Hello list members, This week so far, I have submitted to all of you the following: 1880 CNWColored Census of Oklahoma (partial) 1869 CNWest Census of Oklahoma (partial) 1902 Dawes- Freedmen (partial) 1906 Dawes- Freedmen Minors (partial) IMPORTANT NOTICE : These records are all from original documents. 1869 CNWest Census These Jim Hicks transcribed from photocopies of the original document. 1880 CNWColored Census These were transcribed by Barbara Benge from photocopies of the original. 1902 Dawes Freedmen These are OCR transcriptions scanned from a NARA index to the 1902 Dawes. Jim Hicks has worked a lot with the Cherokee by Blood transcriptions and says there are errors. 1906 Dawes Freedmen Minors Same as above. Now I suggest that any of you who are using these names in your family geneology, MUST and SHOULD refer to 3 books, that I know can be bought cheaply, for this FREEDMEN RESEARCH. Those books are: Cherokee Roots, Volume 1: Eastern Cherokee Rolls and VOL 2 also.( you can buy cheaply in a set), by Bob Blankenship A reader, East Texas, USA, April 9, 2001 This set is a MUST have for those tracing your Cherokee root This set contains the Official US Census Rolls of Cherokee Indians recorded between 1817-1924. Volume one covers those Cherokee living East of the Mississippi River, Volume 2 covers Cherokee who were living West of the Mississippi River. These same rolls are still used today in determining tribal... Index to the Cherokee Freedmen Enrollment Cards of the Dawes Commission 1901-1906 by Jo Ann Curls Page (Paperback - January 1995) I find Jo Ann's book to be a real asset to comparing the Freedmen Roll numbers and her book also gives the names of the parents, and the Freedmen Minors, as well as the Rejected Freedmen. After you have found your family member and compare to the books above, to make sure there is no mistake in the roll numbers, you may then want to do the following. Click here: GUION MILLER ROLL http://www.rootsweb.com/~cherokee/miller.html For the record: I am in no way affiliated with or do I know personnally the writers of the books, I have suggested you buy. I am merely telling you as a Freedmen researcher, the best way and cheapest way for you to verify your family Freedmen geneology. I would appreciate it if you do find any mistakes, that you contact me, so I can make corrections to the file I have. Bright Star Freedmen Project

Lydia Ann Reed married Rev. James Alvin Shepherd (James Alvin was the son of John C. & Rebecca Shepherd nee Fees) whose daughter was Rebecca Ella Shepherd who married Henry Stewart Jaquiss. We believe that Lydia Ann Reed's parents were John & Eliza Reed and that Lydia had a sister, Mahalia. This information is in regard to Mahalia. Note: Myron married Eva Pero! Margaret married W.O. Pero! We had Wm. Shepherd married to Minnie Paro. Wonder if we spelled it correctly or if there is a possibility that this is one family in New London, IA. Can't find either Paro or Pero in the 1850 census for Henry Co, IA. So who knows? The information supplied could match the census information included below since it is quite possible that Lovinia E. is Eliza and the census might have been taken before William was born. The person who left this message at Genealogy.com Genforum didn't leave an e-mail address so the only possible way to contact him is if he would answer a reply posting. Just recently I learned that some of my ancestors lived in Denver in the early 1900's. I was born and raised in Colorado, but none of us knew of these people. My parents and grandparents knew all our Reed relatives in Colorado when they were still living. In research in Cook County, Chicago, Illinois, I have learned that one of my ancestors, Isaac N. Reed, died in Chicago in 1905, and he was sent to Denver for burial in Fairmont Cemetery. Doing a little more research I also learned that one of his sons, Calvin Reed, was living there at that time, but died in 1906, a year after his father was buried in Fairmont Cemetery, and he was buried there as well. I know nothing at all about Calvin Reed, and not as much as I would like about his father, Isaac N. Reed. I anyone connects to these Reeds, I would really like to hear from you. Also, if any of you live in the Denver area, can you tell me if Fairmont Cemetery is still in use? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Doris Reed Forsyth
