If you could help in some way, this lady friend sure need some help. Thanks. NOLAN
The name could be spelt Winnie I am not sure due to the fact most of the family who might have known are deceased and the one who gave me the information only knew Winnie. If his wifes name was Mary Ellen it could be my g grandfather and he would have been born sometime in the late 1800's as my grandfather Willard was born in 1908 and supposedly he was the last born of at least nine children. Hi List, When I read about Winnie Reed, I just couldn't resist, being it's a Monday morning :) Everyone can use a laugh to start the day out. Weren't a lot of our ancestors names derived from their occupations? We have a few in our family we refer to newscasters, because no matter what happens, it's broadcasted to all. Connie Reed Specht I can help you obtain information on Daughters of The American Revolution Society or The Sons of The American Revolution Society.
Could the name be Winnie instead of Whinnie Reed buried with his wife, and I don't remember her name in Deepwood Cemetery in Nevada, Missouri. Just happen to run on to this Reed while looking for someone else, but took a picture of grave stone so would have correct dates and names to see if by chance that were related to my Reed's. As soon as I get the film developed can give you dates and wife first name, if you think this is your Reed.

I am searching for any links to my family name of Reed. I have very limited information due to the fact my grandfather apparently was kind of a rogue and was disowned by his family. What I do have is that he was born in Cabool Missouri in 1908. He was one of nine children. He had a brother nicknamed I think Whinnie, who supposedly became a man of means in Joplin Mo. He apparently was married and had one child a girl, name unknown. Also a sister called Susie but her name could of been Susan?? My granfathers name was Willard R. Reed and he married Freda L. Nance in Nevada Missouri in 1927. They left Missouri and went to Idaho then went to Butte Montana. While in Missouri four boys were born; William, Robert my father, Henry and Norman. In Twin Falls Id. Ernest, Gerald who did a few months later, and Darold were born. They had a girl born in Butte Mt. but she died at birth. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - your guide to health and wellness http://health.yahoo.com
Betty, You may have just shed a much-needed light on my REED research. Of course, I'm just grasping for something concrete and have not checked this out yet. However, the JOHN REED that I'm researching is so elusive in that he came from "somewhere North" or "Maryland" as the stories go. He arrived in Louisiana during our colonial days and married Unity West, who was from North Carolina. That's about all I know. I do have their marriage record. The question remained: where did John originate and who were his ancestors? His son was Samuel (on my husband's direct line) and these names are recycled in the Reed family everywhere, it seems. What you posted brings the TATES into the picture and may very well be the link I need. You see the REEDS of our family and the TATES are both related and settled near one another in SW Louisiana. Perhaps, the Tates are my link to location. Did you run across Nathaniel or Genevieve Unity West in your research? Thanks for this posting. Try the TATE and REED message boards on Rootsweb for more. The Nov. 1985 Journal of the NC Gen. Society, contained the 1781 Tax List for Orange District (I think that would be Orange Co. NC but will double-check p.228). Orange Co. was formed in 1752 from Bladen, Granville & Johnston Counties; in 1771 Chatham Co. was split off from Orange; in 1770 Guilford Co. was formed from Rowan & Orange; and in 1881 Durham Co. was formed from Wake & Orange (Durham is just east of Orange today). 1781 Tax List page 73 #113 THOMAS, JESSE - £313 #114 REED, JNO. - £805 #098 TATE (WIDOW)--not far away from Jno. John Sheeler REED, JOHN to ELIZA TATE 5 March 1787, bond. James Tate (I think I recall that John Reed was bond for the marriage of James Tate) A search of Orange Co. archives for Read/Reed/Reid shows: WILLIAM REED - witness to will to James Watson 1776 - mentions daughter Helen Reed, wife of William Reed, and grandsons James Reed, Robert Reed, William Reed, Watson Reed and granddaughter ___Reed. WILLIAM REED - Court minutes 1758, property of Daniel Cain mentions "house where William Reed used to live." WILLIAM REED - 1761 - land sold by John Barbee and proved by WILLIAM REED ROBERT REED - 1762 - ROBERT REED sold land to James Hunter in Nov 1762 1779-95 - deed of sale from Joseph Collins proved by WILLIAM REED 1768 - Sale of land by Francis NASH of Hillsboro (et al) to William Johnston...Lewis to WILLIAM REED 8 June 1757 The Tate name and that of the Reed name appears in the JOHN STRAYHORN FAMILY CHRONICLE (New Hope Church)--no dates given Does anyone know about this Jno. Reed and Eliza Tate marriage in Orange Co., NC? I have tried to contact Tate researchers, but no responses so far from Orange Co Betty Pace
