Dear Bonnie/Barb and all who may be experiencing problems with FTM, I recently upgraded from FTM 3.0 to FTM 8.0 and did so without the problems you are describing. FTM must have solved the 'data garbling' problem in version 8.0 that just came out.. Check with FTM's WWW site to see if they have had complaints and what they recommend. It sounds like it is THEIR program's problem. I found the following in their "Help File" for version 8.0 "Once you have merged the duplicate sources, navigate to www.FamilyTreeMaker.com/support and look for more information by entering keyword "merging" in the Technical Support Knowledge Base search window. Family Tree Maker Version 8.0 for Windows© 95/98" I didn't copy the whole help message but it did say you must have ver 4.4 or later to merge duplicate sources. This 'technical support knowledge base (read computer assisted technical support) may help you solve other problems you are having.. hope so..
