    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. John Reed & Eliza Tate married 5 Mar. 1787, James Tate, bondsman - Orange Co. NC. I believe that James Tate was married in Orange Co. NC a little later, with a John Reed as bondsman. I am interested in contacting researchers who have knowledge of the John Reed/Reid who married Eliza/Elizabeth Tate in Orange Co. NC in 1787. The name spelling might have been Reed/Reid/Read. A son (Jesse Reid) was born in 1803, probably in Wake Co., NC. Here is what I know so far (from another researcher). Allied families seem to be Scoby, Nelson, Mitchell, Allen, Wood/Woods of Orange Co. NC. Elizabeth Tate was a daughter of George Tate and his wife Jennet (Scoby?). . Descendants of George Tate 1. GEORGE1 TATE was born c 1730 in Scotland, and died 1774 in Orange Co NC. He married JENNET c 1756. She was born c 1737, and died c 1786 in Orange Co NC. 3. I found the following Reeds in the 1930 Federal Census but have not been able to locate their whereabouts before or after this date. It is thought that William and Mayme may have moved to the Silver Cliff or Pueblo area of Colorado and that Mayme gave birth to another child by the name of Thelma. And I could not even find a town called Beck in Oklahoma. I am desperate to find this information for an older family member before she passes away. Can anyone point me in the right direction? If I knew where Beck was I could probably contact the local historical society. I did however find a county listed as Beckham. Thank you so much. Hello Jim I have set up a custom search engine on Olive Tree Genealogy to search ships coming from Ireland to N. America. This search engine searches multiple websites, not just OTG. You may want to take a look there and see what comes up. http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/searchirish.shtml You can also browse online lists of Irish ships at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/irish_index.shtml They are arranged by year, with the earliest being 1677 While search engines are great, it's always a good idea to browse the online lists in case a ship is missed, or a name is mispelled, or just spelled differently than you expect. Also see Irish to USA at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/irishtousa.shtml Good luck! 1. James Reed
    2. Doris Forsyth
    3. Hi, Recently some helpful people provided me with info that I hope will help me "climb" a wall of long standing. My gggg grandmother, Elizabeth Reed, died in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1822. Her son, David, whose wife was Anne Dyson, died in 1815, also in Belmont. These dates and places are the only info I have. Believe Elizabeth's husband was a James Reed, as her oldest son was named James. Her youngest son was named Adonijah Reed, born in Fayette County, PA in 1794. A possibility is that Elizabeth Reed was a daughter of Adonijah Peacock who died in 1777 in Burlington County, NJ, the result of gun powder exploding as he was drying it for General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Info from the Peacock family indicates that each of the children of Adonijah Peacock gave a son the name of Adonijah. Since we have not seen that given name in our Reed line previously, nor since, we are leaning to the fact that he was named for his grandfather, Adonijah Peacock. Adonijah Reed died in Cook County, Illinois, in 1863. The Chicago fire destroyed many Cook County records. At the time of Elizabeth Reed's death, legal papers were filed in Belmont County, but nothing was found naming her as the "widow of---". Since she was living in the home of her son, David, in early 1800's, it is possible that her husband died prior to that time. Elizabeth had a daughter named Sarah, who married John Fidler. As you can see, there is a large amount of information that is not documented. Any help, or suggestions, will be greatly appreciated. Doris Reed Forsyth

    3. I went to this web site and found that Guilford Co. NC was one of the few NC counties to have a database of marriage and death records. It is a little hard to search, however. However, a lot of other states are given. Betty Pace From: Richard Cottrell <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Date: Sat, 30 Nov 2002 22:21:07 -0600 Subject: [COTTRELL-L] Death Records Here is something I discovered and it is quite interesting. This web page: http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/deathrecords.html That web page has death records for a lot of states. I scrolled down and clicked on the: missouri state archives pre-1909 birth and death records That took me to the Missouri State Archive page: Then I entered the county I wanted to look up in the death records button in the lower right hand corner. I entered the county: Vernon I did not enter anyones name and just clicked search. What I got was everyone that died that was registered by the county clerk before 1909. Some of the death dates went back as far as 1883. It was quite interesting to know this could be done. Richard Cottrell [email protected]

    3. I haven't figured out how to work this site yet. It appears to be half on-line and half volunteer lookups. You may have to experiment, but it covers more than just marriages. 2. St. Claire Family
    3. I do not see any mention of anyone with the surname Nichols in "The History and Genealogy of the Reed Family", by W. H. Reed, 1929. This volume covers the descendants of Johann Philib Ried (b 1698), emigrant from Germany to PA in 1727. It covers a LOT of the Reed family originating in PA. Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System - National Park Service database under development http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ I found both of my Civil War soldiers listed here, including one in the 4th NC Senior Reserves at Salisbury, NC. It gives rank, unit, but not age or other identifying information. But it does give you the film number to find out more perhaps. Betty Pace
