    1. Charles Arthur Reed of Jefferson County, New York
    2. Letha Chunn-Mendivil
    3. Hello, Listers! I am seeking information about Charles Arthur Reed, b. abt.1824 in New York. He lived in LeRay, Jefferson County, NY, during the 1850 census with his wfe Ann B. Johnston, (b. abt. 1831 Canada) whom he married 27 Nov 1848. Also in the 1850 census, he is listed as living with his mother, Rebecca Reed, b. abt. 1889, Susan Reed, b. abt. 1824, Helen M. Reed, b. abt. 1843, and Elizabeth Reed, b. abt. 1845. Next door to this family is a Vincent Reed, b. abt. 1827, Louisa Reed, b. abt. 1829, and a baby, Charles A. Reed, b. 2 Feb 1850, 6 months old. This baby Charles A. Reed is, I believe, my gggrandfather. He married Lydia E. Hart, daughter of John Hart and Adelia Stephens, and lived in Black River, Jefferson County, NY, until about 1883, when they emigrated to Spink County, SD. Their children, also born in Jefferson County, were Bert Allen Reed, b. 6 July 1873, and Anna Reed, b. abt. 1879. My questions are as follows: Charles A. Reed #2 listed his father as Charles A. Reed #1. However, from the census data, it looks like Charles #2's REAL father was Vincent Reed and mother, Louisa ?. Does anyone have any information on anyone I've listed here? Because New York's records of vital statistics are so poor, I'm having a difficult time finding information on these people. ANY help will be appreciated! Sincerely, Letha Chunn-Mendivil San Diego, CA

    2. My maternal g-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Reed was b. 5/27/1828 in Claremont, Sullivan Co., NH, (apparently resided in Lowell, Mass. sometime prior to 1858) died 1/24/1913 Eldora, Hardin Co., IA. His brother, Benjamin Franklin Reed, was b. 11/9/1825 also in Claremont, died 11/18/1889 also in Hardin Co., IA. We believe their parents were John [b.1795/96, NH] & Martha (Alcott) [b.1796/97, NH] Reed, however, this is unconfirmed. I would appreciate any information you could give me on this Reed branch. Sincerely, Alma Ellsworth Hatfield [email protected]

    3. Hi, I haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I would repost my information in hopes someone may see something familiar. I am looking for the family of Lafayette W Reed, born about 1831 in Vt. He married Julia Tiffany in Santa Clara County California, and he was a teacher, died in Oakland Ca in 1890. They had children, Emma L, Eleanor (Nellie), Lafayette W Reed Jr, and another son Richard T Reed, who I believe was the son of Julia Tiffany and Ansel Fuller, Julia's first husband. She was born in Ct. After Lafayette's death it seems she married a Charles Button. Lafayette's parents were born in Ma, but I have no idea who they were, and can't find any birth record for him. I also have a deed of sale for some property Lafayette Sr. sold to Otis M Reed in Brattleboro Vt in the 1880's. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone? Thanks Barbara Reed Jensen

    3. My ggg grandfather, David Reed, died in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1815. His mother was an Elizabeth Reed. For quite a long time a cousin and I have researched these 2 Reeds, trying to establish what Elizabeth Reed's maiden name was and what became of her husband who we believe to have been a James Reed. Recently we've found evidence that Elizabeth may have been born Elizabeth Peacock, daughter of Adonijah Peacock, in Burlington County, New Jersey, who married a James Reed there in about 1775. Elizabeth Reed died in Belmont County in 1822. Elizabeth's oldest son was a James Reed, pointing to the possibility that her husband was also James Reed. David Reed named his oldest son James, also an indication that he was named for the paternal grandfather. We have no evidence of what happened to James Reed, since he did appear at the time of David's death or of Elizabeth's. One of Elizabeth's sons was named Adonijah, again pointing to the possibility that he was named for the maternal grandfather. Help, or suggestions would be appreciated. Doris Reed Forsyth

    1. Sherman Reed NY and Bloomfield Reed KY connection?
    2. Stephanie Lehman
    3. In the 1870 US Census for Alabama Township, Genesee Co, NY there is a Sherman Reed age 40 with his family, Mary, Elmer and Boren?. They live on a farm and have listed with them a few farm hands and servants. One servant is Fred Lehman age 19 from Germany. I am trying to find out more about Fred and Sherman. My GGGrandfather is Fred Lehman (I am not certain if this is the correct one though). Oddly, when Fred married in 1880, his wife's name was Luretta Reed! However I have found her father's name as Bloomfied. Does anyone know if there may be a connection between Sherman and Bloomfield? Thanks
