Curious that he would be born in Va, if REAVIS in 1806, unless perhaps this is REAVES; but next door to him is William Harold REVIS and Elizabeth Howell with their son James M. age1. Wm Harold was son of William Whitfield. Something interesting here. Need to ck 1840 and 1860 Granville Census, to see if John P or sons are still there! *B

Machpelah Cemetery..Lexington Mo REAVIS, Luther Henry 1869-1945 "Poppy" SNIDER, Alice Reavis 1891-1971 "Big Mommy" She remarried after Luther died, George Riley Snider. He quite possibly could have been married prior to Alice. There is a marriage in Lafayette Co MO of Henry Reavis m/Katie Thomas Dec 1882 His father is believed to have been Luther Henry or Henry Luther and mother Malissa True. For whatever reason, Luther Henry was raised by an Uncle, but do not know name. The Uncle lived in Ray co Mo. Luther was a coal miner. *Barb
Luther Henry married Alice Kathryn Anderson Dec 1906 chn. Forest Francis William Ralph Betty This is an old search, still have not been able to connect him to the mainline! Any data? *Barb
1880 Census Buncombe Co ...Shephards...NO Benjamin (of course the Benjamin trying to locate that took in Milton Louis,Revis, could have been in Madison Co, and then maybe the Uncle Benjamin was not Shepherd but someone else) > At Flat Creek # 11, Buncombe Co. > Shephard, Henry 54 NC, NC, NC, Fields 15, Robert 12, Lottie 10, Sarah Nix 23 > serv., John 1, Lucian Garison 20 lab. > > Shephard, Alfred 21 NC, NC, NC, Polly M, 21, Udorah 2 > > Shepard, Calvin 25, NC, NC, NC Harriet 25 There were also three black families in Ashville Twn Possible a John Shephard on 1820 Buncombe Co census, had 4 daughters b1810-1820..could be father of Fanny Shepherd who married Wm N Revis ca1840-42 (if she was not indeed Blackwell). One of his daughters Elizabeth married Chandler. On 1800 only one Shephard: Thomas who had 5 males and 3 females in his household. He may have been father of John above (speculation) *B
Following excerpts frm "A Memorial and Biographical of Johnson and Hill Counties, Tx" pub by The Lewis Pub Co 1882 pp 662-3 sent by Freddy Sue..since this is her line (was sent to her by Earlene..now to you) "William Andrew Reavis frm firm of Reavis and Young, real estate dealers was born in Lincoln Co Tn in 1836, the 2nd of 8 children of W.A. Reavis born in NC in 1807. He was a physician and Minister of the Gospel and practiced in Alabama and Texas. His brothers and sisters are Mrs. W. B. Johnson (Julia Chipley Reavis) Eliz , wife of G.C. Orenbaum..... William Reavis received common school education. At age 17 he farmed, when 20 years old was salesman with A.S. Hayter of Palestine, Anderson County, Texas for 6 years. He went into business for himself at Ruters- ville, Leon County until 1865 and then came to Hillsboro and opened an general merchandise store...Mr. Wm Reavis had a 260 acre farm in pre- cinct #2 (Hill County) and other real estate in Hillsboro, plus was a stock- holder in Hillsboro Mills. In 1867 he married Miss. Dora Cats(Cato) daughter of L.W. Cats (Cato) native of Mississippi who came to Hill county in 1850 and was County Judge before the war............. William and Dora had 5 children, Harry, Rex, Ada and Kate. William was an Elder in the old-school Presbyterian Church, member of the Masonic Order ........." *B

Lynne found and sent a nice article about Pioneer of Cooper Co Mo re Jones/Reavis/French/Hunt families..written by a Helen Reavis Shroat Will put a bit of it here, interesting. "A wedding of some social significance in Cooper County (Mo) was held in this house on New Year's eve of 1858. A local girl with the romantic name of Adelia Delora French, a daughter of J. R. French married Wyan Nelson, son of Thomas Withers Nelson of Boonville. It was a wild and stormy night and few guests frm Booneville braved the icy, rutted roads. Nevertheless, the bride wore white satin and a veil; the ceremoney, read by a Rev. Davis, was imbued with all the dignity and graciousness of the times."....... "John L. and Polly George Jone's daughter, Sallie, had married Gilbert French, who was a brother of Adelia Delora....." 9Martha J was d/o Andrew Ashley and Shoes, s/o Dav-3, Jas-20 Also mentioned in the article was Lewis D. Reavis, who furnished material, and with voluntary help, built the church....he married Mary Hunt on June 23, 1836, a daughter of William and Nancy Jones Hunt.. (Lewis D (David) was s/o Joseph-3 & Kelley, s/o David/3, James-2) Thanks, Lynne. *B
Have an Ora Reavis b September 1877 d Jan 1954 (this fits her age 2 yrs on 1880 census) married Hardy Washington Wise b Mar 1875 d July 1919 Suggests, this is prob d/o Thomas H. Revis 1842-1921 Barb
Couple more possibilities....... First had another contact frm that family, and he suggests that perhaps William N's wife was Blackwell not Shepherd (that would acct for the prob we are having doc marr for Wm N and Fanney Shepherd) and Blackwells were in Buncombe co by then and earlier. Second, he also lists more chn than we have for Thomas and Mary Hookes (possibly Hooker?) ie, Charlie, Etta, Dora, John, Joe, Henry, Jeter, and Thomas We have frm his first marr William, Catherine, Milton Lewis frm 2d marr to Mary Ann Hookes/Hooker Leonidus/James, R. Harrison, Fanny, Kenneth Hicks, Arry and Minney lst one born 1879 Now Mary Ann was only 17 when married Thomas Revis in Aug 1868, thus the last census rec we have for them and their children is the 1880 census...she was 27, and would still have been of child bearing years thru ca1905...thus most likely more children, if she did not die, and he did not remarry. So now for the 1900 census, thought I had it, but not. Probably will find them in Madison co (understand there are 3 or 4 there)since that is where he died in 1921. *Barb

Caroline Dona Ervin Joseph C/S m/SissyChandler Myra John in the 1860 Hogback Twp, Transylvania Co NC, could quite possibly be father of Jerry; so we need to locate an 1850 census with Jerry in his household (if not moved out by then..could be SC) Lynne has had a great deal of input in this data, and we welcome any other data to complete marriages and children/families. This data not yet all confirmed and documented, so beware, and HELP. *Barb
REVIS, Jerry Harriet John W. 12 Hughey 12 Caroline 11 Ervin 8 Martha J. 7 Catherine 3 Ruben L. 2 My but they had a batch of kids! *Barb
The Peter on that census, no doubt was Peter and Delpha, s/o Jerry Revis Also assuming the first son Joseph died, guess the marriage to Sissy Chandler probably is to the second Joseph b1878. As I said much more research needed on this family. *B
Revis, Jerry b 1833 67 Harriet b1836 wife Myra 1878 dau Joseph C. 1878 son Hattie 5 g'dau Since he had a son Joseph H. bca1857 on the 1860 census, one would think he must have died, since he has another son Joseph C (or S) b1878 on the 1900 census. ?? There is also a Revis, Peter b 1874 another household and wife Do??? This data listed with qualification, census was very difficult to transcribe! *B
