Lewis Reavis considered founder of City of Henderson. Town was going to be named Reavisville, not Lewis requested to be named in honor of his late judge friend, Leonard Henderson. Has picture of Lewis Reavis home. Fifth printing 1989 and available from Vance County Historical Society. Vance County was formed in 1881 from Granville County, the part that had a large population of Blacks, who were voting Republican. The Democrats sacraficed Vance (with Blacks) to gain white votes in Granville and Franklin. Zeb Vance was the Democratic Governor at the time. David
