    1. [REED] REED
    2. I've been reading quite a bit of mail about John REED and others so I thought I would throw my name out to see if it rings a bell of anyone. This has been a dead-end for me for some times. My name is Al(vin) Bert Reed. My fathers name was Sidney Ray Reed, was born in Colorado. His father was named Isaac Bonam Reed or Bonam Isaac Reed. Whichever he was born in Ohio. His wife was named Emma Sayers, Born in Colorado. Obtained Marriage Certificate from Ouray Colorado showing they were married on 24th of December 1896. REED's are quite common but the key names are Bonam, Isaac and Sidney. My father was born on Sept 4, 1982, 1894 or 1897. I have papers that show all of these dates. Help will be appreciated. Al Reed

    2. Jeanette I just don't know now. I am going to get more into Silver Billy. James Issacs father was supposed to have been born in Talladega but sometime information can be way off. Most all of my Reed bunch stayed in and around GArdendale. Fultondale, and Roebuck/Huffman area. And that is where the Reed Cem. is. I have not been there but plan to go. My Reeds used both spellings Reed/Reid and that makes it even harder. My Dad, sister and son and all of their families are still in Jefferson Co. I have been in Montgomery for about 10 yrs. There are Reeds in Walkers Chapel Cem. Fultondale Al. These are mostly mine. I have been working on other lines and had put the Reeds on hold for a while but started digging out stuff last night. I also have a couple of books I plan to check tonight. Linda > Have an Issac Reed, b. ca 1824 to William "Silver Billy" Reed, have no other > information. 2. Hi Linda Jeanette I haven't connected ith Silver Billy(yet) I have been working on other lines. My g grandfather was James Issac Reed b. 1862 Talladega Al. d. 1937 Jefferson Co. buried Walkers Chapel Cem Fultondale. On James death cert it only has J. Reed as Father. My garndfather was Fred James Reed b. Sayreton Al. 1887. He had 9 brothers and sisters so we are spread out. And I think JAmes Issac had a buch of siblings or at least half brothers and sisiters. His father was supposed to have died when he was young and he left home because he didn't get along with his step father but I do not know the stepfathers name. Well anyway do you recognize any of this. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. 3. Hi Bonnie, Handed down:William "Silver Billy Reed, back in early 1800 owned land in what is now Jefferson County, Alabama. Most of the property was gained through the power of his shining "cartwheels and a shrewd mind. In all his financial dealings, the colorful and legendary Mr. Reed insisted on using silver of which he seemed to have an abundance. Old timers used to tell the story of Billy and his kegs of silver dollars and how he would drive a wagon to public land sales with the kegs aglow with treasures. Some people said sand was under a thin layer of silver dollar, but no one seemed to have ever proved this contention. The Weekly Iron Age (Published in Birmingham (Elyton) Alabama.) Sketches Dated 22 July 1886 Another old pioneer was William Reed, familiarly called "Silver Billie" because he was never known to buy any article on credit, but invariably paid cash on the spot, and always in the same currency, silver coin. Thanks for asking, Jeanette

    2. HI Jeanette I have a little bit of information I will get it together and send it to you. There does seem to be another brother for Silver Billy. Robert that married Mary Cobb. I have a few books to look through. Inthe Reed cem there is a large marker that says In Memory of Pioneer Settler William Reed and Family. His fathers marker is a large stone with the name John Reed and 1736 1820 cut into it. 3. Peg I would be interested in comparing notes and in John Henry's descendants. Did your mother find that John Henry had a brother named David or Davis (I've seen it both ways) married to Patsey Ellis in 1821. David (Davis) and Patsey are my ggg grandparents. Their son Benjamin (Bennett) is my gg grandfather. I also recently found a sister Sarah Sally b 1798 who married a Benjamin Baston 12/20/1820. I have found in a couple of places that Benjamin Reed married Eleanor Yocum in Mercer County Kentucky in 1792. Wonder if Benjamin could have been Charles Benjamin or Benjamin Charles? My Henry Reed was born in 1799 in Garrard County and died in 1881. I think he is buried in the Highland Manor Cemetery in Mercer or Lincoln County Kentucky Did your mother find any further info regarding Henry's father, such as his parents or siblings or where he was born? I am leaving for Nova Scotia on Friday and will be gone for 2 weeks. Maybe we can share information when I return.
