Barb, I live in Maryland and have access to all of our local libraries and would be happy to take a look. I'm off work this Friday and will pop over there for a glance! One place it looked liked Reavis. Guess I was trying too hard to divine. At least our Elizabeth's good name is now redeemed. David
and Jesse Brassfield, sorry abt that! Didn't read my notes right. He was born 180? Wake Co NC, and was married Oct 1830 in Surry County, he died Mary 1885 Dunlap, Peoria, Illinois. Oh well one search less. :-) &Barb
Rebecca Gordon b 1809. Both died in Peoria co Illinois..he in 1886 and she in 1882. I have been unable to glean any data frm the net, in that area on them, i.e census, etc. He cannot be, but sure would fit, Jonathon, Jr b 1806, s/o Jona- thon-4, (s/o David-3, James-2); who married Mary Leesville; because it is my understanding his father died in Rutherford Co NC just prior to the whole family migrating to Missouri, tis said he helped support his sisters, and never married. Will have to reck this data. Clues anyone? *Barb
"The Maryland Gentry & Social Mobility 1637-1676" William Reavis If someone gets to a library, try to find out what this is about! Believe it is prob William and Mary Quarterly Unless article written by a William Reavis, we did not have one there that early, that I know of :-) *Barb

I have re-examined the Bastard Bond executed by supposedly Elizabeth Reavis and Austin Harris, which I found in NC State Archieves and submitted to list previously. Barb has a copy posted on her site. I have been bothered that I can not find record of the child anywhere. I have found one reference to a "Austin Harris" in a court reference in Granville County. Elizabeth later married and had a large family. I now believe a "recount" is in order, and an apology is due to our beloved ancestor Elizabeth Reavis. Upon examining the bond more closely, I believe the name of the individual on the bond is Elizabeth Reames, not Reavis. Let's recount. David Reavis
Line of Edward-2 Frm Hx of Warrick, Spencer and Perry counties, Ind Luce Twp by Goodspeed Bros adn Co pub 1885 "William J. Reavis, a physician at Richland City, is a native of Gibson County, Ins. and was born September 7, 1853, and is the eldest of his parents' six children. The father and mother were James R. After this he taught school for six years, and in 1876 began reading medicine in the office of Drs. Scales and Tyner, at Boonville. Found this on a site "Ancestors of Robert Kenneth Kirby" on the net... Joseph Tison Hampton b Jan 1833 Grayson co Va (1st Lt Confed 8 Cav. Grayson Co Va) m/1855 Ashe Co NC Florence Higgins "Joe kept a Jack (a male donkey, which when crossed with a female horse produces a male), for breeding purposes) I have heard many versions of the following incident, but chose the one given me by Hurley H. Hampton, .........Somebody cut Uncle Joe's Jakcs" ears off one night...don't remember whether the whole ears or just part. Uncle Joe and JOHN REAVIS had some differences, I don't know what, and John lived just down the road frm here. Uncle Joe heard that John Reavis had hired a man named Wilcox to come in at night and cut the Jack's ears off, so when he was up in Oldtown and Uncle Joe was drinking a little...my father (Charles Augustus Hamp- ton) and Guy, Joe's boy, was right there. MyDaddy was just 17 years old. Joe ran across Wilcox and accused him of cutting off his Jack's ears, but Wilcox denied it. Joe knocked Wilcox down and then ran across another Wilcox and knocked him down. About that time, a gun fired .. Reavis shot him three times. Joe is buried on his homeplace east of Baywood. Joe's tombstone reads J.T. Hampton. Born Jan 17, 1833 Shot and Killed May 28, 1874. The following inscription is on his stone: I had sooner fill a soldiers grave that ike a coward hide and bring disgrace uipon the ones who are my only pride." Now, wonder who this JOHN REAVIS was, would seem to be John-4, s/o Samuel-3, s/o John-2. Does anyone know? *B
Dinner in oven, just time for a quick check of emails. One new item, Andrew William Reavis, s/o Solomon-4, David-3; married first Aug 12 1847 Elizabeth Cobb, and on Nov 3, 1869 Andrew married her sister Lockie Cobb. Both marr in Franklin Co Tn. So now we have an approximate dod for Elizabeth between birth of last child 1860 and marriage of AW in 1869. Andrew died in 1879. *Barb
Barb, Could this have been Harriet Reavis' father. She was born in Gibson County in 1819 and married James Hopkins. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 22, 2000 7:34 PM Subject: [REAVIS] Francisco, Gibson Co Indiana > >From Clarion Princeton Daily, Gibson Co Ind Newspaper > History of Gibson Co Ind > > "William Reavis and his wife in 1817 settled near what is now > Francisco after a tedious trip on pack horses from North Caro- > lina. Since this was likely not first-hand info :-)..and depends on how you read it I guess; he married in Warren Co Ky1806 and is on the 1810 census there, and married 2d 1814 in Indiana; so guess the 1817 trip off by a few years, or was referring to trip frm KY :-) *B

If you remember, the best clue for her parents, was that Daniel had a son Bedford, and she named a son Bedford, no doubt for her brother. *B
