Information I have on William Riley Reed are that he was born in 1856 in Ohio and died in Moundville Twp. Vernon County, Nevada MO. 1932. His wife Mary Ellen Hayward was born in 1865 in Il. and died in Moundville Twp,1955, in Nevada Mo.They are buried in Moore Cemetary, Center Twp, Nevada Mo. From the census of 1930 census for Moundville Twp, Vernon Co. nevada it shows that Willaim Riley was 73 and his wife Mary E. was 66, which shows a difference of age of at least seven years. but when asked the age of first marriage it says that William was 24 and Mary E. as 19. This information leads me to beleive that William Riley Reed was married prior to Mary Ellen Hayward. So I am thinking William married abt 1880, date and place unknown and then he married Mary Ellen abt 1884, date and place unknown. It is not known when Geneva Drucilla Reed was born but Winnie Walter Reed was born in Butler Missouri in Feb. 1887. There are seven other children born of this marriage but only two dates and places are known. One was Nellie Lettie Reed b. Jan.14,1895 in Pittsburg, Kansas. And Willard Richard Reed b. Feb. 4, 1908 in Cabool Mo. This information shows that they moved around alot and it looks like from where most of them were in 1978 and where they married, they were in Missouri, Kansas and possiably Oklahoma. Looking for James Caldwell Reed & his wife Eunice Green Brandon Reed's cemetery. James was from Gwinnett Co. GA and Eunice was from Halifax Co. VA. They married in Jackson Co. GA and moved to St. Clair Co. AL in 1834. They purchased land near the Coosa River. They had a son named Samuel buried in Ragland, AL and a son named George Thomas buried in Bethel (Calhoun Co.) AL.

Rebecca Reed who was born in VT about 1811/13 whose parents were born in RI could be of the Jonathan Read family of Smithfield RI. Jonathan moved from Salem MA to Smithfield in 1745 and had a large family. Many of his family moved to upstate NY, but some had a short stay in VT. My study of the family does not go far enough to determine if Rebecca belongs. Jonathan was the grandson of Thomas Read of Salem. Five generations of the family surnamed Read or Reed will be covered in The Read Family of Salem Massachusetts targeted for publication about two years from now.
