    1. Re: [REAVIS] Edward Reavis I
    2. Note that even Isham-3, s/o Edw-2 also spelled his name frequently, and is frequently found spelled, Revis; even in the Tory document frm Rutherford County Court, NC., as was George-3..think that was 1782 (it is on the angel fire research site) In Ky most of the names in early records ca1798-1800 i.e. fam of Isham were spelled REVIS (1799 tax list in Warren Co Ky). There does seem to be a consistent spelling of the name in different time periods, i.e. Va Rivis/Revis, NC 1747- 70 Reaves/Reavis, frm 1772 anything goes, different people for different reasons chg'd spelling of their names, one not to long ago told me his family changed spelling of name Reavis to Revis, because of a "blacksheep" in the family; we know that some changed spelling because did not want to be identified with "the Baron"...on and on...The predominant spelling of the name by descendants of Edward-1 are Revis and Reavis. So again not sure that the spelling seems to make a difference, just so it sounded like "crevice/revice" :-) Have found the name spelled so many ways, that in researching this family have to consider all Revice, Reviss, Re v v is; Rewis, Reaves, Reves....etc. Have to ck ea out to determine if ours or not. *B
