One friend posted Elias>Isaac Reed's line to OHCLERMO-L. A 2nd friend lived where the 1870 Clermont Co,Ohio shows Hillis Reed living, just east 2-3 blocks from the family cemetary where Isaac Reed's widow was buried in 1850. He knows an earlier house burnt in the 1920's on his farm-a house Reed Little told him had a spring in the basement for cooling things. I'm talking a farm on the south side of Clover Creek, and north of Macedonia Rd,Tate township,n Bethel,Clermont Co,Ohio ,where Isaac Reed got a deed 1811,but likely lived earlier. I did an computer search of the 2 Isaac Reed files for Hillis. No luck. I looked in the DAR cemetary book 's Reed cemetary, and 2 Bethel cemetaries for Hillis Reed-no luck. [but they stop at 1900 burials].Finally,in the 1850-75 Clermont Co Marriages,I found Hills W Reeds,23 m Anna S Crouch 21 onMarch 29,1865. That makes Hillis likely too young to answer my 2nd friend's question-"Who built my old barn?" I suppose it was Hillis' father,or grandfather. The beams are broad-axed,and wooden pegged together. And it has a threshing floor. My Dad,1898-2000 grew up across Clover Creek from John Reed's place, and walked past it to Republican 1 room school 7 years. My great uncle writes of running a trapline going and coming from school, across the old Reed farms. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Jonathan Read of Salem MA probably married Ann Hanson of Dover NH about 1724. Eleven children have been identified through probate records. Ann died about 1741 and Jonathan married Sarah Kempton in 1744 and moved to Smithfield RI in 1745. Need documented records of the marriage of Jonathan and Ann and the births or baptisms of their children. They were probably Quakers but do not appear in the Salem or Dove Quaker records. Needed for a forthcoming book, The Read Family of Salem Massachusetts. Richard H. Benson

I'm also interested in Reed family. My Grgrgrandmother was Electa Reed born 1800 in Ct. She married a Huston McMillan and was living in Saratoga Spgs NY in 1850 census. So I would guess there were other Reed's in that area or maybe Warren Co NY. If you find anything let me know and I'll do the same. M.E. My maternal great-grandfather's paternal grandfather has a beautiful obit, a lovely little marriage bond listing (John Ball listed as surety), clearly written Interment card but no parents listed anywhere. To make matters more difficult his name is similar to another in Norfolk in the same timeframe - he is Joshua David, the other is Joshua Davis both surname REED no discernible connection. I have located him, a hatter, in the 1850 Census (last name spelled Read) with wife MaryAnn, mother-in-law Elizabeth Balls (b 1796), another Jas R Crumpler age 19 and children Laura A (age 7), Lloyd T (age 6), Pauline A (4) and Florence (2); in 1870 he is age 49 with wife Mary, age 45, children: Laura, Kate, Alma, Horace, and Pacid (1870 Census, page 62, 1st ward, City of Norfolk). Laura was 24 in the 1870 census and what is odd in the value of real estate it shows amounts for all the children. No other family shows any amounts in that column for the children; in 1880 Census they are with children, Placid (18) and Horace (22), my great-great grandfather, his son Lloyd Thomas Reed having already left the home and married (and living nearby). Placid later married Siefert. I don't know that Horace ever married. They are all buried in Elmwood, Norfolk. What suggestions might you have where I might find some more info? Is there a Will listing that (I know I'm dreaming) that might be indexed, say for his father with his name there. I have seriously researched this fellow for more years than I care to say. Would anyone have any idea where I might go to make some connection, find some parents, etc? I have it suggested to search for deed transactions and church records although I am a bit stumped on those two (esp deeds). Katie. It is unusual for the children to have values of real estate listed. Perhaps a grandparent died and left them property in a will. If so, there would be probate records. When I check probate records I check for all probates for that surname. It might explain why you can't find parents. You need to check deeds as well. There are both grantor (seller) and grantee (buyer) indexes. Look both places. Sometimes relatives are witnesses. When you find the deeds check the legal descriptions. Sometimes relatives are adjoining landowners. One of the advantages of deeds in Virginia (and most of the east) is they usually have metes and bounds discriptions which refer to adjoining landowners. I assume Joshua David and Joshua Davis have wives with different names so you can tell them apart. Make sure Davis is not a spelling error. Have you found the name Joshua Davis in at least two different records? Good luck. ______________________________ > ATTACHMENT part 4 message/rfc822 Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 09:27:13 -0700 From: "Jensen" To: [email protected] Subject: [REED] Joshua Davis Hi, I had the same problem with the Davis name.
